Austin touches my soul. Nobody can touch him. Just glorious.
Just FYI this recording from David was his FIRST SOLO concert some 20+ years ago. He has incredible talent. Austin has incredible talent. They interpreted it differently and fans will always declare "their guy" the best. I'm a fan of both and loved both entirely different performances. Blessings
First time hearing Austin. He's very good. David touches my soul.
They are both amazing, but I enjoyed Austin's version more. An even better example of Austin's talent is Home Free's cover of "When A Man Loves A Woman", it is excellent. I hope you will react to it!
What people aren't addressing here is that this is one of the signature songs of Les Miserable. Its not a pop song...this is about asking god to have a boy life...I think David while a great singer loses the message of the song. Austin took some pop license here too but still paid homage to the songs roots. Gotta give it to Austin here.
Both are simply stunning!
Austin hands down
Austin's version just ripped the tears out of my eyes....
Don't like to compare but I'm a Home Fry so I'm picking Austin. Yes more Home Free Amazed, Unchained Melody, so many more
Ok I got you 😉 also check out my Home Free playlist
They are both incredible. It comes down to taste really. The truth is, their setups lend to their performances. Austin's is in a small room with just a couple of people, a more intimate setting that lends to a more intimate performance. David is performing the first of a double concert for live filming for two DVDs, so he's a little more measured in his performance, yet he is still incredibly connected to the song. Having a large audience present (for four hours of solo singing for approximately 31 songs) won't have the same effect as a small room with just an instrument. The intimacy of Austin's setting fits better for the song, but I do prefer David overall though.
I am just going to sit here and soak in the blessed and incredible talent both of these men have shared with the world. WOW. Just, absolutely... WOW.
Thank you so much for posting this. Beautiful singing. I appreciate and agree with all your comments. I had never heard Austin sing before. You’re a blessing to me today.❤
Austin sings from the HEART
You just found the greatest male vocalist and tenor of ALL TIME David Phelps and Austin learned to sing from David Phelps
I find this comment hilarious considering that Austin was only 6 years old when David started his professional career. OF COURSE Austin learned to sing partly by listening to him. It has NOTHING to do with who's got the best voice, or sang this the best.
All Austin 🥰 needed was a piano & his voice, .
nothing else.
Austin was ONLY 6 when
Phelps started his professional career
So don’t understand by these 2 were compared. SMH

I never heard of David Phelps before. He did a good job. But I think Austin Brown had more soul. His phrasing was amazing, letting you hear every syllable. And it felt as if he were really feeling the words.
Both were beautiful. Austin's felt more personal. I think part of the sound difference might be the venue they were performing in. That last phrase from Austin though.... DAMN!
Are used to watch David Phelps concert with the Gaither vocal band David is incredible. But he Austin Brown is also great. I love both of them. And I enjoy watching and listening to their music now. Thank you for sharing Sister fullwatched from California
Beautiful song, I agree but when Austin hit that high note at the end of the song…he got my vote, that’s for sure! Thanks for a great reaction! I love Home Free😊
AUSTIN 💞💞
Love his soft voice
Thanks so much for reacting to my request. I really enjoyed your analysis of both performances. It was worth the wait. Great, video. Excellent job.
It’s like comparing apples and oranges, they are both very good.
Great Reaction Video...
This was Epic.
Beautiful music 🎶
Love Austin and Home Free .. however, David Phelps is amazing and passionate and I have yet to find anyone to compare to him.
Difficult to compare one version with orchestra and another with a single acoustic instrument
Austin is okay, but to me his voice has a “tinny” voice. David’s voice is richer in tone. I could not sit for Austin more than 15 minutes.
David hands down, fellow Texan, listen to his O Holy Night, by Bill and Gloria Gaither ft. David Phelps beautiful, or Let Freedom Ring when he was with The Gaither Vocal Band. David can’t sing a bad song ‼️
Back to Back bang🔥tuned in
❤❤❤
I got my seat 💺🍿💺
A+ x 2!!!
To me there's not even a comparison between these two performances. They both have incredible voices in their own rights, but David's performance was about the song and making a great performance of the song and Austin's about the soul and the meaning of the song and the portrayal of it. Two completely different takes that really can't be compared, but my money will always go to who moves me on my heart and soul, and that's Austin.
It showed in your eyes, btw. You were deeply moved by Austin's, but not so much my David's, that was more about being impressed. It's not about the voices, it's about the soul and nobody comes even close to Austin when it comes to that.
David also had a full orchestra to help him move the audience, while Austin has a simple piano.
I saw another reactor say that when Austin sings this it moved you straight into the battlefield and the middle of the story, whether you know it or not, and I agree. To me this speaks of his true greatness, because I never for a moment felt I was anywhere else during David's.
I'm not saying David can't do this song better than he did here, I'm certain he can, but this wasn't it.
The truth is, their setups lend to their performances. Austin's is in a small room with just a couple of people, a more intimate setting that lends to a more intimate performance... which fits the song perfectly. David is performing the first of a double concert for live filming for two DVDs, so he's a little more measured in this performance, yet he is still incredibly connected to the song. Having a large audience present (for four hours of solo singing for approximately 31 songs) won't have the same effect as a small room with just an instrument. I've seen David perform in more intimate spaces and it rips your heart out. David is a "belter" though, so the large spaces suit his style better when he's performing a full set.
I also noticed our reactor showing more emotion to Austins version than to Davids. Hands down I love Austin more, he just seemed to convey the emotion to his audience better and it definitely was more personal.
David is the best male vocalist in the world today and has been for the past twenty years or more....I know....I have seen him 11 times live and met him and his family several times. He is as gracious and humble as he is talented.
Gabriel Henriquez singing I will always love you in 2018 vs Judika also singing his cover version of I will always love you next please. This should be epic. I am really excited to hear your opinion on this one as to who sang it best. Please check them out.
that wasn't a tie if you're going to have a competition, pick one or the other being nice is not a pick ...
I'm sure Austin is a great guy but we have singers as good at my church. None can compare to David Phelps and the heart he puts in his songs. His music is anointed by God.
You must have a wonderful choir.
David has an incredible voice but the song sounded to commercialized .Austin put his whole heart and soul in it...he felt every word that he sang .
I disagree with you...they don't sound alike at all...their voices are totally different... Austin won that sing off hands down!!!!!!!!!
They both sounded amazing. David had more instruments which made it sound fuller. I agree, can’t choose…
