Holy shit, if they were able to eat tres leches and not swoon over how delicious it was, then it wasn't prepared well. Tres leches (done well) has to be one of the most refreshingly delightful deserts in existence.
The tres leches and flan were probably not sweet enough. Those two things needs to be crazy sweet to taste proper, specially tres leches, otherwise it will just taste like someone threw a glass of milk on your cake.

I think it's actually more of a textural and cultural thing. Even if they were prepared well, they would still be thrown off by the wetness of the tres leches, although adding baileys into the liquid probably would've helped.

Coming from a Mexican household we ate 3 leches a lot. When I first tried American cake I thought it was overcooked because it was so dry. They are having the same experience. They're used to dry cake so when they eat moist it taste weird to them.

I'm a mexicano baker and here really really people love soggy cakes, 3 leches is the ultimate party cake, it's sponge cake with a syrup made of condensed milk, evaporated milk, rum and sour cream... And churros are not from mexico, but whe eat them... Flan it's a kind of custard
Half of the things eaten in Mexico arnt from Mexico but have a mexican spin put on it anything with cheese or milk isn't "Mexican" by your definition because cows come from europe that's why most of Latin America can't drink milk or are lactose intolerant because they're ancecestors didn't drink milk excluding Peru but thats because they drank llama milk gotta get over the fact were mestizos and heavily mixed with Spanish

@@carlosvenegas2120 My masters course in human studies, outside of Peru huge chunks of latin America are lactose intolerant but its dependent on your Indio to European mixture obviously if your mostly European your gunna be fine most of the time but people who are a bit more Indio tend to struggle because as i said the new world has only had cows since the 1500s prior to that milk cheese crema anything milk/lactose based did not exist anywhere in the Americas outside of Peru so no one outside of Peru has any real tolerance to lactose now most people Proabably dont know the difference but the minute you break it down to people it clicks, i had a friend who his entire life just lived with the fact cheese would destroy his stomach then I got him some of those lactose tolerance pills and he was mind blown 😂

I think that the flavor was likely fine, it's just that the texture was just aweful. I know that's how it is with me. I had it when I had the flu, and now I permanently associate the two and I can't even think of flan without my stomach turning...

The Mexican bakery near me does churros injected with vanilla or strawberry filling, the way a jelly doughnut is injected with jam or cream. They're about a foot long, with filling injected from each end.

I swear I’ll never understand why people like normal cake, it’s so freaking dry it’s like eating sweet bread with frosting and always makes me thirsty afterwards, tres leche cake on the other hand is just so good.
Tres leches cake is on of my favorites. The cake is soaked in sweet cream and fresh whipped cream with fruit on top.

well hello there long lost cousin... I have definitely seem some different textures and flavor intensity in flans, some harder some softer, some very sweet some less sweet, it really depends on who is cooking it. But I have never had bad flan thats for sure, different but all great.

I’m not surprised, I worked in preparation at an irish pub. They like shiy like horse raddish, sour kraut, fried pickles, etc. Any super seasoned mess stuffed with stuff and with some crunch’ll do. They drench their palets like savages of course they’re not gonna eat anything sweet and delicate correctly. They want it to punch right away and have some crunch while the flavors fight each other. People just need to do a better job at explaining what they’re giving to them.

Tres Leches is... AMAAAAAAZING. My friends call it a triple milk cake and It blew my mind the first time I had it. It was just OOZING milk and it was SO scrumptious!
