Bruce Neswick is the Director of Cathedral Music and Organist at St. John The Divine.
About his work, David Hurd writes:
RECITATIVE AND HYMN - THE HUMBLING begins as an improvisatory flute solo line. In the central section of this movement fragments of the chant melody and recitative are in dialogue. The final section brings the recitative together with the Christmas hymn Divinum mysterium ('Of the Father's love begotten"), the melody of which occurs in the upper pedal voice.

I love this work by Dr. Hurd, but this movement is my favorite. I first heard it some years ago when Bruce Neswick played it at the Sewanee Church Music Conference at the University of the South. I obtained the score directly from David Hurd but have not yet played it. One day I will!

Learn the piece. I played it 32 years ago on a 3 man. Flentrop in Cleveland. Was this piece easy in a big space, on a tracker? No, it wasn't!
Good piece, but not for the faint of heart. You better have some technique to burn to play it!
