As long as Mary Poppins doesn’t break in, I should be fine.

As an alarm installer, we are required to install dual tec motion sensors (PIR+microwave) in UL grade installations like banks. Majority of residential installations use PIR. It can be defeated if you cover your entire body so that it does not detect heat. Crawling on the floor like a snake does not set PIR off. Best to have contacts on all doors and windows as well as a glass break detector

So if there is movement but no heat, it wil not trigger ?

@xcmskim4 how can i add sensors and glass break to my system not purchasing from my alarm company which charges outrageous prices

@xcmskim4 so in your experience where do most burglars and robbers mostly enter the house. I mean what room in the house

I never even knew this. I thought pir was passive inferred, didn't know it detected body heat rather then motion... However if someone breaks in it should trip the window or door contact first, The umbrella trick does work tho.

      @JasonTech  Před 2 lety +1

HI. That right but there's ways around that too. You be safe you should have glass break sensors and EOL (End-of-Line Resistor) on all your contacts.

      Thanks for tips though

Does it work with all motion sensors 🤔

    • @JasonTech

No, just the passive infrared sensor. The one that all alarm companies give you with your alarm systems.

@@JasonTech It means that it only works on a motion sensor, not a full alarm

This will work on your home alarm. Try it, but let your alarm station know that you are going to test your alarm.

Just face the motions towards each other or angled , problem solved, overlapping coverage , door and window sensors are going to nail them anyway, arm interior doors and they can’t enter rooms, plus these days most are using cameras, PDA does not need heat to my knowledge, so use a combination of PIR and PDA

The three motion detectors in the room are not the same motion detector as shown in the test. The one used in the test is a very old motion detector, certainly much older model than the ones displayed at the start and end of the video. This test lacks the specifics to prove true results of the claimed.

      Try it.

@@JasonTech We have to first assume that you can get into the house with the umbrella open because entering the house with the umbrella closed is going to mean this is not going to work from the start because if a motion detector is positioned correctly, it will detect you on entry, full stop. Trying to get through a door or window with an umbrella open like this, it will not fit either and the motion detector will pick you up on entry again anyways, potentially you simply opening the door or window will change the atmosphere state activating the sensor. Going through the man-hole will also not work because you wouldn't be able to fit the umbrella through the manhole in an opened state facing the perfect direction, at all times, for the detector to not pick you up, so you're already detected. The detector being used is very old and not even plugged in with power or working. You're showing no true results, an older detector with out-of-date technology so the comparison is is also flawed. This demonstration lacks the specifics and appropriate comparisons to the displayed motion detectors and is not proving anything faulty with the alarm motion sensor at all.

I have been doing alarm / security for over 20 years. You have no clue what you are talking about. If I do a video on every flaw a alarm system has, there will be a lot of robbery. I have video of a thief, removed a fixed window and walk around the whole house (I'm not going to say what he was wearing) none of the motion detectors picked him up. This video is to show people that there is different types of motion detectors.

@@JasonTech You may have been doing alarms and security for over 20 years but you've been a scientist for 3 minutes. It is you that doesn't know what you're talking about. You're scaring people with flawed demonstrations that their security system is flawed not showing different types of motion detectors. If you're going to demonstrate flaws such as this, do it properly, then we can all have a true discussion about security.
I mean this is all beside the superstitious possibility that opening an umbrella inside gives you bad luck, so the burglar is already set up for failure. :P
