  • Originally aired on November 4, 1957 (Fun With Music Day)
This was an unusual Fun With Music skit, as it has no singing and dancing (or even dialogue) until near the end. However, this skit does show Darlene's comedic talent, which I don't think was used that much on the show.
    Intro by Doreen Tracey
    Featuring Darlene Gillespie
With Cubby O'Brien, Jimmie Dodd, Bob Amsberry, Roy Williams,
and Tommy Cole, Bobby Burgess, Annette Funicello, Lynn Ready, Cheryl Holdridge, Don Grady, and Linda Hughes.

I must admit, that over and over again, Darlene's performances were absolutely brilliant. It is shocking that she never received the recognition that Darlene deserved.

Thank you for your comment! I completely agree with you. Darlene is an incredibly talented performer, and it's a shame that she hasn't received the recognition she deserves. Hopefully, with more people like you recognizing her brilliance, she'll get the recognition she deserves soon!

I'm impressed with how well Darlene's made it through the tumult of her life... she comes off like the same nice and talented kid she was. If anything, her life story is an inspirational one. She seems happy enough keeping to herself and her family these days, but I do wish the Company would give Darlene her due while she's still here to get it.

Jimmie was such a great tenor guitar player. He plays effortlessly without even looking at his fingers

In the 2970’s they had the reruns of the Mickey Mouse club, I know it was before my time, I liked Darleen & Annett.

Nope Annette only has a cameo with a date [ Bobby ] Darlene plays a geeky wallflower [ she is very convincing in the role ] who after Disney goes nowhere fast.

Why can't we just say both Annette funicello and Darlene Gillespie are great?

Unfortunately, Darlene got on the wrong side of Disney and got screwed.

now days, the scene would have a Girl dressed as a Boy as the date! Than after smoking Dope, They would hold hands watching the Ellen Dagenderless Show!

Hmmmm. A heartbroken 15 year old gets stood up on a date, so a 45 year old lech takes her inside? No wonder I always found MMC to be creepy. Instead of Jimmy and Roy, its more like Jeff Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy.
