Finally!!! I been waiting for this they should just make the Metro card an actual card that you can top up and tap, like the Oyster card
Yup. Been saying this. Taking your credit card out or even your phone can be a bit risky with all the psychos running around.

NYC needs to fix the fare capping problem for tourists

@@TheMeganDaily right now if you use OMNY starting on a Monday, you aren't charged anymore once you pass 12 trips in a week, or $33, the same amount as a 7 day unlimited metro card. That's great for locals that are commuting , but if you are a tourist that Flys into town on a Thursday and stays 7 days, it's going to cost you $33 for the first 4 days, and then the clock will reset and start charging you again for the rest of your trip. Until they fix that, tourists are still much better off sticking with the 7 day unlimited metro card. (unless they happen to be arriving on a Monday and leaving on a Sunday)

@@Jasiih7 you can still get a 7 day metro card, or you can use the OMNY. going Saturday - Saturday means you only have one day that would not be covered by either the OMNY fare capping plan or the 7 day metro card. It's not as bad as if you were going Wednesday-Wednesday

All honest people who normally pay and don't know how to, will appreciate your video. Those fare-beaters are just taking advantage of the system and any other thing that require accountability. God warns us to give to Cesar what's Cesar's. And we're guessing they don't know any better. Perhaps they learned from their parents and will continue to teach their next generation. It's part of their DNA.

Interesting and fun for daily commuting for workers. In my country still use RFID device so still using physical only to tap (prepaid bank card)

Hello! NO ONE on CZcams explains the following: Do you pay before or after you ride the train? Do you do this before, or after you get off the subway. NOBODY explains it.
Tap in when you enter the station. As long as you don't leave you can theoretically visit every station in the system. When you leave through a turnstile you don't need to tap out like in London

New Yorker here. I'm to paranoid of them getting my debit card info and people just use their PHONES to get on the trains. I'm not to happy with using my card or phone to get on the trains and busses but I'll try the Omni card when it comes out in full.
For now I'm sticking to the metrocard
The old magnetic strip store your number in plain, the new contactless cards doesnt do that. It will send an encrypted token and it does not repeat for each transactions so even if someone has a skimmer that copy that token it is only good for one transaction and it cannot go above the amount that requires a PIN.
So you can use metro card

Paying via a contactless bank card was possible from 2007(!) on London Underground - Apple Pay was 2014
Oyster was launched in 2003, Barclaycard partnered with TFL in 2007 to trial the only combo bank card and Oyster card, Contactless was from 2014, Apple Pay launched in the UK in 2015 and the Tube officially supported in 2016 (there were previously bugs with overcharging)

"Tapping" is a bit of a misnomer IMO. You have to hold it there for a second until you get that beep. I learned that the hard way using OMNY for the very first time last month in front of a bus driver.
P.S. Can't wait for new turnstiles.

You can transfer to any MTA train, if it’s at the same stop the train you usually take is.
You don’t have to pay if that train stops at that station as well

Nah this is better. You don’t need to buy a ticket now. You just use your digital wallet on your phone as your fare pay. Similar on the Dc metro. Very convenient and seamless
@@portcybertryx222 I can just literally press a button in my phone and then i don't even need to scan i or anything. Only if you are traveling on a bud you need to show the ticket from your phone.

Don’t listen to this, very bad advice. Stick to the metro cuz they charge you the same anyway and if you pay with card you won’t be granted a free transfer ride on your next transit visit.
It's a good option but I prefer metrocard. Do not want to dirty my phone or take it out. Thats why i dont even use apple pay. Rather my metrocard get the filth or if anything credit card.

They are also introducing an OMNY tap card. However if you mean you don’t trust the new OMNY system at all, then I regret to inform you that they are phasing out and discontinuing MetroCard this year.

not trying to be rude, but great video, however its fairy simple. Theres ad's all over nyc that explain how to use OMNY. Even I knew it when I was like 10 or 11 (3 years ago). Kepp up the nice work though!!!1
OMNY is only worth it if you use it more than 12 times a week because after your 12th one it’s free through Sunday
