Also various tribes from all over Indonesia, various religions and believes, including local beliefes. Yes, the traffic is crazy here. But we are friendly people and have various delicious dishes. Medan was worse before, robbery has become a common thing in Medan back then. it could happen on the road and public transport in broad day light. My family were born in Medan and we always have that fear wherever we have to go out by motorcycle or public transport even becak, but glad finally we moved to Jakarta when i was 12 years old and could feel the secure living in the town. but the food yeaa, amazing foods!

21:32 The tower you saw earlier is a water tower. Built by the Dutch colonial government to supply water in the Medan city area (Medan old city, Kesawan and surrounding areas). Now the tower is a cultural heritage site and part of the regional water company offices.

I'm very happy with your arrival in North Sumatra, but it's a pity that you didn't explore all the interesting places in North Sumatra, such as Kalimantung, Nias, Sibolga, Bukit Lawang, Sipiso Piso Waterfall, Sibuatan Mountain and many more.
And also culinary delights from various regions and tribes in North Sumatra, such as ombus-ombus, naniura, arsik, napinadar, durian sidikalang and others. It's a pity that you enjoy too much Chinese food even though it's in Indonesian style, but I hope you can get to know North Sumatra even more. so that you know how extraordinary the culture and ethnic diversity that exists in North Sumatra. And the city of Medan is not like what you see in the news, there must be crime everywhere. the media exaggerates it too much. I have been living in Medan since 2000 and it has always been safe.

i've survived driving in all of Java, i've survived driving in Bali with "Bule gila" on Nmax, i've survived Lampung... but Medan... oooh boi Medan.
even when i'm not driving, the GrabCar driver doesn't hesitate to play chicken with oncoming traffic with me on the passenger side. one GrabCar driver i rode with didn't even hesitate to attempt to ram anything and anyone who do counterflow (against one way traffic). i clenched my butt everytime i go there.
even when you are in a government vehicle (red plate) the angkot (Suzuki Carry public transport) in medan doesn't hesitate to start a fistfight. i was with government officials there several time surveying a land for projects (this was before the trans-sumatra highway was built), and everybody from Medan all the way through Sidikalang just doesn't give a damn.
