You never see these engines outside of the 300zx so its really awesome to see other Nissans going against the norm of just throwing in an RB. The VG tends to have a bad rep for being a heavy and lazy lump but personally I love them torque, low stress and juicy note.
Vg is a underdog motor most ppl don't kno how strong they are and can make serious power...Steve millens imsa 300zx was powered with vg and that thing was a beast

Ok let me get this straight you build an AWESOME VG30DETT motor from the Z32 platform but dont use timing belt covers so that a pebble doesnt blow your motor to smithereens ????? Work of art for sure. My hat is off to you sir.
Most serious hp guys don't use them, Dean moslow Jr. Doesn't and his car is a street one, I haven't used timing covers for over 2+ years and a pebble has killed my motor, there is a radiator, plenty of piping a lower shield around the crank sprocket ect. It's just not needed and trying to pull your lower intake manifold off without removing cam sprockets and other accessories is a joke, once again it's just a tad to over engineered
@@crustnotrust Keeps me in business to have guys keeping their covers off. I have like 12 Z32s a year that come to me with blown engines because of timing belt issues. Like sand getting in the pullies of the timing belt because they dont run covers to keep sand and other crap out of the bay.
I thought ut was ripped from a z31... Either way both cars has the same engine, that might explain y they have the same name, despite the fact that the z32 has a TT trim, while the z31 only had 1 turbo unfortunately... Look on the brightside the z31 in japan had a RB20DETT stright from the factory called the 200zr...
Im so glad that im a car "purist" and can appreciate a LOT of cars for what they are! I drive a Matrix XRS (very fun) and my backup car is a 97 Corolla, 105hp and auto.. As long as youre shifting the Corolla manually it can be a very fun little ride believe it or not! I could have a stock S2000 and be happy with that for years, I appreciate things how they came from the factory.

It has a few design hiccups like many other iron block engines such as casting sand and slag in the coolant passages that limit its potential. With some machining and cryo treatment, the bottom end becomes a hell of a power plant. Built vg30's can be on par with RB's and in a few instances, even the vr38. It has potential, but is more costly to wake up than most other engines.
People just like the idea of a straight-6 that revs pretty high, VG30 has a strong block but is a bit lower rpm stock, so to crank up the rpm it needs headwork like valve springs etc to avoid float
The VG30DE is a very underrated engine as well as its predecessor the VG30E
