Back when every Disney movie had a carefully crafted intro and theme song specific to the movie's premise!
Agreed.
Agreed, plus the for now for always theme is in the intro and we don’t hear again til Boston and when Mitch and Maggie have romantic moments
The intro to The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes makes me cry
You mean like Pollyanna? Emil and the Detectives? 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea?
N.E.R.D.
In loving memory of: *MAUREEN O'HARA*. Died, October 24, 2015.
I loved her in this one as well as Miracle on 34th Street
A loss !!
She lived quite a life for sure. 95 is quite great!
Probably one of the most addictively appealing openings to a movie in existence, both musically and visually.
I never realized until now that in the original version, Susan had been to the camp before, and it was only Sharon who was there for the first time. In the newer version, both Hallie and Annie are there for the first time.
And I thought Susan wasn’t going to go back a third time
Yeah there are a lot of subtle difference throughout both although both plots are very similar. A big one is the difference in the names of the girls and that Sharon was from boston mass and annie was from London England.
Fun fact: The Parent Trap came out in the same year as One hundred and one Dalmatians.
Another fun fact: The Richardson Sisters, Joely and Natasha (God Bless her), starred in remakes of both films, both 30+ years apart from the originals. It's also interesting how you can tell that the name "Cruella", is mentioned a few times in '98, as a tribute to Natasha's sister's movie role enemy.
as well as Babes in Toyland. 1961.
I think that kinda explain why the twins calls Meredith cruella
1961 ?? 😲
That’s right!
I used to watch this a lot growing up in the 90s! Still a Disney classic today.
Honestly, this animated opening was always my favorite part of the movie.
You Gotta love, Annette Funicello's singing the into in this movie. What a Voice!
The late and great Annette (1942-2013).
At the time, it felt like Annette was just leaving Disney, and Hayley Mills was becoming the new “it girl” at the studio.
Reading Mills’ memoirs, I had no idea that she had been offered a multi-picture deal that happened over the course of her teen years.
"My voice is very small, with a range of about three notes!” - Annette Funicello being a modest sweetheart as usual
My grandma got me into this when i was so young and I prefer this version over the Lohan-was so much more authentic
I prefer both I love the 90s one it's better in my opinion
RIP Joanna Barnes 1934-2022
She died this week
How "ghastly." Watch Auntie Mame (1958) and you'll know what I mean lol
I always loved this sassy song and opening for a very entertaining movie!
Me too now since I just watched it for the first time today.
“ if the shoe fits, wear it” love that sassy line from Sharon
I agree with you on that.
I was born in 2000 but grew up watching this and the opening title sequence will always make me smile
I was born in 1993
I was born in 2008.
I am an '02 baby right here!
@@theoneandonlymem432 Where are you at?
@@memeheart3985 I don't share my location.
this version you can tell why they divorced vs the new version they didn't have issues except that they were too young at the time to be married
Adrianna De Vega what are you talking about? They where married
I re-watched the original version for the first time in a long time last year. I had forgotten that the dance was the reason for the demerit system in that one.
Also in the newer one it was simply a misunderstanding: Elizabeth had actually EXPECTED Nick to come after them, but Nick did not realize this.
Yes, and honestly - you can tell why they shouldn’t get remarried.
I’ve always loved The Parent Trap ‘61, quite a lot, since it was one of the best live-action Walt Disney films ever made, while he was around.
Truthfully, I was never aware of this version, until watching it on TV, many years ago, after seeing ‘98, a handful of times. I was pretty much into both of them, but I adored the one with Hayley Mills (such a shame for her not to be a part of ‘98) a little more than Lindsey Lohan.
No matter what, both of them had such phenomenal and outstanding performances. Even Mills thought Lohan’s take was wonderful, too!
these intro's where everything!
Where?
And they're catchy to in a good way of course
RIP Annette Funicello.
She had multiple sclerosis for over two decades and eventually succumbed to the illness at 70.
I love this intro. Only Disney movies of that time had them. It can even work as a little prologue
How am I just learning this is a Disney movie
The remake couldn't hold a candle to the original of this movie.
I know right! And everyone thinks the remake one is SO great
the remake is great it's one of the best movies out there it's funny. Me and My Mom love it. What's Wrong with you people?
The original is the best! I love Maureen and Hayley together!
Even the director of the remake said that. She said she wasn't trying to compete with the Disney classic. There were little instances in the remake were the director paid homage to the original. The actress that played the original Vicky had a cameo part as Vicky's mom. Once you can hear one of the "twins" singing to herself "Let's Get Together". Even you can hear that motif in the music.
I so resent that
One of the best movies!
Saw it as a kid and several times since. Full of that Disney magic and zest of life.
Im so happy we have the internet to look up old stuff like this. I'll be able to watch this many years into the future and be reminded of my mom as this is one of her favorite movies.
I'm not a big stop motion fan but this is one cool way to set the tone for the movie. Also, this wasn't part of my childhood like Lindsay Lohan's version but am I the only one who loves this original Parent Trap equally as the remake?
You're not the only one, I actually like this one better than the remake.
Samantha Buss I said I like them both equally.
+Samantha Buss but i like the remake lindsay lohan is very beautiful
Definitely not. I love both. They're not that different really, but just different enough.
+MistyeyedNStarrified ok :)
Okay, so there's a different version that seems to be more popular, but THIS is the version of The Parent Trap I grew up with.
Walt Disney had a knack for finding talented artists to work on his films. The Sherman brothers wrote the songs for this movie and Mary Poppins. Both scored very well, also kinda interesting this is the exact same film transfer used since the early 80s by RCA/Disney just touched up a bit. My RCA VideoDisc has film artifacts in the exact same spots.
david archuleta
Remake, obviusly.
This movie is such a great classic! One of my favorites. My mom showed this to me as a kid, I will always hold this movie close to my heart ❤️
I just watched it today. I loved it.
I didn’t watch it until I was almost 19. My senior year
Ah, I am 23.
@@blue-sea8901 I’m 28 now
Cool.
Amo este intro. Solo las pelis Disney de esa época las los tenían. Incluso puede funcionar como un pequeño prólogo
2021 marks the film's 60th anniversary. I remember watching this on video as far back as when I was 3.
I didn’t see it until I was almost 19
One of the Disney classics I grew up with (35 now).
Best opening title sequence of all the Disney movies IMO......
I love seeing the opening titles, which were never used when I watched the movie on “The Wonderful World of Disney” growing up.
I like the intro and the remake a lot more when the song "Love" plays
Love this movie, watched it all the time as a kid before the lindsay lohan version came out. I like it better.
Do you mind if I ask why?
@@ryanwilliamthompson3363 I think it’s funnier, better acted, better made.
The original was so much better!
Mewesical uh no the average rating of the remake is more higher than the original just search rotten tomatoes
jyyugug uug What happened to liking the movie yourself, instead of reading reviews and judging based on them AND your own opinion?
If you are talking ORIGINAL you should know the first movie version was the German one from 1950 just one year after Erich Kästner had finished the novel But I have to confess I think both American versions were funnier.
@@jyyuguguug9015 hahahahaha yes drug head lead actresses and "strip poker" make the remake that much better than the amazing acting and plot of the original
@@ashyketchup5003 for me the Remake is great. But this is great too
The cutest Disney film i’ve seen since Fantasia 2000.
I agree.
Haley was a vibrant prefessional. Always absolutely loved her accent
I don't know why but Back To The Future reminds me of The Parent's Trap. Thank you. Best of luck. From Virginia Clark. 😀🐦🌸🍓🐶🦋🐮
Brilliant
I miss this theme so desperately!
Amo el intro de the parent trap
Me and my cousins were extras in the film The camp sequences in the beginning of the film.
Just heard the sad news about Joanna Barnes. RIP Vicki
That leaves Haley Mills as the only surviving cast member of the original Parent Trap
Tremenda orquesta.
Too good! Love it! Great movie and Great theme song!!!
I agree with you.👍
@@blue-sea8901 It was made during a happier time. Society is a lot meaner since then.
I see.

@@ericseal4453 The 90’s were a bit happier too
Iconic af.
I want to watch this movie! I'm getting this on DVD, So I can watch this along with Pollyanna (1960). Update: I GOT POLLYANNA (1960) & THE PARENT TRAP (1961) ON DVD!

2018 or 2019
I remember watching the original movie in online and on The Byu Channel.
2020
When I was in high school, my teacher Ms. Brock mentioned the song from the '61 movie called Let's Get Together.
I watched and listened to the song.
2021
I watched this sequence for this assignment for Animation Class which is to describe how it was made.
that song though at 0:18
Opening credits had tears
Bless our Broken Home.
Bless our Broken Home renamed to Bless our Happy Home in The Parent Trap!
This is one of the oldest movies I've seen and that was back in 1990! And it's still better than the remake. Nothing against Natasha Richardson (she was fun to watch in that version) but some movies can't be remade with the same fun and charm even if the cast are top-notch.
PS: pause the clip at 3:00 - look on the credits on the right side of the screen. Remember the Mouseketeers? Yep, Tommy and Annette!! I THOUGHT those voices in the opening song sounded familiar!
Thanks for that. I've probably watched this movie 1000 times and never knew that. (Seriously 100 times)
+largol33t1 you are right its Annette, but its not Tommy Cole from the mickey mouse club 1950s..its Tommy sands..they both kind of sound alike....
largol33t1 Yeah, I saw that too! But I recognized Annette's voice right away!
I thought it was Frankie Avalon. Oops.
Have you ever seen 1961's Babes in Toyland movie? Tommy and Annette starred together as Tom and Mary!
at minute 1:52 the "don't be a square" of Mia Wallace (Pulp Fiction) also "The Flintstones: The Girls Night Out" (1961)
I was only four when this movie came out, so I probably didn't see it until many years later, but by the time I did I was old enough to fall in love with Halley Mills.
However, for the life of me I can't remember ever seeing this part.
Great original Disney movie. Had it on a Vault Disney DVD which stopped playing. Today's Disney wanted nearly 20 dollars to replace their faulty product. Gone is the integrity and values Walt Disney had.
John and Marsha are the most '60s names ever! 🤣🤣
I ❤️ this movie.
Me too now.💙
Me three! 😉
Released on Blu-ray +DVD +Digital Code and DVD and 4k Ultra HD
We stan this opening from when we were all kids
This is a great f***ing foot tapping tune
I recently learned that Muppeteer Dave Goelz aka Gonzo was an extra during the boys camp visit scene.
original vs remake the parent trap (1961) vs the parent trap (1998) just vote which one you like hayley mills or lindsay lohan
The original, hands down!
Basti Zarate remake wins
+jyyugug uug agreed. The characters were just more likeable there.
tripp cory I totally agree because the average rating of the remake is more higher than the original
Basti Zarate Hayley Mills of course!
I never understood the beginning of these intros
When Annette Funicello got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, her days were numbered... all the way up to number 25736.
RIP Annette (1942-2013)

Even though the 60’s and 90’s one are corny at least they’re good for something
In the end Bless Our Happy Home
Yep, they were married again.
@@blue-sea8901 Right, they are remarried (or married twice).
Right.
love hayley mills
Is the John.... Marsha line a reference to Stan Freberg's comedy satire of soap operas under the same title?
whatever it is, it doesn't belong in this movie theme
"Bless our broken home" #YIKES
But now, Bless our Broken Home renamed to Bless our Happy Home in The Parent Trap!
So, these opening credits are what inspired the "Equestria" font?
Was there a remake starring the Olsen twins? There *should* have been!
There was something like called, “It Takes Two” starring the Olsen twins. Plot was going to be like the Parent Trap but the creators had trouble getting copyrights so they created a similar plot for in their movie.
@@FarahA27 It Takes Two is good but I wouldn’t call it on the Parent Traps level
wtf?!?
Future Muppeteer Dave Goelz was in the background in the dance scene.
I was today years old when I learned Leo G. Carroll was in the original Parent Trap, that's what I get for not watching the older Disney stuff apparently.

Does anyone know what the song from 0:17 - 0:50 is called, and where I can find it? Thank You.

What did that newspaper headline say? "Walt Disney named manager of Angels"?
RetroWinnipeg I think it says that. Like the fake name of a basketball team. Never noticed it. Interesting lol.
RetroWinnipeg Yes, it said "WALT DISNEY NAMED MANAGER OF ANGELS" Ironically, 36 years after "The Parent Trap" Hayley Mills version was released, The Walt Disney Company bought the then-Anaheim Angels in 1997, however, Disney sold the Angels to its current owner Arte Moreno in 2003.
It's Bill Rigney. He was the manager of the Angels at the time.

Another wonderful animated title sequence by Walt Disney's talented animators! (In this case, T. Hee, Bill Justice, and Xavier Atencio.) The last B&W episode of the DISNEYLAND TV series (aired 10 days before the movie was released) had a cute behind-the-scenes look at the making of this sequence (and even of Tommy Sands and Annette Funicello doing the theme song)!
