    There are many more issues I haven’t talked about in this video too. Here are some:
    - The lack of music. Seriously it’s just the main menu theme and one ingame soundtrack. Where the hell is the rest? Previous CoH titles had multiple tracks and even themes for each faction.
    - The jump scare endgame scene where you’re taken straight out of the match and can’t view the battelfield.
    - The end game statistics are a complete joke and make no sense too.
    - Once you’ve done a custom game you’re forced to reinvite everyone back to the lobby.
    - The pings on the mini map from you or allies are hard to hear and even harder to see! No difference in the pings themselves. All they had to do here was just copy the same system from CoH1.
    - The kill counters are hard to find on units now. You’ve got to hover over the experience bar. Makes it hard for viewers to tell at a glance. Just makes no sense.
    - Missing audio cues for grenades being lobbed (specifically satchel charges)
    - Units getting stuck after exiting certain houses.
    - No ingame leaderboards
    - No proper social system ingame to chat with the rest of the community
    - No option to rejoin after disconnecting (it’s 2023 we should have this option now…)
    - No observer mode
    - No proper replay system
    - No depth to ingame tips and guides/ build orders
    - The tactical map is a mess with unit cards covering other unit cards
    - Machineguns in buildings missing their face direction button.
    - Random input delay during matches making it unplayable at times.
    - Master League the tournament ran by the community (specifically A_E) received no funding or any exposure from Relic or SEGA.

      And you can't surrender, unless I just couldn't find it out myself, lol.
      BUT usually you also had a little windowed overview about the players and which faction they play.

    Relic's whole narrative was, to co-design COH3 with the community. All these months of feedback feedback and more feedback and it feels like it went all to dust. Thank you for doing this Hans. I wish more popular streamers would talk about this the way you did, because the state of the game is unacceptable and I really think we should stick together and make a voice.

      I wanted to buy it reflexively as I am a fan as old as hans ( uff) but I abstained because I do remember that which shouldn't be named *DoW III* Cough* and that effin bastard of game director who created that abomination. We told him during alpha that his idea would ruin the IP and he just laughed. Now I am not giving a dime to relic unless they fix their mess.

      Well said Sir, I have thousands of hour in CoH and I feel insulted by the quality of this release as well as by Relics lack of communication. And to top it off...they list all their paid 10/10 reviews on both steam and CoH2 in game news feed.

    Couldn’t agree more! The retreat bug in multiplayer, where your troops just stand there like lemons getting blown to bits while you’re hammering the retreat key and you’re forced to watch your veteran soldiers get wiped, just blows my mind that a AAA title has had such bad quality control. I keep coming back to it as the core gameplay is so addictive, but I feel like that Larry David meme - “Fuck you and I’ll see you tomorrow!”

      Saved me $60. I’ll stick to Blitzkrieg Mod on the COH 1. I was not a fan of COH 2.

    to be honest i was pretty surprised how much content is in the game: 4 factions and 2 campaigns from the launch on. it would have been a classy relic-thing to sell out necessary content like factions in coh2 later on as dlcs. i think we should give credit for that.
    however, your point about the polishing is absolutely true. its insane how many bugs are destroying the multiplayer so far.

      I'll say as someone who comes from SC2, there's absolutely no replay system or ability to view your past game statistics. You have to use an outside website to view your ranked ELO and leader boards as well. I've also had an issue personally where my hotkey settings *reset* every time I start the game, and I find myself with hotkeys I don't use and need to manually change them *every* time. I'm really enjoying this game as someone new to the franchise, but I'm definitely hoping some fixes come through.

      @@adrianfiedler3520 They learnt their lesson after CoH 2. One of the biggest flops on release was the fact CoH 1 went from 4 factions with DLC down to 2 factions with CoH 2's release. I was an enjoyer of CoH 2 but I definitely felt the lack of content with the downgrade in faction size. Furthermore, times have changed as well and expectations are different for RTS games.

    I was really sad reading the title and watching the video but I 100% agree. I am biased and I want this game to do well. Hopefully with time it reaches the level it has the potential to reach. Keep it up Hans!

    One thing that annoys me a lot is the stats not working at the end of the game. It removes some of the satisfaction of ending a game. It feels like it just ends and that's it

    I built my Pc for coh2. Have close to 2k hours in the game. I haven’t bothered getting the game just based off the videos I’ve seen here online. It looks like a massive step back.

      @@Max_Power100 I don’t know if because it’s just different comments or what, but the soldiers seem to never shut the fuk up. The infantry models are indistinguishable. Coh2 you could tell exactly what units were what. From what I’ve seen from Hans gameplay, I can barely even see the models, they seem to blend into the environment and all look the exact same. Neither of these were issues I recall, from watching videos/streams coh2. Everyone has their own opinion it’s enough for me to play other games for the time being.

      @@tlobrill1 I also have about 2k hours in CoH2, and honestly CoH3 feels and plays just like... Company of Heroes. The game has a lot of polishing issues, no doubt, but honestly none of the ones you've brought up particularly resonate with me or bother me. For what it's worth, I felt exactly what you were describing when transitioning from CoH 1 to CoH 2 at CoH 2's launch. I felt like I couldn't get an overview of anything, everything looked and felt off, but I haven't experienced that at all this time around.

    Good that you talk about this, more content creators need to be radical about this. I am so pissed because the game is lot of fun, but i have 0 motivation to play it with the lack of content, unlockables, progression system, ranked mm, overall statistics ingame, match history, customization, bugs, audio being awful, animations being downgraded, lack of maps, the input delay.. There’s so much wrong with the game and so little done well at this moment.

    100%. Bugs in the crucial spots of the multiplayer maps drive me crazy. I love playing the game very much, but honestly... There are tons of small stupid things that could have been fixed since beta at least.

    Iv been loving the game online but damn…you are spot on. I mean something simple like name tags…we’ve had that since COH1. And I just finished the campaigns and all I can say is whoever was in charge of story needs to be fired. So many things…just please SEGA keep it alive. Iv never seen so many fans so disappointed yet ready to hang on if you give it the effort.

    I’m happy that Relic spent the time to develop four factions but I think you rightly point out a lot of QoL and quality issues. So many icon holdovers from coh2 to coh3, clunky social menus (why not just use Steam like in coh2?), a stagnant single player offering with poor AI, and lots of pathfinding bugs and slow balance.
    I really believe the game could’ve done with a balance pass after the tech test, a 2-4 week public mp beta, and then an additional 2-4 weeks to iron out bugs, integrate new assets (replace coh2 UI assets), and tune the AI.

      It really seems like this is a common state in video games nowadays. Poor products upon release, and tone deaf developers. Madden been trash since 2010. We've been screaming for changes but they fall on deaf ears. Haven't bought the game since like 2012. Not sure if they're involving people that aren't part of the community, and view their position as just a job or what. Recently NCAA Football 14 had grown a community of modders where EA eventually hired a few off the modding crew for their new NCAA Football project. Hoping for the best.

    2:00 I think the asset is not an easy fix because they do not have them. This is propably the last thing you do in development and they clearly rushed the game to release so they just put something they already had there. They have much greater problems then an icon fix so it is propably on the far end of their to-do-list.

      To my surprise the balance and faction design in-game is actually the best part of CoH 3, and is usually the area where I temper my expectations on a release of a new game since it requires a lot more effort to finetune balance.

      @@SuperBROKEN81yes they are lmao. Wehr is unusable right now unless you cheese falls and jaegers which isnt fun. Dak is the hardest faction to play correctly. Brits are hands down the easiest faction to play as sections do everything for some reason. They pretty much have no bad non doctrinal units. Usf is cheese because of pathfinder spam and the fact that the AA halftrack comes out at 4:30 minutes and 1 bursts entire light vehicles is absurd. Riflemen with BARS wipes the floor with any axis infantry. Not one infantry unit is worth its price right now for dak which is why you see pio spam. Game is definitely busted and this is whet happens when relic balances around reddit posts of trash 4v4 players who cant be bothered to try and learn how to beat the strategy they are losing to.

    Great video Hans! I am frustrated as well. I thought that user experience wise it would have all the improvements made in coh2 (UI, gameplay controls, colors, tab order, etc), and then some (rejoin, keybinds etc). Instead we get less. A lot of this was already outlined in one of your videos from autumn last year, where you listed what you wanted to see for coh3. Whats really embaressing is that the community is pitching in and trying to solve these issues for Relic, and to some extent succeding (thinking about replays and Jan, great work).

    I'm so happy you did this video, I really hope Lelic sees it. The lack of care this game has is infuriating. Let me give another example. I bought the premium collectors edition! In it there is an artbook with art and information about the game and development. 4 pages are about the factions, when I read the 4 pages (1 page per faction) I instantly reliaze that the wehrmach information page has a totally differant text font than the other 3. Imagine it's like US, Brit and DAK has "times new roman" and then wehrmacht suddenly has Calibri and in "bold". Like how did NO ONE see this issue? And how did it get Ok'ed for printing and production. Everything just feels like they don't really give a shit.

    Relic's problem is its inability to steer a project. I work in software and I know how infuriatingly long time stuff can take and how confusing it can be - small things can take weeks and major things sometimes only take hours.
    You need someone who can control a project, focus on the things you can get done and find out how to axe or postpone chunks of the game which run into quicksand.
    They aren't lazy, I think. The project is just bigger than they are willing to admit and so they do not cut back in a prioritized manner.
    I watched the tournament and decided not to buy the game yet - maybe I never will. Has more charm than CoH2 though, IMHO.

      I figured project management had been a problem with the development of a lot of games. Really does seem to be a consistent problem across the board. I never understand why things that worked well or were popular from previous games, weren't carried forward from the previous game, and then they supposedly include the community in the development they still fumble the project. The community formally should be the officially included as project stakeholders. Basically they aren't soliciting feedback, nor performing quality assurance. Being cheap!

      Without intimate knowledge of this game it’s hard to say what was and was not prioritized only the things you can be critical of in retrospect. Fortunately I think many of the things mentioned can be patched in over time.

Can you give specifics about the development lifecycle you know for certain are not being properly done or process or procedures are not being followed or completed? This sounds like setting up a scarecrow to attack and beating up on a made up enemy to feel in control of things people are disappointed about. Saying it’s a “broken process” and then saying it’s consistent.. ‘What’ process is consistently broken?

    The truth is that I was looking forward to the launch of the third part just like you played the first and the two since they came out. I thought that by the three they already opened learned but they are still the same after how the two was launched. One thing I would add I am a Spanish-speaking player and the previous games had a really incredible translation into my language in voices that gave much more life to the game and the units and to feel that now only the text is in Spanish feels like a great drop in quality.

    Couldn’t agree more with everyone’s sentiment. My son and I play; we are adamant followers of the game, but at times the sloppiness makes it difficult even for us.
    Hoping that Relic puts the necessary manpower into it, so the full potential of the game comes out sooner than later.

    While I'm loving the game and have a blast with it I have to agree. UI should be reworked and polish is direly missing. I'd still recommend the game, even in the current state. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist. But IMHO the core is very solid, it just needed couple more months to bring it to perfection.

    For real I have been waiting to purchase the game and every time I see tourny games/content I get excited to play just to realize nothing is fixed yet. After getting shafted with DoW3 I'm very reluctant and at this rate will probably be enjoying CoH3 through dedicated creators like yourself Hans. Thank you for fighting the good fight on behalf of RTS enthusiasts.

    My favorite was using team colors option, and losing a game immediately because I am red on screen but blue on the mini map, so when I look at territory near my base I assumed It was mine. I was back capped and didn't notice for like half the game.

    Fully agreed! I started the game series with cog2, and doing this game had me worried day one of testing. It's a sad shame to see ingame stores and knowing DLC packs are on their way. In the past, most of those games didn't care to fix their stuff and just work on new things to sell to us. I hope this is not true going forward. It seems unlikely.

    I think the silhouettes on the menu are generalised and referring to a category or type of vehicle rather than an actual vehicle - so not actually wrong - It just seems wrong because at the moment there's only 1 choice of, for example, 'light vehicle' - which they have used the generalised icon of a jeep for.
    In your example you say the wehrmacht reckon icon doesn't look like a Kettenkrad. I think this is because in the future there won't be just 1 kettenkrad vehicle to choose from (so no point in the loadout option being present at all) .. there will be all sorts of jeeps and vehicles underneath the SINGLE silhouette button - so the silhouette is just a generic 'Click here to see your choices for small light vehicle' button. In other words, I'm 99% sure this isn't a mistake/bug at all. It's just a generalised icon meaning 'show me all the light vehicles'.
    In the US Tanks there are 2 different tanks, for example, all under the generic silhouette of a general US tank.

    adding to that i had a bug where i wanted to retreat a mashine gun squad and it just stood still forever not moving. And clicking it to move didnt work, to retreat didnt work, it was just there the whole time standing

    the escape button and tank reversal button are the same. After the grouping, it gets tragic. When double click all units spawn from the same group, not the area! Not only that, if one of them escapes to the base, it's all a bug

    I've been loving the game, but yeah the lack of polish is just crazy. A lot of the issues would be super quick fixes too (like an asset swap, or tweaking the ping size/sound, etc). Really hoping they address the issues soon before more and more players jump ship!

    - Victory points are very fast
    No profiles page to see stats or match history present.
    No ability to view leaderboards in-game.
    No ranked matchmaking in multiplayer.
    Fallschirmjagers missing 3D models.
    Missing surrender option.
    No inventory system - you cannot change the badge, banner, title, basically anything related to your ingame profile personalization.
    Only 3 Battlegroups per faction (same amount as in beta). As a result, there are units currently in the game that are unable to be accessed in multiplayer due to there not being a battlegroup made for them.
    Only 2 4v4 MP maps (same amount as in beta).
    Only 3 3v3 MP maps (same amount as in beta).
    No earning of credits after games, meaning no way for us to earn said free credits to later buy things in the in-game store like in COH2.
    Untitled Italian unit with Adrian helmet seen in Relic's official COH3 screenshots is nowhere to be seen in the game.
    Unable to queue capture orders on the tactical map.
    No way to view the map at the end of the game.
    No chat room server support.
    After the game ends, there is no way to chat with your opponents or teammates.
    No ability to name your multiplayer game.
    No background sounds of birds chirping, faded gunfire in the distance, etc that was present in previous entries to give off that 'COH vibe'.
    No player names showing over units when hovered over them.
    No player list in-game in multiplayer (can't tell if human teammate got replaced by AI)
    No leaderboards for pre-made teams.
    No crushing infantry with heavy vehicles.
    Not being able to ram tanks into buildings to create holes anymore (building destruction physics).
    Unit statistics not viewable in game, nor what their advantages are.
    Not being able to rebind modifier keys like Shift, Alt, and Tab. For example, this makes this a no-buy for some who are left-handed and don’t use a traditional hand placement on a keyboard.
    No scroll speed setting (edge panning speed) for those who don't use WASD or arrows as default.
    Cannot multi-select control groups with Shift + Numbers, instead it assigns multiple control groups to individual units.
    No ability to click on a dropped lmg or anti tank weapon to see exactly what kind of weapon it is.
    'Temporary' main menu UI from beta still remaining in full release.
    Tiny soundtrack compared to previous COH games.
    No ability to have the camera follow a unit you double clicked on (either the unit or it portrait). This was present in COH1/2.
    No Bulletin system.
    No Observer mode.
    Unable to see crew weapons built in post-match stats screen.
    No replays (although a workaround is available).
    Unable to invite friends from Steam, directly from the steam UI and steam overlay.
    Disappointing state of modding tools. Many possibilities were promised by Relic pre-launch in terms of modding, but it seems that turned out to be false and in reality the options are very limited.
    Only English language voice tracks.
    Bugs:
    Devil's Brigade DLC not unlocking for the launch edition of the game for everyone.
    Global Unit Control Position keeps resetting itself after each game.
    AI failing to attack you in campaign unless scripted.
    Custom game server browser broken. For example, you can only see 9 games, no sorting, no searching, no paging of the list. The top 9 games are usually never launched with an AFK host.
    Instances where crew served weapons (for example, a US MG Squad and a mortar squad) both got "stuck" in a green covered position (which they were not really stuck or surrounded since it was open behind them) after pressing retreat.
    254 Recon Tractor has the ability to call in free offmap mortars, at vet 1 it gains the ability to lock and have an improved barrage overwriting the default one.
    US Airborne troops infinite spawn glitch.
    Capture point bug. For example, the enemy did not loose tickets. We had 400, they had 39. We still held one, but we tickled down until we lost.
    Pings have several seconds of sound delay.
    Base building flashing between textures when anti-aliasing is set to high.
    Some portraits or icons may appear lower resolution or not scaling correctly to the user interface.
    Infantry units having their 'engines be broken'.
    Flickering walls bug.
    Sound and graphics begin to stutter after certain amount of playtime. Restarting the game fixes.
    Airborne models reload their carbines like they are a bolt action.
    Some team weapons have their animation speed ramped up way too fast. Example, the Brit heavy mortar.
    The Behind Enemy Lines ability for the US Airborne does not function as intended.
    When capturing a team weapon, your units adopt previous owner/faction voice lines.
    One of the US At gun voice lines is completely bugged, the voice sounds like a squeaky robot.
    Howitzers do not angle their guns correctly when firing. They do not match the angle of the shells leaving the cannon.
    Some units get stuck when exiting a building depending on surrounding geometry.
    Sometimes abilities will overlap existing abilities instead of moving to an empty square in the HUD. This often occurs when upgrading units or unlocking new Veterancy abilities.
    Not being able to click on top of the big notifications.
    Unable to save skirmish settings.
    Icons don’t show when an ability is in use. The only shown the cooldown after the ability end. For example, when I order an mortar to barrage a target out of its range i can’t tell if walked up to the fitting range and started barraging from its icon.
    Sometimes cast ability’s are ignored. For example, like when a tank isn’t in range and I cast a Panzerschrank the grenadiers just ignore the order and keep walking somewhere else.
    Unit icons inside buildings being off screen unless you can see the whole building, causing you to get suppressed without knowing from where its coming.
    No autosave in campaign.
    After match stats are hilariously broken and inaccurate.
    Minimap has no indicator of which specific unit is selected if you are tabbing through several.
    When using "walking stuka" is a circle, which doesn't fit the barrage itself which is instead an oval like shape.
    Ultra texture option is locked out for no reason (although a workaround is available).
    Pathfinding for vehicles is terrible.
    Friends who are online and in-game don’t show up as online or inviteable many times.
    Reticle/marker: when you send/direct multiple units to a spot shows only arrow, not the dots+arrow representing each group in the selection.
    Things currently in COH3 needing improvement:
    In-game visuals look too washed out/bland, require better lightning/contrast. As such, soldiers also tend to blend with the ground, sometimes not being able to instantly see where the model is standing.
    Wonky, at times brain dead in-game AI.
    Pings are still barely noticeable. COH2 it was too loud and spammy, now it makes barely any sound and hard / impossible to find.
    Tank explosions need work. For example, an exploding tank will only become static and give off a tame explosion VFX, unlike in COH2 where it would physically shake, create larger more dynamic explosion, and you would see parts and bodies flying off.
    Poor sound mixing. Extremely muffled and needs revamp.
    When upgrading some units, such as pios with flamethrower, can’t see a countdown for how long until they’re upgraded.
    Zoom level adjustments needed.
    Twitchy camera. Camera movement with the WASD keys seems a little 'jumpy'.
    Poor response of units when clicking on team weapons and weapons on the ground.
    Small unit icons. Need to be bigger, they are even smaller than COH2.
    Some of the unit icons need work. For example, the US M3 75mm halftrack still has the CoH2 Soviet SU-76 silhouette.
    Clicking on a unit should tell you how many kills it has without having to hover over a certain spot on the UI.
    Unique team colours needs fixing. For example, sometimes you can be playing as orange, and a red axis tank will be in the middle of your troops without knowing.
    - The lack of music. Seriously it’s just the main menu theme and one ingame soundtrack. Where the hell is the rest? Previous CoH titles had multiple tracks and even themes for each faction.
    - The jump scare endgame scene where you’re taken straight out of the match and can’t view the battelfield.
    - The end game statistics are a complete joke and make no sense too.
    - Once you’ve done a custom game you’re forced to reinvite everyone back to the lobby.
    - The pings on the mini map from you or allies are hard to hear and even harder to see! No difference in the pings themselves. All they had to do here was just copy the same system from CoH1.
    - The kill counters are hard to find on units now. You’ve got to hover over the experience bar. Makes it hard for viewers to tell at a glance. Just makes no sense.
    - Missing audio cues for grenades being lobbed (specifically satchel charges)
    - Units getting stuck after exiting certain houses.
    - No ingame leaderboards
    - No proper social system ingame to chat with the rest of the community
    - No option to rejoin after disconnecting (it’s 2023 we should have this option now…)
    - No observer mode
    - No proper replay system
    - No depth to ingame tips and guides/ build orders
    - The tactical map is a mess with unit cards covering other unit cards
    - Machineguns in buildings missing their face direction button.
    - Random input delay during matches making it unplayable at times.

    Regarding pathing. In COH2 you would be able to see the pathing on the minimap. Which was especially useful to pick up on unfortunate pathings if you gave a move command using the minimap or when retreating units, so you could potentially react to a dangerous retreat path, like covering a high vet unit with stuka smoke, or moving units to support as examples.
    But now it just shows a straight line.

    I'm actually surprised and glad about your honesty. And I'm also super happy that I didn't spend a penny on this utter sh*t and also mad that so many people still bought it and showed relic, they can release this and still don't worry about sales. This is exactly what's wrong with companies making games these days. Releasing early access games and asking for the full price. It's just an absolute shame of a game. Still no punishment for bad behavior of players and still no feature, to rejoin a match. No chat while on loading screen into a match and so many other missing features. Pathetic.

    There's a scout/pathfinder bug if you queue up rally points with scouts at the start of a match and select pathfinders, they will just stop or move to the next point without capping the current queued point.

    I remember losing a 1v1 because I made the mistake of turning team colors on. The game made ME red, the traditional and default color for enemies without team colors turned on, and for some reason made my opponent blue, but all of MY stuff on the minimap was blue and his was red. I kept ignoring points I needed to cap including VPs, because in the heat of the battle and micro I mistook his for mine and vice versa, needlessly bleeding points and resources, or wasting time and field presence sending squads to points I already owned. I also kept losing units because I thought the blue dot on the minimap was one of my units, but it was actually an enemy squad happily sitting on top of and wiping one of mine. It's such a basic convention of any game that blue is good and red is bad that it baffles my mind that it ever got switched around, especially in so inconsistent of a fashion, and it baffles me even further that it wasn't IMMEDIATELY patched to something sensible considering it would be such a basic and easy fix that the devs could put one guy on and have done in five minutes.

    I had bug with pioneers with flamer and 250 - they just didn't shoot flames. To fix it you need to get out of the vehicle and get in again.

    Thanks for the honest review Hans.
    But one thing people keep missing and that's a very important one;
    "Mixed" result that you are talking about is WITHOUT half of the communities actual vote. That half didn't bought the game, including my self. Thanks to the previous test versions, we already knew what will happen at the release. And also, we had experience from the DoW-3 disaster. So we, as half of the community, choose to stay away from it.
    Because of this fact, that "Mixed" result is not even close to the real deal.
    If you would add our votes to that result, trust me it would be " 👎Mostly Negative 👎" on their store page.
    But again, honest reviews from content creators like you might change the course of this mess.

    I'm a huge fan of the Company of Heroes brand but when I see what's going on here I think I'll buy this game next year when it's relatively cheaper and better. It is a pity that developers don't learn from the example of Cyberpunk and release an unfinished product. I'll stay with CoH2 though.

    I feel this is a short and sweet summary of the issues plaguing the game. Besides bad path finding and game breaking bugs. Just overall quality control on certain assets, UI design, animations, sounds (I think they patched that but I gotta listen to it again), and several other issues I wish I can dive into but feel I would end up writing a whole blog about it. Watching you and see your consistent frustrations is one of many reasons I haven’t gotten the game, especially not paying for a half baked product

    Also co-op vs ai being stuck with hard difficulty is rather disappointing since I rather pop up quick play on vs ai by difficulty selection instead of setting up / joining up a custom server. I really want more challenge instead of hard..

    I didn't buy it because I knew the coh3 had a lot of problems, but it turns out this video tells me there are so many bugs I didn't know about. lmao. My guess is that the original coh2 developers have left, leaving someone new to redeveloped the coh3, just like the Battlefield 2042.

    Excellent video Helping, mostly the multiplayer colours and names is what mos annoys me, for a minor addition you cannot change the Decals or battle tag and player icon of Devil´s brigade, I really don´t like the DB player icon, battletag and decals ( as in the US riflemen) and there is no option where I can remove it and just use a core one.

    After the game came out it’s pretty much a fact the game is not worth the price it’s asking. 20 dollars is the max I could see myself paying for these “features”

    Unfortunately these issues are just the tip of the iceberg. Majority of the game functions we had in previous games are missing here. The menu and the UI still feels like an unfinished amateur work. Buttons and menus are like placeholders for a final version we will never receive. The game itself feels like a mobile version of CoH developed by a small inexperienced team.

    I guess I'm a huge Company of Heroes fan and have some right to know what I'm talking about having hovered around the top 30 or so of 1v1 ranked for the first game when I was at my best even though I skipped CoH2 (Wasn't playing many games for a long period in my life around that time).
    Overall I'm pretty happy with the game despite agreeing with everything you're saying. I think the Mediterranean background is a unusual take on WW2 and puts more of an emphasis on lesser "seen" stuff. I.e AT rifles, early/mid war tanks like the crusader etc etc. I think the 4 factions are pretty well designed and are all nice and viable without being "Gimmicky" (I'm thinking the Brits in CoH1 who I always thought were a terrible faction despite being British!) though they do need balance. In short, I think the bare bones are there for a very decent game. DESPITE THIS I agree with pretty much everything you're saying and some stuff just BAFFLES me.
    I mean my brother was playing the multiplayer beta of this game like a year and a half ago? I figured if it was basically playable a year and a half ago it must have been super polished, but no. So many little bugs and strange design decisions. So many things that CoH1 did in 2005!!!! that are missing. The lack of ranked matchmaking on release, and not even anything ingame that says "Ranked matchmaking starts April 15th" or something. Lack of ability to join games in progress or rejoin dropped games. Very strange balance issues like people being LITERALLY invisible in smoke even if you are standing right next to them. Bad ingame icons, like the supression indicator being a tiny little thing on the top right of a unit, instead of the CoH1 surpression/pinned glowing yellow red VERY CLEAR and very intuative. Interface very outdated and like you showed on the video, not complete. Gah, I really hope this game has a long life as a MP game, but I'm worried about it.

    I knew there was trouble as soon as I reached the title screen; that artwork - oof. Then I fired up the game and saw the odd team color choices of salmon (/pink) and baby blue. Whom among the art team thought nursery colors would be a good choice for a war game. I hope gets better down the road but for now I'm going back to "Back to Basics" and CoH2.

    One thing I think really belongs on th elist is the "I win" skill planes. May favourite part was when an enemy dropped that directly on my vet 2 quad 20mm flak truck, I expected it to shoot the planes down. Buuuut since it was directly on it and not on the other end of the map, the truck went "Nah, this is fine. I accept my fate" and ate the rockets without returning fire.
    For a CoH game this is infuriating because they somehow managed to have the balance otherwise less fucked than the previous games that took over a year to balance just 2 factions instead of 4. But now 4v4 games just turn into an air show.

    Making long in depth reviews is tough so I understand why there isn't one, but I was hoping for one like that from a veteran as yourself mostly so it can get a deeper dive on the good and bad aspects of the game. I know that for me the game is to much looking like a copy paste of the older game (mostly in the graphics department that while it is slightly improved, doesn't push the envelope to much) with a very minor QoL additions that often feel like they could have been a patch in the original (like the on and off option for auto-reinforcements, its a good one but it doesn't demand creating special AI or redifining systems, everything was already in place). The few improvements for the game that did demand AI work or introduced new systems such as the assualt building and the auto vaulting are great additions that are expected from new titles, but are too few to count and are escorted by a mariad of issues such as the ones you had shown to have been solved in the past which feels like one step foraward two step backwards.
    As for the PR/marketing, I initially really saw it as a positive thing for them to try to showcase the game and invovle players with Alphas and Betas ahead of time, this was terrific stuff that really garnered good will from people I think. That being said the those tests really started to highlight what is gonna come which is not that impressive improvements and even the one big step forward they introduced such as the campaign map (something that I as a 4X player really was interested in) ended up almost exactly as it was shown in the alpha, making it feel like the path was set and we were just invited to watch. It's tough to hear the words 'lip service' as I still hope that it wasn't meant to be that, but I feel you since there are certainly many companies which are doing that kind of PR stunts.
    I think one of the biggest issues with development nowadays is that companies are run for as large as possible profit margins and it means development is often being shrunk to the bare minimum and even if it was held by competent hands (which not always the case, no offense to the hardworking developers but not everyone is as brilliant or as passionate as the next person) the chances for a great product being made is lowering drastically - and its a shame cause comapnies are often not communicating it on puprose :( which creates a gap in expectations and then they ask for way to much good will in return (you want my 60$ at least make me feel like its a good investment even if the game doesn't provide that much).

    Hi Hans, great points and I completely agree with you. But I genuinely think we are missing the bigger picture here, namely that Relic had very limited resources and time to develop the game (also considering with the release of AoE 4 not long ago). I wouldn't call it unprofessional, rather this is again the Cyberpunk case where management prevailed over development time.
    What I would also like to see is a clear plan, communication, and commitment from Relic.

    Theres also lots of units missing from skirmish that were in the campaigns, the UK has both Canadian and ANZAC infantry units, bofors emplacements, Archer tank destroyers, 3 pdr anti tank guns, both the churchill crocodile and the Mk IV, and a couple logistic vehicles in the campaign that requires a user made mod to get in skirmish which is just deplorable

    I've been paying the francise since the first game and im very disapointed, don't get me wrong it is fun!
    But... I miss the classic Story campagne and the german voice!
    It would be so much better to play Rommels campagne with german voice.
    While playing the Italy campagn, some germans infantrie is stuck on the map and reloading doesnt work! I CAN'T EVEN PLAY THE CAMPAGNE AFTER LIKE 25h!

    The problem with making a lot of content is that you need a team large enough to handle it. I think they bit off more than they could chew, went with too large of a scope. It's evident in the missing or placeholder art, the lack of music, and large amount of problems that should have been caught and addressed in QA before release. It was either rushed by the publisher or simply needed more time or staff to bring it up to the expected level. I personally would have preferred if they'd focused on multiplayer and left one of the campaigns for later.

    Couldn't agree more. The core gameplay is really good. The balance has issues, but no more so than most games at launch. But I have never seen such atrocious UI and menu design. To launch without replays, to not be able to invite players withing fighting through a half dozen overlapping notification boxes? These are basic well understood features since the 90s.

    I wouldn't blame QA for a lot of the bugs that we're seeing in the release version. We can't see the bug database to see if these were filed, then got punted down the road by the Production team or other bits of leadership.
    Frequently a lot of the blame happens to throw crap at QA but they frequently are not given the power to stop something from shipping for the issues they see - that is all done by production leadership to determine what the bar is for halting a launch of a title or a patch.
    Which I agree with all the things you're calling out - they didn't have additional Filter options for Co-Op vs AI multiplayer which is missing from the CoH2 experience.
    A lot of this doesn't feel polished and got pushed out. Hopefully they'll work on doing a make-good and get the product in line with what they have for CoH2. I'd like to see more Co-Op Campaign missions similar to what was done in CoH2. They have a lot of work to do really to get this back in line with what user expectations are.

    4 factions isn't anything to bolster about, when they aren't really that unique. Most infrantry, tanks, and utility units feel like reskins from the other factions. It's not like zerg vs. protoss for example, in terms of uniqueness, and I feel like WW2 has enough interesting aspects to it to actually manage that. It would be more interesting, imo.

    I have the feeling that most of the development's budget went for the campains, especially the italian one. But seriously, what is the proportion of CoH players that want to play against IA?

      Great point - the campaign is something people will play a couple of times - MP is a decade-plus thing. Yet they waste precious dev time with this BS Total War wannabe that isn't satisfying on any level (playing the same three skirmish iterations on the same five maps over and over again?). It's like romances in RPGs - they squander assets, time and resources on BS that satisfies a noisy minority to the detriment of the wider game.

    for me, the UI seems like a huge beta. I cant believe how unpolished it was. The notifications, friends, and invites are horrid. Good video. Hopefully they listen....

    Hey Hans, i think the pictures, for example that the Ketten has a Kuebelwagen silhouette is because they want to have a uniform symbol for light vehicles and so on.

      But it just looks bad because there are no other vehicles available, it hints at an idea they had where you could change your army structure to your own liking, taking the kubelwagon rather than the kettenrad but not implemented it.

    You do make a good point that a lot of people are saying that they will buy it in 6-12 months but like BFV that might be a bad idea if it doesn't survive that long and developers / publishers aren't know for being willing to turn franchises around unless there is guaranteed payoff which there never is.

    I'd also mentioned the weak sound and the bad localization. After CoH1+2 did a great job in both CoH3 is just disappointing.

    60€ for a game that is at best in Early Access state of development. - Relic knows how to maintain its brands and win over the goodwill of the community.

    It was like this for AOE4 as well tho, and I think after one year or so, with all this glitches slowly getting removed one by one, the game end up being quite decent.
    So don't despair. yet. I guess.

    If there was a tipping point where opinions could resolve to whether this release was train wreck or not...well sheeeeit, I think this video maybe it...
    So very well said Hans! Only time will tell if the team decide to turn the ship around or jump ship entirely. As a die hard fan also, its heart breaking to see that greed (lets be honest, greed is the reason you kick this unready thing out the door too early... all the while not only killing the franchise, but meeting the irony of the fact that being less greedy up front could and would have undoubtly caterpulted the franchise into the absolute top of the RTS charts for a very long and the money would have come... oh how the money would have come.
    And as for me Im hanging up my hat on the game since my days at university playing for the the top 20 page 1 on the ranking tables.
    Maybe some modders can fix it all up?? Maybe they can get the dev work done for free!
    Why oh why oh why did I preorder. I had so much trust in their good name I guess. Fool me once!!!
    Like how bad does a game have to be before youre legally allowed a refund??

    Well I was expecting this, so I do not preoffer or bought the game yet. I am waiting for Relic to fix it first. And later during sales, maybe summer or autumn I will buy.

    They broke Control Groups. You cannot multi-select them anymore, it just assigns the units into both groups, so your units are no longer exclusive to their original group. It's the system from AOE4 but it's inappropriate for COH because it makes unit selection much less precise. The minimap also doesn't show who you have selected if you are tabbing multiple, nor does it show the route your units will take; it just shows a straight line.

    Nahh man dont be sorry. This is exactly what we need to do with triple A games. Point out all its flaws cause it surely asks for 60 quid now, for a game that's not ready. I'm seriously not surprised this happened cause 1, it seems videogame companies now don't value their main franchises and 2 RTS isn't as important now. Surely they have their best people working on another shitty battle royale XD
    Anyways. I love RTS and I was ready to jump into this game from min 1 since I saw the trailer. Good thing they brought out the beta weekend to open my eyes. Guys never preorder a game. Always wait for reviews. Every f***ing game now in the industry comes as a game as a service even tho they dont say it. Its much better to wait a year for it to be polished and pick it up on a sale for 20 bucks. Again, thanx for the video Hans.

    I might not wait 6 months but I'll certainly wait until Hans and/or AE say that the game got significantly better.
