In January 2015 musicians and listeners converged upon Stuttgart’s Theaterhaus for two consecutive nights to celebrate the 75th birthday of Eberhard Weber. The concerts centered around a specially commissioned 35-minute suite by Pat Metheny, with whom Weber had played and recorded back in the 1970s. Featuring Metheny, the SWR Big Band conducted by Helge Sunde, Gary Burton, bassist Scott Colley and Danny Gottlieb on drums, the composition was arranged around recordings of solos by Weber. Other performers during the two nights playing selections from Weber’s vast body of work were Weber’s longtime companions Jan Garbarek, Paul McCandless, and arranger Michael Gibbs, all drawing ovations from the packed house.
“A truly special event, this.” Michael Tucker, Jazz Journal.

I add my voice to the many. Thank you, Eberhard, more than I can say, for giving me music that has touched me so deeply, beyond any words, for all these years. Thank you, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Jan Garbarek, and everyone, for your own music - and your homage to our friend, and today - maestro - Eberhard. Your dedication and generosity that made this endeavor possible shows that music is still the light of the world and makes me feel that there is still hope humankind. God bless you all.

I was moved to tears upon hearing just 2 minutes of this Music. I don't know why but from the second the first note came from the horn the emotions just welled up and let go. I have never been moved by a piece of Music that fast or that deeply before. Pat Metheny was playing with Jaco Again in My Mind.I still cannot stop the tears. Thank you.

Beautiful, touching... Thank you everyone involved for making this hommage possible. Eberhard Weber is definitely one of the most inspiring and influencial artists. And Pat Metheny´s part is a wonderful gesture of friendship.

Most unfortunate that PM's guitar is way down in the mix. Any other guitarist would pitch a fit if they knew about it. But the whole thing is Pat's brain anyway. What a giant, what a brilliant composer, what amazingly beautifully music over a long output. His music is on Muzak, and some of it almost unlistenable in it's overwhelming harmonic complexity. No other composer can say that.
