I bought different Foam Clays to compare 🌸

  • I get a lot of questions about the Foam Clay I use, but I actually ever only used one brand, called "BOHS". So this time I bought three different Foam Clays to compare to the brand I use.
    I never thought they could be so different! But with the new Foam Clays there are actually a lot of things I could use them for, for which the "BOHS" Clay didn't work so well. But also some big disadvantages.
    I hope this video helps! Feel free to ask questions in the comments! 😊

    (I live in europe, so I don't know about availability in other countries.)

    As someone who second guesses and needs to research before purchasing, your thorough comparison video was super helpful! Thank you so much

      I can totally relate 😅 I think about what to buy for an eternity and research everything beforehand. I‘m really happy this video helped 😊

    Thank you for trying the different kinds of foam clay. I just started using it and I am loving it. I bought it without understanding what I could use it for. I wanted it to make little snowmen. But after watching some of your videos I came up with some other ideas.

    I’ve been using Bohs for a few months now and love it. I bought a large pack of the white and make my own colors using cheap tube watercolor paint. Works great for pastel colors but not if you want high chroma like your yellow and purple in the video. Can’t see myself trying any other brand, really, especially after watching your testing.

      it‘s great to hear your experience! mixing the colors yourself is such a great idea, I didn‘t even think of that 😄 I need to try that! Maybe there‘s a way to make more saturated colors too 🤔

      @@the.sarahworld Probably with more expensive kinds of paints - those with more pigment. Or just use more paint, but I don't know what the "maximum" percentage would be, if any.

      thats a really good question… there is also just pure pigment (which i use for coloring concrete 😅) so thats definitely a video I‘m gonna make :) lets see how much paint/color/pigment foam clay can manage

    • @goilo888
      @goilo888 Před 3 měsíci

      @@the.sarahworld Absolutely. I have tried dry pigment powder once or twice. Wasn’t as successful since it was really difficult to get the pigment load spread evenly through the clay.

      good point, maybe it needs to be dissolved in a bit of liquid before 🤔

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 4 měsíci

      ohnoo don‘t worry! maybe consider sealing your creations with uv resin if they have smaller parts that could break? or combine the brand one with one of the sets and use the harder clay for intricate parts? I‘m happy to help if you have questions! 😊

    Hi, I am finding your videos very helpful, thank you. Please could you let me know how you stick the magnets on? Are they the self adhesive ones or the small metal ones? I'm new to foam clay, and I've found Tacky Glue works great for bonding dry to dry, and wet to dry, but it didn't work when I tried bonding metal to a dried piece. Many thanks x

      @the.sarahworld  Před 4 měsíci

      Hi! 😊 I use Superglue, because it works great with foam clay and I haven‘t had a problem with it yet, the magnets stay on perfectly :)
      Where I come from it‘s also called „Seconds Glue“ because it dries really fast 😅

    Ty for this video. I do have a question for you. What do you do when the clay is too sticky? Looks like its wet bread dough before adding more flour in it.

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 24 dny +1

      normally the one I use is only sticky when I need to use a bit of water with it and after kneading it a while it gets normal again an stops sticking to everything 😅 did you have this problem with foam clay?

    • @becky6997
      @becky6997 Před 24 dny

      @the.sarahworld ty. Big time, I'm just wondering if it's too warm and melted it to a degree. I can use it still, but I have to add paint to it cause I know from the past it starts to get stiff.

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 23 dny +1

      we sometimes get up to 30 degree celsius in the apartment but it didn‘t affect the clay 🤔 but each brand I bought was different from the next so it‘s definitely possible

    Is the Air clay, and Foam clay, the same thing ?

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 3 měsíci +1

      yess, this clay kinda has a few different names and I try to include them all 😅 I think Super soft air dry clay, foam clay and (i think) soft clay are some of them :)

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 4 měsíci

      Sure! It is air dry clay, so you basically just have to wait. depending on the size and thickness I would say about 1-7days also depends a bit how humid your environment is.

    what was your exprience with glazing foam clay?

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 4 měsíci

      It‘s definitely not as easy as something like polymer clay, because water can reactivate the foam clay. But I was very successful with UV resin (czcams.com/video/9-LXmqKCigY/video.htmlsi=wXgc8v6aSO8vb4jg here I talk about it at the end) and I‘m working on a video right now where I show how I glazed them with resin and I also try something like mod podge :)

    Hallo Sarah☺️
    Ich würde das auch gern mal ausprobieren. Wie fühlt es sich nach dem Trocknen an und geht es schnell kaputt? Braucht man einen Kleber? Kann man die Masse einfärben (wenn ja, womit?) Hast Du das schon mal versiegelt? Fragen über Fragen…😂
    Hatte Dir schon mal via Instagram geschrieben. Vielleicht magst Du antworten?
    Liebe Grüße ☺️💖

    • @the.sarahworld
      @the.sarahworld  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hallo Jenny! :) ohhh sorry, ich bin so furchtbar mit Instagram 🙈 (werde das aber mal ernster angehen!)
      Also das Gefühl nach dem trocknen ist wirklich nicht leicht zu beschreiben. Es wird schon ziemlich fest, das Problem ist eher, dass man kleinere Teile leicht abbrechen kann (man kann sie aber mit Draht oder Zahnstocher im Ton verstärken). Und die Oberfläche ist nicht glatt wie anderer Ton, sondern bisschen „fuzzy“ wie Stoff.
      Kleber braucht man nicht unbedingt, der BOHS Ton zB. klebt von alleine und fast alle kann man mit Wasser verbinden. Aber wenn du zwei trockene Teile verbinden willst würde ich Superkleber verwenden, der funktioniert super mit dem Ton :) Eingefärbt hab ich den Ton bisher nur mit anderem, farbigen Ton. Aber das ist eine super Frage eigentlich, das werde ich testen 😁
      Und versiegelt habe ich schon ein paar Teile, hauptsächlich mit UV Resin, das funktioniert echt gut aber ich teste momentan auch andere Materialien. Das nächste Video ist hoffentlich bald fertig, da geht es darum!
      Ich hoffe das hilft 😊 Liebe Grüße!
