    Caravanning big mistake, make sure you don't make this mistake. Today the caravan came off the car while towing, this could have been a big problem and could have caused a lot of damage to the car and caravan. Don't make my mistake while towing your caravan.

    Might I suggest decompressing the ATC after reversing before unhitching, thereby avoiding damage to the rear of the car.

    Yeah I bought a new bailey Pegasus in 2021 and the build quality is terrible
    Had lots of problems most are now sorted
    Wish I'd found this video series before committing
    I'd probably have come down mark's dealership and saved myself a lot of aggravation

    Don’t drop the legs uNeil you have fitted the Alko wheel lock. When using a motor mover, hitching up to the car NEVER put the remote on the A frame of the caravan whilst you finish hitching up. Always keep the remote controller in your pocket.

    Think the biggest mistake was not to put the travel catch on, on the fridge door. Got to South Wales and everything was on the floor, including the door, a chocolate gateau, what a mess, two bottles of milk (that had run into every corner of the van) eggs,, couple broken. The worst part was the milk, took months to get rid of the cheesy smell.

    Do a bullet point and laminate it and go though each time for example 1 all lockers and draws locked 2 all roof lights closed 3 all windows. Do this type of think for towing, on site, leaving site,storage. I will read this list both my wife and I check she is at the back of the caravan and I am at the front. This way you don’t forget the aerial etc. Let’s be honest the first time you go away in the new season. It’s so easy to forget stuff where is if you have bullet points/checklist this doesn’t happen. Let me add it shouldn’t happen.
    And last of all remember the walk around checking all lockers etc
    When it comes to drinking water. I always drain the water on site and drive home with taps and vents open then on the storage I always flow the caravan to to drain whatever is left. I suffer from Colitis so I have to be extremely careful and I have always drank from the Caravan app. We fill the container and put that in the fridge so it’s nice and cold and we make our bruise Direct from the tap, the only time we would ever contemplate buying water from a supermarket is if the water taste particularly bad, but I can’t remember the last time I did that.

    Hi Mark.
    Funny Video , the way you presented it.
    But all in a serious note:- valid points/tips. And not just for newbies starting out caravaning. But relevant even for the seasoned caravaners, who may have got distracted and or forgot to do things.
    It's a cheap option to carry a spare breakaway cable just in case you snap one. It's better if you have one, and replace it, than not having one if you get pulled over by the police for an inspection.
    If your near/borderline with your MPTLM, by draining the water out you could lose 10KG's of weight or more if you have onboard water tanks, which could just put you under the MPTLM.

    Great tips Mark, another I’ve seen is a family driving away with the main door clipped open…. I did run after them to remind them. As you quite rightly say it’s the rushing and not having a routine that causes the issues. 😀😀 We all say it, everyday is a learning day 😀😀

    I think the best advice is to take your time and double check everything. It helps to write a checklist quietly at home as it helps to memorise everything. You should also check the TV aerial is locked in its travel position.

    Great tips Mark. Here’s a 1st arriving on site. Line up your wheel for the Alko wheel lock before putting your steadies down. I’ve forgotten so many times. And it’s a real pain to have to undo everything 😮

      If not. the al-ko jack come in handy, not just for aligning the wheel up for the al-ko wheel lock, but assisting leveling the caravan if needed on sloping ground. But make sure you chock opposite wheel, front & back of the tyre.

    Thanks for video very intuitive and funny. We have been caravanning for the last 4 years but when we tried to hitch caravan up to take it up the road for its 12 month service in February you would have thought that it was our first time ever. We forgot everything. We had to keep reminding each other on what we were supposed to do. i.e. wheel lock removal, taking brake off after motor mover connection and the list goes on. So thanks for the reminder. Will watch this video before each journey now just as a reminder.

    So when you arrive on site and put your legs down and remove you break away cable and disconnect car when do you level your van up? No you disconnect car and break away cable level van then put legs down yes. Keeping door keys in pocket to stop others getting in.

      Hi, I have just bought a new Bailey, I would be interested to know why it’s unusable?

    • @philip9657
      @philip9657 Před 5 měsíci +1

      for over 2 months out of the 6 we have owned it , it has been at the dealers awaiting rectifications. on delivery the shower cubicle was badly fitted and not sealed. wood trims were damaged, window stays cross threaded and unusable ( all blindingly obvious if any one had checked the caravan at the factory!) on 2nd use the bathroom door lock failed in the shut position locking us out of the bathroom and bedroom. luckily we were not trapped in the bedroom as some have been!! while travelling to have the lock fixed the cupboard latch failed and damaged the kitchen worktop. baileys response, we should not travel with anything in the cupboards! in a tourer?!!!!! its now entering the 4th week at the dealer awaiting a shower rail because bailey insisted the faulty part was removed and posted to there supplier for verification it wouldnt hold the shower head up and keeps sliding down to the bottom of the rail.
      i hate it! it has taken all the joy out of caravanning and Bailey warranty / customer service is beyond dreadful. My dealer tells me mines a good one! 😲😲
      and to add insult to injury my so called 24 year van is not built to the same spec as they are building them now because now they have added fly screens to the front windows.@@mikebro2557

      @@philip9657Oh dear, I’m sorry to read of you problems with the caravan, we have the Bailey Phoenix Plus 644, it’s a 2023 model and bought it last November, we have yet to use it, everything seems to be ok with it as we can see, but now you have made us aware that issues could arise, in which case I hope our dealership doesn’t give us the same treatment as you are getting. We sincerely hope your problems get sorted promptly, I can understand it leaving a bad feeling.

    • @kevinlawrence2127
      @kevinlawrence2127 Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi.
      Personally I wouldn't have mains water direct into the caravan, in case something goes wrong with the water pressure/ water pressure shock:- could flood the caravan, although it hasn't happened to me.
      I have been made aware by some friends that it's happened to them and caused some damage.
      I hook up the mains water direct into the water barrel, with the mains water barrel adapter. That way, any problems with a surge of water pressure, it's only the water barrel affected not the caravan, and at least then you will always have 1/2 a barrel of water if some numpty turns you off/ disconnects your water pipe. not funny though if you are in the shower, as that has happened to me.

    • @philip9657
      @philip9657 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I have used one without issue for 2 years, works perfectly. As for the what if, s what if lightning strikes what if a tree falls on me what if ……….. can go on forever! If theres a plumbing failure inside the caravan with the connected aquaroll method the pump would keep running and the aquaroll would keep filling up so no different to having the watermaster , simple answer. If your worried when you leave the caravan unattended turn the tap off. Takes 10 seconds.
