- Houston is a village in the council area of Renfrewshire in the west central Lowlands of Scotland.
The village grew around a 16th-century castle and parish church dedicated to Saint Peter, which gave the area its former name of Kilpeter ("Cille Pheadair" in Scottish Gaelic). The present-day old village dates mainly back to the 18th century and was a planned community, replacing earlier buildings. Historically, the economy was based around agriculture and, in common with a number of other Renfrewshire villages, cotton weaving. The old village was designated as a conservation area in 1968.
Houston Renfrewshire I can trace my ancestors to here. Francis and Agnes Roy (McKechney) 1808, lived and worked here. Couldn't find them in the cemetery though.
Have you checked both cemeteries? I think the older graves are in the grounds of Houston and Killellan Kirk. McKechney might also be spelt McKecknie.
@@worldofrandometry6912 Hello, yes we've tried all the cemeteries in 2017, there is an entry in the burial records for Agnes which I haven't seen or found but Iv'e been told it exists ! Have also used the name variants, I think they lived in Burnbrae Street, Francis was a gardener at one of the big houses. Have now joined the Renfrewshire Fam Hist Soc to see if I can learn more ! Thanks for your input, all leads help !
I am from Euston
