Watching this in 2023 and your prediction about Sony making this a kit lens is absolutely spot on. 👌
Have been waiting on this exact review/ comparison for a few months now
You were right! I saw this combo in Best Buy last week which led me to this video - which is awesome. Thanks for the great review!
Does it work for vlogging on the a6300?
Oh shiet try the 18-105mm G too pls :3 and how is Chief ?
Youve been getting so much better with the sample video and photo portion of these vids. The editing was really great on this one. Made me feel some type of way :D
Andres Linares I
After a few years with Sony α5000 with kit lens 16-50 and some manual lenses, i finally upgraded to α6400 with 18-135mm mainly thanks to your reviews.
I have to say 18-135 is light years better than kit lens 16-50mm in so many levels, and by far more suitable for so many different photographic scenarios!
You can use it as telephoto for far details, wide open for scenery or landscape and even as great portrait lens with pretty nice bokeh!
My next lens is a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and i think i will be covered for 99.9% of my usage.
Thank you, and keep up the good work!
Curious about a comparison between the 18-135 and the Sony 18-200 LE or the Tamron 18-200..
I only have prime lenses so I was actually excited to hear about it when they announced this new zoom lens.
Finally a review of this lens! thanks man
yo those cinematic were emotional with the music
Excellent as always. Would love to see you compare this with the 18--200 LE.
I think you made one of your best video clips with this one, very nice pictures and cool moments captured ++++++++++
Thanks for the review. As always. Great and informative.
Arthur, I have this lens coming with my a6600. is the zoom ring is harder than focus ring? this is my 1st mirrorless camera so I dont have any experience before with any lens. Thanks in advance for your answer
That’s normal. If the zoom ring is loose, then it will move when you point the lens up or down (lens creep). If the focus ring is too tight, then it’s very hard to make small adjustments when using manual focus. A good focus ring should turn easily and smoothly, but with proper damping.
@@saifaldin_ Good point, I had the 70-300 zoom lens and lens creep was terrible. Gave it to my son, got the 70-200 with internal zoom. I'm happy. I also got its big brother the 200-600 zoom with internal zoom and the 18-105, also with internal zoom. It's incredible how much better the internal zoom is in overall use. No creep, rings turn easily just using finger tips. For shorter zooms in the 10-18 and a little larger, zoom creep is not an issue.
Eh pak disini juga?
@@saifaldin_ thank you for answering, and yes after 2 years, now it is easier to turn the ring
Been waiting on this review!!
Your reviews are simply the best. Thanks so much for all your videos! Continue the great work ; )
alot of information i've got from your channel. and yeah still looking around what kind of lense that i'm gonna buy for my outdoor's hobby
I received this as a kit lens with my a6600. For a kit lens, it is sharp, lightweight, and has a quality feel. It's a great travel lens. For street shooting, setting the lens to about 22mm gives sharp results if you have good light. Overall, if you are buying a Sony camera and this lens is part of a kit, get it. Otherwise, for APSC shooters, I would recommend the Sigma trio of prime lenses instead.
Thanks for the review! Do you think that it's possible to use A6000 + Sony 18-135mm + Zhiyun Crane m?
Great Review. Thanks. How does it perform against the 18-200? Any visible differences?
Great review Arthur... Any recommendation for a lens with similar features (zoom, IO, autofocus etc...) for the a6400 with better low light performance? I would like to use it to film my concerts, but I'm afraid this one won't cut it...
Thanks for the review of 18-135mm, I was waiting for it!!! Just will have to wait for comparison side by side now!!!:))
When you do the 18-135 vs 18-105 please can you include vs the 16-50 kit for a three way comparisson?
I want to want this, but unless the IQ is way above the kit lens I can't see the point (don't really need the zoom)
Finally.... Been waiting for this lens to be reviewed on CZcams.... 😊😊😊
There is other video and articles already out to compare. All of them have different opinions.
You are so right !! Sony we are all waiting for an E-mount 16-50mm F2.8 !!
this combo (body and lens) for a beginner sports photographer and videographer (i also plan on using a gimbal for video) ?
Thanks for this review, I'm buying a A6400 soon for YT vlogging and the kit has a 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 or a 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. Which one will you recommend or can you suggest anything else?
Hi Arthur! Thanks for this video. I bought this lens with a used 6700 for a great price, wondering if I should replace by another such as the 18-50mm 2.8f , or just get another 16mm 1.4f to complement the 18-135... I mostly use for travel and street photography.
I currently have the 18-105mm but during my travels I've noticed I needed something with more reach. I am thinking of either this 18-135mm or getting the 18-200mm. Not sure what your thoughts are on the 18-200mm. As for a f/2.8, I am using the A mount 16-50mm (that you previously reviewed) which has worked very well for me. Any thoughts on the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 that was just announced? Greets from DFW.
On Aug 14, 2022 i watched and enjoyed your review of the Sony 18-135mm f/3.4-4.5 lens. On Aug 3, 2022 I purchased a Sony A6400 with this lens as the kit lens. I also had the choice of the camera with the Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS. I have heard good things about the 18-135. Your review helped boost my confidence that I made a good decision. I have been watching your reviews for a couple of weeks and liked what I have seen. Thanks. Bob Dowell
Hey Arthur, How’s the AF performance of the new 18-135 on the a6000 body? Any other issues we should know about using the new lens on the A6000? Thanks!
I see you were down in Kemah! I’m less than a minute from the boardwalk. Great area. Thanks for the video!
Corey Toms Realtor isn’t Kemah the bird walk near Galveston
Just ordered a a6600 and this is the kit lens just like you guessed. Thanks for the review, it validated my choice of lens.
So since I have been binge watching a lot of your videos, you really have a great eye. Love your review style and your pics and video montages are great. Keep up the great work. BTW, do you have an IG to follow?
I rarely comment but I bought this lens today and it’s aweosme. I wanted a lighter zoom lens and it still has some weight. Love the photos. Clearly better than original kit lens. Other than weight the kit lens now has no use for me. Excellent review as always. You will not be disappointed with this lens if it’s in your future.
Awesome feedback, thank you!
Hi Arthur, thanks for the video, I have this lens with the 6600 together with the 10-18 and the 70-350 in my APSC line up. I must say all does lenses are absolutely top also in comparison to my FF material. The 18-135 is definitely more than a replacement of the kit lens, it is a marvel and delivers a top image quality. The 6600 with al mentioned lenses represents a weight les than mij 200-600mm and covers a FF reach of 15 to 525mm not to forget the 18-135 has als a great macro quality compair to my 100-400. I find myself more and more leaving my FF suff at home.
Are Sony's IBIS and in-lens stabilization compatible? You mentioned having a double benefit of having both, but I always knew that this would cancel each other out. Now when you mentioned it, I did some googling and apparently this bit of info got outdated over the years. Now some of the body/lens stabilizations are compatible. Is this one of them?
Thanks for your review! I look forward to the comparison. 35mm 1.8 prime and this one would be great combo.
czcams.com/video/Riw1uqobvls/video.html
I carry the a6500 with the Sigma 16. I do product photography, rarely any portraits. Glad you are with us in Texas.
I want to take pictures at conventions more. I have a6k, thinking of buying a portrait 50mm. Do you or chat have any recommendations on lenes, lighting, etc..for convention shooting?
Hi! Could you recommend a lens for Sony A6600 to:
-CZcams vlogging (like here 11:05 distance, desk distance), head talking
-universal and portrait (like 18-105 etc.)
Or maybe something universal that can do both.
Could you do a comparation between Sony 18-135 and Sony 16-70?
Thanks in advance
I don’t know if you covered this before but I have a question. I have a Sony a6000. Is there any lens out there that’s 400 mm for the aps-c e mounts? I want to be able to shoot animals and birds from a distance. Also I can’t shoot the moon very well with my 55-210. I’ll probably buy the 1.4 teleconverter but that still only gets me to almost 300 and I’ve read bad reviews on the 2x teleconverter.
Hi, does 18-135mm do nice flur background or I should consider Sony 35mm , 50mm f1.8 or
Sigma 30mm f2.8 for better options?
After seeing all the videos on this thing and your comparison I’m seeing that this thing is quite formidable. Aside from the vignetting issue @18mm which is not really an issue being that it’s 2018 and everyone uses lens correction in post. As long as it gives me the desired end result I’m not going to cry about little things. This lens is very sharp and that’s got to count for something. I got it as my kit lens though so I guess I saved a little money. But I will be getting some nice sigma primes for my faster lens needs tho!
Do you know if the Sony A6400 when shooting a scene can it be paused and then continued without creating another file?
Also does the 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 lens upgrade really produce good video ? How does low light situations with this lens set-up look? What i see here looks just fine.
Some people say it does not look that well--you said 18-105mm is better but I can not find a kit with this lens in it. So can I get by with 18-135mm for everyday video? I know it is not a low light lens.
Hey Arthur, thanks for the video. I do sports photography and videography (cycling, running, and triathlon) and was wondering if you recommend the Sony a6400 + Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS E-Mount Lens?
Im doing the same thing. Also thinking of buying this lens but i would want some lower aperature ;)
Hey love all the videos, very helpful, thank you- one question, if I outgrow my a6000 to an a7 will I want to replace this or is it still going to be a really good option?
Then you will want Tamron 28-75 mm F2.8 ! This could work in crop mode but why not avail the entire full frame sensor to get those professional shots at full 24.2 MP quality ;)
What kind of man greets another man with “Hey love”?
First time see your video,is very detail explain..good job
Arthur I’m super duper ;) to see a comparison between this lens and the Sony 16-55 2.8 gm it seems on the same page in terms of IQ what do you think? Thanks
Hi Arthur would this be suitable for motorsport photography? On a a6300 ? Many thanks
Is there a huge difference from a6000-a6500? Specifically in flash photography?
I’m looking for alternatives to the trending caning7x
wow what a guru now a6400 launched with optional 18-135mm lens option ... your prediction is on point!
Although is useless... The f4 OSS is the same price, and it's a full frame lens.
sir i have sony 6600 with 18-135 lens.. im taking video nature like that ...pls suggest me any wild angle converter for this lens
Hello! could you answer me if this lens is suitable for Sony a58 kit. ???
Do you have trouble getting the extremely up close shots, even in the macro scene selection? Doesn't focus right and it's very grainy
Good review. please compare this lens with zeiss 16-70 f4.
very good job! I learn a lot from you. Thank you!
Can you please recommend a good multi purpose lens for real estate, portraits, and low light?
How is the lens correction by RAW in Lightroom?
Great review Arthur. Thanks for the time you invest in it.
I do have a question. After viewing your other video "If I could only have one lens" regrading the Sigma, I am kind of stumped.
I just picked up the sigma and it is a beast of a lens.
I am fairly new to the game, coming from Gopros and Osmo pocket. I use the cameras for motorcycle travel vlogging, shooting b-roll, product reviews and some talking head videos.
I will be taking some product and trips photos for thumbnails (for which the sigma would be ideal) but that is not my primary reason for the camera.
I just picked up a A6300, which I plan to use mostly for the b-roll, reviews, and talking head vids, and I can't decide if I should keep the sigma 16mm F/1.4 or go with the sony 18-135 for a few bucks more. I am still within the 30 days with Amazon.
The major downside for me with the sigma is no stabilization, and I don't intend on shooting much in low light except for indoors for my reviews, etc.
.Since I will be shooting lots of b-roll, and I would prefer not to have to carry a gimbal as space is limited on motorcycles.
Curious to hear your thoughts.
Have both 16 - 50 and 55 - 210 E mounts, but this lens has that optimal range for those days when I don't wish to carry / keep changing lenses. Optics quality too is superior as compared to 55 - 210. Will get a pre-owned lens this week. Found it listed for $140 on webuy ;-)
Is there any fast E mount zoom lens out there for the A6000? Considering getting into photography, the A6000 looks like a great camera but the lens selection seems to be lacking. Plenty of primes but I'd prefer a zoom lens just for the sake of convenience (eg. if travelling).
How is this lens comparing to the Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC lens in terms of sharpness?
how does this 18-135 compare to the tamron 17-70 and which would u prefer?
This needs to be bundled as a kit lens for the Sony 6000 series to really shine. That being said, this lens got a lot of hate when it was announced, but I actually think it's a solid release. For lots of people, this will be the only lens they'll need, and IQ seems superior to the 16-50. I jumped ship to Fuji before this was released, but the quality of this lens seems to be on par with Fuji kit lenses! EDIT: There are a lot of keepers in the montage, but 5:38 is a phenomenal image!!
The problem is the price. It's more expensive than the more premium 18-105 f4 lens, which is a G lens.
Couldn’t agree more
@TechnologyMafia do you sell any of your lenses?
Witch lens should I get for automotive photography ?
Hi Arthur - If I was going to get this lens for my Sony A6400, or the Sigma 16mm f1.4, which would you recommend at the end of the day? You touched upon it in the video, but could say what the benefits of each are? Thanks!!!
It depends entirely on how you plan to use them. One is a wide, slightly heavy fast prime. The other is a compact and light zoom lens with decent aperture range for daytime shooting. What I’m trying to say is: these are very different lenses, for very different use cases.
Looking forward to the comparison between the two. I'm off to Italy in August and plan to buy one or the other. I love my 35mm prime but need a little more reach for that trip.
I did pictures in Rome with my Sigma 60mm (Love it!) my 19mm (Also love it) bus it was not practical because when you visit there is so much to see and he time is short. So I miss some shot just by the time to change lenses; a zoom in that travel would be better and faster. My wife sometimes lost patience by waiting.
I just bought and received a used copy of this lens based your excellent review. The lens doesn't display its focal local in the evf. It is a useful feature that is in my only other zoom lens, the 16-50mm kit lens? I would like to have it if it's not broken on my copy. Do you recall seeing that displayed in your copy?
Could it be smaller than the 18-105 because Sony factors in some digital zoom with the electronics, it not all zoom from the glass?
How does this compare to the newer Sigma 18-50. Having a child soon and debating about swapping this for the Sigma zoom or the keeping this and picking up the Sigma 56mm F1.4. I am not backpacking the world currently so no need for the uber zoom, but I would like the sigma 18-50 to be a step up as I found this zoom to lack in sharpness vs my sigma 30mm.
Pls compare this Lens with the Zeiss 16-70
what wide angle lens you would suggest for Sony a6400 daily vloggin?
Wow i had no idea you were in Austin for as long as I’ve been watching your videos!
I noticed kemah in the broll, and was like woah! Whats he doing over here! Haha
Hello.. Can we use this lens for sports photography?
Should I go for this lens over the 16-70 F4 Zeiss? If i have the options for about the same price :)
great prediction on this being the kit lens on a6xxx series!
I have Dreamed for buying this lenses kit
This is the lens I got as a kit lens with my a6600.
Kitne ka pda
@@ammorewaria111 when I received this lens and camera combo it was I think rupees 136k now the prices have really shot up.
@@kapilesh14why has the price gone up ⬆️ recently?
What a nice piece of glass. Have you had experience with the Sony 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Tessar T* FE ZA OSS - E-mount NEX Series Full Frame - Digital SLR Zoom Lens?
Thanks for the video, I have a6500+sigma 16
Now looking for telephoto lens which lens you pepefer 18-105 ,18-135 or 55-210.
55-210 is the only telephoto lens on the list! Plus its $100 used, so its a deal! 18-135 is the sharpest in the center, 18-105 is best for video and sharpest in the corners.
I recently sold the 18-105, keeping the 18-135. If my primary environment is outdoor or brightly lit indoor ill grab the 18-135 for its small size and weight. It was a great lens for a recent Grand Canyon trip. For lower light ill use the 18-50 f2.8.
I thought the same. Though I am selling the 18-135 for the 18-50 F2.8. If I see myself really needing the 50mm+ I may pick up cheap 55-210 sony zoom or the 85mm prime
I still feel the same that the 18-105 and 18-135 are roughly equivalent in terms of image quality. I currenlty own 6 lenses and consider this 18-135 the worst of the bunch. It's tempting to grab this lens but at the end of the day I'm disapointed. I would sell it but there isn't anything better out there to replace it.
I'd like to see Sigma or Tamron come out with a 16-135 f2.8 or f4. Something sharper at least.
I have the Sigma 18-50 2.8 which is wonderful but I still want more reach.
Can you do a comparison between 18-135 and 16-70mm f4. Love to see that, thanks
I love to see
Good morning pal, and about the OSS? Because i'm using the kit lens of a6400 and with the OSS ON or OFF i see no difference making videos =/... Its being very shaky =( ! Plz, help-me, i don't want to buy a gimbal hehe
DK oss will help with jitter when you don’t have ibis, you will also need a gimbal for any video involving movement
Bought the 18-135 with the a6400 body a few years ago. It's been a great lens to learn with. Now I'm slowly getting other lenses. Recently bought the Tamron 11-20 and now saving for a telephoto lens (probably the Sony 70-350). At some point, I will replace the 18-135 with something that is better in low light but I have really liked it and would recommend it as an all around, travel lens.
I’m thinking about buying a6400, do you recommend it?
@@zuzannamta7501 Yep, great reliable little camera.
Funny that I’m from Houston. I thought I was tripping when I saw the shots at Kemah.
Sir, can you do a comparison video for Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS E-Mount Lens and Tamron 17-70mm F-2.8?
I just bought a6700 with 16-50 kit lens. Didn’t get the 18-135 kit lens as i thought 16-50 is just perfect for compact travel photography. Will get a used 18-135 soon for simple events photoshoots
I do wish I could have received this with my a6300 instead of the 16-50. But seeing both this and the 18-105 in your video, I think I will still opt for the 18-105 as my choice for an upgrade when the time comes. Looking forward to a comparison, though!
Which one better, sel 18-105 or 18-135, if, I usually use small aperture between F/8 and F/16 for landscape photography, Now I am using samyang 12mm than sel 10-18 because of your great reviews.. But for landscape in traveling sometimes I need All around lens for landscape shooting at more than 70 focal length... Which one better I choose? Sel 18 105 or 18-135?
Do you still recommend this lens or are there better options with similar range (and price)?
Is this good for lnadscape photography?
If you had to choose between Zeiss 16-70 f4 and Sony 18-135, what is better picture quality?
When shooting on an a6000/a6400 did the lenses with out stabilization work ok hand held? Or is it better to get a stabilized lense if no ibis
Even with relatively short focal distances, say 35 or 50mm, the shake would be quite noticeable without some sort of stabilisation.
Good demo of capabilities for this new ‘kit’ candidate. With the latest .01 update for the a6300, it is ready to rock for JPG shooters. Performs up to its price tag and beyond compared to the 18-105 and 16-50. Better optically than a number of Sony’s zoom lenses and with care for its lightweight build quality should provide the enthusiast a wide range of subject coverage in good light.
My testing shows best performance at wide open to 2 stops down for excellent centers throughout. Softness in the corners - not edges - as you go to 135 but stopping down to f8 is your final stop. Beyond f8 it diffracts quickly but useably. OSS works very well to around 1/5th for me and bokeh is average at best but there to work with. I added a rubber grip to mine for easier zooming but it is smooth enough as-is. AF is quick on the aXXXX bodies and more dependent on your shooting style/ability.
As an a6300 user without OSS onboard, I expect to enjoy this glass for a long time to come.
Omg, you were at Kemah. So close to me, I would of freaked out lol
Finally got it in a reasonable 2nd hand price to fill up the gap of my travel combination(E10-18 & FE200-600)
18-105 would be an excellent lens if not for power zoom. Maybe I am wrong and it will last a long time, but I strongly doubt it. Sony is right on the money with compact super zoom. I'll definitely be looking for one used on ebay. My 6500 is generally good up to 6400 ISO, so 5.6 on slow end is no issue.
Please do a video comparing Sony kit lens 16-50 vs 18-135!
