      Thank you Ernie, and Inside the NBA, for making it clear that this was horrific and not just some incident involving "only" 3 people. It's completely insane when an entertainment show is the only platform in our country to even conjure any kind of meaningful response to this madness. Our political system has completely failed to protect us.

Yet, how does a son of el chapo and his henchmen outgun the Mexican military? Where I am going with this is, if people want to commit an act of violence and need the necessary tools to do so, they will gain access to said tools(I.e. guns, knives, etc.) it’s just the way it is. Aussie here. I don’t understand from this distance why it’s so difficult to tighten up gun control laws in the US and make them less accessible. There have been so many horrific incidents/attacks where I’ve thought surely THAT will be the trigger that forces a change… and then it doesn’t. Other countries have provided a blueprint the US could follow. I’m not going to brag Australia is perfect but maybe that’s the problem - people won’t change until there’s a ‘perfect’ solution and there never is.

    First off, I am not for banning all guns. I just don’t get why people flip out when we say we need better background checks for people who get guns. Will this solve the problem immediately…..no. But it’s worth a try it’s better than doing nothing. Secondly, if you are a law abiding citizen why do you all flip out so much and are against it, it’s like you have nothing to worry about. Sure the process might be more extensive but if you’re a law abiding citizen you are good. You’ll still get your gun that you purchased. Lastly, two things can be true. Yes, it’s a mental health issue but the weapon of choice seems to be guns. Why are we made to feel like it’s one or the other? Or that we have to argue about it like we can only fix one of those issues. Why can’t we try and fix both. Our society really has lost its way.

    • @dmitryowens
      @dmitryowens Před 6 měsíci +3

      Exactly. It would be impossible to ban all guns in America anyway given how many there are. What we need are stricter gun control regulations and more thorough background checks and mental health evaluations for anyone looking to purchase a firearm. I highly doubt that our Founding Fathers intended Americans with histories of violence and/or mental health issues to be able to purchase and own firearms. I doubt that thought even occured to them since neither was an issue back then.

      As a collective- white black Left or Right- everyone really thinks the same kind of way.
      For the majority- most people are truly good. Don’t let them tell you any different. Good is good.
      Crazy is Crazy.
      You can’t make someone who is truly good, crazy.
      And you can’t make someone who is crazy- not crazy.
      They both will always do what they do. And this is no mystery- we all know that.

There are way more important issues going on in this world than an in-season tournament or any sport for that matter. I'm sure God is shaking his head in disgust at how we view this world and act towards one another.

    As much as I like him, Shaq's response is weak. Of course it takes a crazy person to do something like this, but no, this is not a "world" problem. Most countries have severe mass shootings between every 5 and 20 years. America has them every month. As someone who really likes him, I've been very disappointed to see him slide into this borderline politically bad takes like how jails in America are perfectly fine and how guns arent an American problem. Use your platform for something better than lazy both sides BS Shaq.

      It's definitely an American problem due to 3 main issues:
      1. America glamorizes and promotes gun violence and gun culture in general.
      2. Americans have easy access to firearms
      3. We have a terrible failed mental health system.

    In the Philppines, there's literally guns everywhere you look, at the mall, every 7-11, every corner but mass shootings, specially at schools, do not ever take place. If you want shootings like this to be way less, let armed guards that are actually allowed to use their guns and protect people do their job and assign them at schools, malls and even churches.....
