  • JEEP BATTLE ROYAL! Two Jeeps drive into an Off Road Park to go Head to Head. Only one Drives Out! Duel to the Death! I made up a few challenges last minute to compare the Turlo’s Garage Jeep Liberty to the Turlo’s Garage Jeep Grand Cherokee. I also looked up a few stats to decide which vehicle is better. There is one very clear winner and it may surprise you or maybe not. Let the Jeep Off Road Games Begin!

    In regards of the jeep liberty towing, my Ford Expedition was down and I had to make a trip from Huntsville TX to Sioux Falls SD and then to deep in the hills of Ohio, 06 jeep liberty I picked up a 6' mowing deck in Sioux Falls and then picked up a front mower john deere 1435 with a deck, so that's 4500lbs for the jeep, trailer 1700lbs, the deck 560lbs and the mower was 2500lbs, that's a total of 9260lbs on a 9500lbs maximum gvwr with a jeep that has 340k miles on a original tranny and engine at 70mph, I'd say that was a test of a true mini giant. That jeep is my tool car and those wondering what fuel mileage was, it was average of 14 mpg for the whole trip.

      The best tips I can give you are keep the fluids changed especially the motor oil. If you are late on oil changes you may end up with carbon deposits restricting oil flow to important parts. The other thing is Do Not let it get Hot! And I mean if that temp gauge gets to 3/4 to the H, shut it down immediately. Those engines have a habit of dropping valve seats if they get hot. That is what happened to mine and why I got it cheap. In fact at 150,000 miles it had happened twice and the previous owners had enough. I hope this helps! 👍

      If it does it would have a rear auto locking differential. The Liberty has a limited slip differential, not a posi-trac as they were trying to call it....and the limited slip is an option not a standard feature and doesn't look like it had a limited slip, or it was worn out...in a straight line it'll act like a locker, when you turn it'll release the clutch packs in the differential to allow different speeds for cornering.
      If you really want the best Quadra-Drive system you want a Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1999-2004...in those years the quadra-drive gave you visco-locking front and rear differentials. From 2005 on the "Quadra-Drive" only gives you a rear auto-locker.

She said it drives strong and shifts well and only has 130000 or so miles on it and the 4wd doesn’t work currently but otherwise drives fine and just needs new tires. Are there any weak points in the transmission or 3.7 v6 that’s in it? Transfer cases and driveshafts are easy enough repairs for me but I don’t feel like dealing with a blown trans or thrown rod... of course as soon as I get the vehicle I’ll change all the fluids from the diffs to windshield wiper fluid but it does seem as if the 07s are much more reliable then the 06s because of the improvements made to the engine and the noticeable 60hp gain

    More data please, like specifically which year and trim is the KJ and which is the Grand Cherokee, I know the liberties come in And have a few different transfer case options, and my Liberty does have ESP, which is extremely helpful in comparison to my older Liberty but this is the 2007 limited model, and on that I have the command track case, it's got the four-wheel drive full-time option which is apparently usable on dry road, so that's definitely better than delivery you're using which seems like a base model perhaps with a rudimentary transfer case, strange to me to see the two front wheel spinning but no action from the rear but that was because one rear was spinning I imagine . I don't know what kind of differential on the rear I have but where I would become stuck previously with my 2004 Liberty I could easily push through with The ESP which blinks a light when it's being used it's also got a electric throttle which is strange to me, but also what model And you're for your Cherokee?She over 05, I did not know Jeep made an all-wheel drive option or system, most of the time I think of all wheel drive is all wheel BS.. either it's not real like on the Ford escape 2007, or it's always on and causes damage and extra wear like Saturn Vue AWD, these are my two favorite Jeeps you got right now the 2012 and up Jeeps are nice and by Jeeps I mean the Cherokee, but I wouldn't buy one past or 14 or 15..

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c Před 2 měsíci

      If your Liberty has full and part time 4WD, its Selec-Trac not Command-Trac. Command-Trac system has 2WD, 4WD Part Time, and Low Range. Selec-Trac has 2WD, 4WD Part Time, 4WD Full Time, and Low Range....both have neutral.
      The Jeep full time 4WD system has changed over the years. It used to actually be true full time 4WD, where power was sent to the front axle all the time regardless of traction conditions. The newer models starting in 1999 went to the NP247 transfer case which diverted power to the rear wheels during normal driving, and when low traction conditions were detected it would then start to send power to the front, and could send 100% of the power to the front wheels if needed. Prior to 1999 they used the NP249 transfer case in the Quadra-Trac models which sent 48% power to the front and 52% power to the rear during normal driving, but could vary the output depending on conditions. I had the 1996 Grand Cherokee with Quadra-Trac, that thing did awesome in the snow/ice, and I took it offroad a lot and never had issues getting stuck, the 4WD system would figure it out and you'd just keep on going. The downfall to the NP249 transfer case was it had a viscous coupler in the transfer case that varied the power going to the front axle, over time that viscous coupler would wear out, normally after around 150,000 miles or so....once that happened you went from full time 4WD, to more of a part time 4WD as the viscous coupler would fail in the engaged 50/50 torque split and during tight turns it would cause wheel hop and drive train binding. my 96 Grand Cherokee amazingly made it to 232k before the viscous coupler failed...and at that time I didn't know I could have simply swapped in an NP242 or NP231 transfer case and kept on going.
      The NP231 transfer case is Command-Trac part time 4WD only. The NP242 transfer case is Selec-Trac full and part time 4WD. Both the NP247 and NP249 are both the Quadra-Trac Transfer case. What gives you the Quadra-Drive system in 1999-2004 the front and rear differentials had vari-lock differentials allowing full lock up of the differential if necessary and they were automatic, and hydro-mechanical....in 2005 and newer Quadra-Drive models they only have a rear locking differential and the front is an open differential and they use the ABS system to modulate brake application to trick the front differential into sending power one way or the other for added traction....it just wears out your brake pads much quicker LOL.
      Most automatic 4WD systems, and AWD systems are reactive rather than pro-active, so they engage after you've already lost traction, rather than being live all the time providing you varying amounts of traction/stability regardless of road conditions. Subaru's AWD system is on all the time and sends power to all 4 wheels in varying amounts depending on many variables.

    • @TurlosGarage
      @TurlosGarage  Před 3 lety

      Apparently some of them do. I think some kind of posi or locking differential in the rear would make the Liberty very capable off road.
      I have to correct myself, there is some kind of posi in the rear. I can spin both rear tires when turning on wet asphalt. It is not enough for off roading. I think a locking rear differential would help but a lift kit that allows for more rear axle articulation would also be a benefit.

      It is not trail rated but it does have a trac loc rear axle. It does fairly well but my guess is a about 180,000 it probably needs some clutches. It does amazing in the snow. It does have a trac lok rear differential. At almost 150,000 miles when I filmed that it was probably due for a rebuild to tighten it up a little. We raced the Liberty at a Rally Cross last year and the axle locks up good. A little brake and about 3/4 throttle and the Jeep pivots really well.
