This is pretty much the reality of easter europeons , from the visuals to the text. I have lived through what he sings, being clean before 15, dreamning of making it big in the west while i was born in Bulgaria. This song is quite deep if you think about it from the perspective of a eastern europeon. During winter Balkan countries are the most depressing thing you can witness.
I actually wanted to visit eastern Europe during the peak of winter just to get a understanding of the culture there no matter how depressing maybe it'll give me a better outlook on life in the us

In a way it is kind of post apocalyptic. The second world effectively died in ~1988. The Soviet system collapsed and its satellite states that it made dependent on itself more or less fell apart in its wake. These are the ruins of that world. I hope you can all break free of the grips of organized crime and useless bureaucrats and politicians - your nations are still rich in resources that no one seems able to capitalize on due to cut throat politics. It is a shame. Most of the people I've met from there are good people that want to work hard but haven't been provided the opportunity.
In Poland are often beautiful, so maybe not in every slav country :D

My god. This is like a bad dream from my childhood. The music, the rhythm, the whistle. The slo-mo, the Adidas, the VAZ-2103 (the fancy one, compared to the 2101 or even the later 2107) the gear stick knob of weird thing frozen in glass and resin. The self-constructed dachas which look like housings for homeless, the almost blind adoration of western goods, all the stuff which to a westerner looks like cheap garbage, but to a (post)soviet looks like precious commodity one could go to jail for.. and that was only in the 'pribaltika' i shudder to think what the rest of the country got.

yo i found Tommy like 3 days ago and it's just been 72 hours of getting my mind blown (keep in mind I've been awake for 38 of them straight). Every time I pay attention I discover something new. He's ferociously creative, wicked smart, and real as fuck. I feel like his music isn't complete without his videos. The visuals always feel so cohesive and tuned into the track and it turns out it's because he does like 4 jobs on every video. like damn this is the most excited I've been for an artist in a long fucking time

Feels like a fusion between Die Antwoord and Grimes. I get the feeling there's a huge visual component to Tommy's art, but it's more about making the most out of what's available. The end result is something totally new and fresh and pretty unique.
