    Hi Guys, Just wanted to say thanks again. My double hip replacement was 15 march. Today I passed my
    flight test. And I am returning to work flying helicopters. At 58 my career has been extended. And I can't
    say enough about the wonderful care I received out here in Kamloops. Canada.

    Hey Docs, so I chose to fly home from Vancouver by Helijet. I had spoke to them a few times prior to booking the flight. The staff were very accommodating, they assisted by lifting my leg and getting it into a comfortable position under the seat in front of me. 😃👍🏻 20 min flight. It is not at a high altitude compared to commercial flights. My knee did swell quite a bit but I was home with knee elevated and cryo cuff within the hour of leaving Vancouver. Happy I chose a quick way home. 5 days post op full knee replacement. Love your videos keep them coming 🤓

    You forgot to mention how painful it is to keep your post op knee partially bent under the seat in front of you, for very long. Car travel, especially back seat, can be terrible as well in first 3 months, and on planes the stewards and other passengers don't appreciate a leg in the aisle! Whenever you travel after knee replacement you need a bulkhead seat for sure, for lots of room to stretch it out, or first class seat, or a private jet! Thx Doctors, for your ongoing very informative, helpful videos.

    I'm facing total knee replacement after trying everything else including stem cell injections in both knees. As I explore the surgery options, how about a video explaining all the new surgical techniques such as robotics, Visionare Patient Matching Technology, smaller incisions, etc?

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Jay G. We are working on videos addressing these topics. In general, the technology is all based off the same principle of total knee replacement. The thoughts behind robotics and patient matching technology is to simply perfect the operation. We use computer navigation which has been shown to improve radiographic alignment after surgery. The thought behind robots is to improve the accuracy of the cuts in hopes of improving the long term function. Time will tell. Thanks for watching.

    Hey there Docs! Me again. 😀 Needed this video just about now! Planning on flying next week for about 3 hours. I'm just at about three months post op. However my knee is still swelling and I'm having to keep applying ice. Luckily I'm flying first class so I will have more leg room but now I'm worrying about DVT. Follow up with my surgeon this week but maybe I should postpone even if he says go. I'm still using a cane to walk. What do you think? Thanks!

    My husband had an accident on an overseas trip which lead to extending the trip for recovery( he went to see his mother that had just finished chemo). He had to have tibial surgery about 2 plates and 10 screws, he is 3 weeks post op and had been on blood thinners, just wondering how high are the risks him coming back 5 weeks post op it’s a 24 hour flight, it’s hard to communicate properly with the doctors from macedonia so your advice will help a lot thanks

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  Před rokem

      Hi Semjan sorry to hear this. So there is risk but if he stays on the blood thinners that will drastically reduce the main risk which is a blood clot. Best of luck

    • @TalkingWithDocs
      @TalkingWithDocs  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi FAB ULOUS. So a short flight can probably be tolerated. Best to discuss with your surgeon however the risk of a DVT or swelling that is severe would be low. Thanks for watching!

    A quick side question- I am flying to Ireland seven and a half months after breaking both my ankles (clean fibula break on the left and avulsion fracture on the right) . I did not require surgery; I am recovering without incident and am no longer under active doctor care. I do not take any medication or have any other health problems. Would the aspirin regime that you mentioned in your video be of any use to me? I do plan to get up once or twice during the flight to walk around. Should I expect to have an issue with my ankles during the flight, such as swelling, etc. or has enough time passed since the trauma? Thanks for continuing to inform patients of potential pitfalls!
