    9. The Lemp Mansion
In St. Louis Missouri lies what many dub one of the most haunted places in the world. And it's not labeled that due to its "potential hauntings", but rather the tragic history that took place within the place that gives it a certain haunted feeling.
    8. Winchester Mystery House
William Wirt Winchester made the Winchester rifle. It was a gun so powerful and accurate that it was said to have helped tame the Wild West. Really, it was a truly amazing weapon, as you can tell. What's more, the gun is still revered to this day, as is the name Winchester. The success of the gun helped him become a magnate, accruing lots of money for every single gun that he sold.
    7. The Villisca Axe Murder House
Sometimes a haunted house is considered to be truly haunted because the "spirits" of those who reside within the house haven't been "put to rest" or "found peace".
That would be an accurate assessment for The Villisca Axe Murder House in Villisca, Iowa.
The reason for this is that on June 10th, 1912, Josiah and Sarah Moore along with their kids and some of their children’s friends that were staying in that house that night...all died via bludgeoning. That alone makes it a truly horrifying thing. However, the real dreadful element is that the murder is still a mystery. No person was charged or jailed for the event.
    6. Eastern State Penitentiary
Located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the Eastern State Penitentiary was built in 1829, and at one time, it was one of the famous prisons in the world. This in part was because legendary criminals like Al Capone once had cells within the establishment.
One of the reasons that Eastern State Penitentiary was so feared by inmates was because of the numerous rules they had to follow. They were all told not to talk to one another, and technically, they were all in solitary confinement. Transporting them even required a bag that would be put over their heads so that they couldn't see or do anything unexpected or violent. That worked for a long time until 1913 hit and the overcrowding of the prison led to its downfall.
    5. Jean Harlow House
In Los Angeles you'll find a lot of great places to look at, and a lot of stories to tell of the stars that lived there in decades past. But few have the haunted "presence" of Jean Harlow's house. She was an actress who had an infamously abusive husband Paul Bern. But in 1932, everything changed when Paul suddenly and shockingly went in front of a mirror and shot himself in the head.
    4. The LaLaurie Mansion
New Orleans is a city that honestly revels in its "haunted" nature. Even glorifies it in certain aspects for both its culture...and its tourism. The city is said to be full of haunted places, one of which is The LaLaurie Mansion.
    3. Hotel Monte Vista
You've no doubt heard of various haunted hotels in history, including the hotels that were the inspiration for the "Tower Of Terror" in Disney World and the Bates Motel, dramatized in the movie Psycho where a certain killer resided. But in reality, there are indeed many haunted hotels like the Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, Arizona.
    2. Ancient Ram Inn
The Ancient Ram Inn is widely believed to be one of the most haunted places in the world by a very large margin. It was built in 1145, and from the start of its life many odd and creepy things have happened there. Some people even refuse to house there due to the events they "know" happened there.
Some feel the place was built on a Pagan burial ground where sacrifices occurred, one that is 5000 years old. Others think that because the Inn was built on two Ley Lines that it invoked the wrath of some deity or spirit. But obviously none of that has been proven to be the cause of the things that have been reported to happen there.
    1. Villa De Vecchi
Villa De Vecchi, also known as the "Red House" was a triple-decker mansion that was built in about the 1850's, and it was built by a Count of all things, Felic De Vecchi.
It wasn't just a mansion though, it was a summer home. The Villa had plumbing, heat, a fountain on the grounds, and many items that would be considered luxury at the time of its construction. But as you would guess, despite everything good within the place, bad was bound to follow.
