ZAMBUJEIRA do MAR - PRAIA do ODECEIXE (18.5 km)
The humble Capela de Nossa Senhora do Mar overlooks the shore of Zambujeira to begin another fascinating stage along the Trilho dos Pescadores.
In the first kilometers we notice the presence of numerous hikers who enjoy marking the profiles of the Praias de Zambujeira do Mar and Alteirinhos.
Then we face a small climb to surround the Cabeça Gorda dune to later end up at the spectacular cliffs of Praia da Alvorião and Praia do Carvalhal.
From the last sandy area we face a short but steep climb towards a kind of animal reserve where we are surprised by an ostrich. The next beach also perplexes us, that of dos Machados, shaped like an almost perfect waning moon.
We flank these cliffs and those that follow them until Praia da Amália, where signs direct us inland to save some private properties.
Along this section we will cross agricultural land until the road returns us to the coast through the Carreira Brava salient area. Later we will walk close to the edges along a coast dotted with rocky outcrops, some of them well used by storks.
The small fishing town of A Azenha do Mar will be worth having lunch and continuing with a leisurely after-dinner meal descending to its port and its picturesque beach.
Immediately after, a steep climb returns us to the top of the cliff strip where another interval of breathtaking rock formations awaits us until we reach the dazzling Praia do Odeceixe.
