    Wow, I was amazed that y'all painted the cabinets the first time. Not because they were the natural wood but because its a small space and you live there! Its a job to paint them and live in a house and still function and so much more in the RV and with a dog! So when they didn't turn out the way they were supposed to I was disappointed with you!! Not being a fan of re-work I felt your pain at having to do them again. I hope it was easier because you were at the RV park. Im so happy to see how they turned out and even more glad that you love them now. Not fun to have to live in the dark because of ugly cabinets! Glad you're back on the road too. Have fun and be safe! And as always you have enriched our community by sharing your experiences with us.THANK YOU!!!!😁💙

    I am the person that has updated the Kenwood. The biggest issue was the need for a blank SD Card to go in the Kenwood. Wasn't expecting that, but once I had that in hand the update was easy. Message me if you need any assistance, happy to help you guys out, love watching you every Saturday!

    Phil: We find that applying Rain-X Glass Treatment helps with water, ice removal, and bug removal. The bug juice gets into the micro holes in the surface of the glass, which makes it hard to clean. Rain-X fills the micro holes in the surface of the glass with optical grade stuff, so the bug juice stays on the surface and is way easier to clean off. Same principle for water and ice too.
    Rain-X comes in a spray bottle, squirt bottle, and as a windshield washer fluid.
    We apply from a spray bottle a few times per year, or when it’s not working as good as we wanted, whichever comes first.

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  Pƙed 4 lety +3

      I am not suppose to use Rain X on the windshield as I have the Diamond Shield coating on my front cap. It will cause it to turn color and eventually need to be replaced.

      @@todayissomeday Good to know. I've "heard" good things about spraying hydrogen peroxide on the window's first - even for 30 seconds before cleaning, to help make bug removal a lot easier. No road trips for me since last summer, otherwise I would have tried it too.

    Well I don't want to curse us again but we had a showing at 6 p.m. and while we were getting ready for that one we had another couple drive and looked at our ranch. Fingers crossed and more prayers if this is to be something will come of it this time and stick with no defaults. Glad to see the cabinets came out and that you two are on the road again and getting out of our 100 degree plus temps! I also chuckled when I saw your co-driver in the jeep. 😊 Maybe we'll join you all sooner than later now. As long as they don't default again.

    The cabinets look terrific! You really nailed the color this time. Looking at the undertones, and being sure that color related to something else in the room, is exactly what you needed to do. Great job!
    You did actually have a blue grey before, but it looked terrible because it *didn’t* relate to anything else in the space. It was more blue than grey, but all with a slightly green undertone. A different shade of blue might have worked very well, especially if it had leaned a touch towards the violet end of the spectrum.
    Lighting, and especially all the brown, which has a bit of an orange undertone, brought out the blue in the paint, since orange and blue are complementary colors (opposite each other on the color wheel). But orange and that slight green just... didn’t do anything for one another. The yellowish floor definitely didn’t help, either, because it helped in creating a slightly greenish cast - because, of course, yellow plus blue makes green. In short, there was a lot going on there that was just clashing. The right blue could have been beautiful; brown and blue is a classic and very sophisticated combination. Grey and brown together *can* be made to work, sort of, if done right, but you didn’t have the necessary elements. Basically, you had a much more complicated color situation there than you had realized ;-)
    I can’t remember if you used a primer or not, but some primer colors, and certainly the underlying color of the surface being painted, can greatly affect the final color as well, especially if an inexpensive brand of paint is used and only one coat. They just don’t have as much pigment in them as the better brands. Less pigment means poorer coverage means more bleed-through of the original color, which is why many brands require 2-3-4 coats or more to fully and evenly cover.
    The thing about paint in general that people usually don’t realize, and what really caught you guys, is that those color “samples” are printed, not actual paint, and those are two different technologies with different color spectra that can’t fully duplicate each other.
    What this difference in technology means is that what is going to actually end up on the wall is virtually never going to exactly match the sample, especially once it’s up against the colors on adjacent walls, flooring, and furniture.
    As you found out, sometimes that difference is pretty extreme.
    The best way to be sure of what you are actually going to get is to buy a sample pot of the color you are interested in, and just try a swatch or three. Those little “sample” cards should only be viewed as a starting point, from which you adjust as needed. With you guys, I think your eye is good enough that you would have caught the problem like this.

    • @wendyannh
      @wendyannh Pƙed 4 lety +1

      I hope that doesn’t read as any sort of castigation. I was just trying to explain *why* the first color looked so terrible and the new one totally works, and a little bit of general color and paint education to try to save others the same problems that you encountered.

Last year leaving Ballinger TX on the way to Sweetwater, "Maps" took us on a "shortcut" across country. on a couple of Texas Farm to Market roads that were very narrow. Lesson learned - review the entire route and make the adjustments before putting the truck in drive!!
    Final observation, your hydraulics must be rock solid as I'm surprised you didn't have to re-level at least once while you were parked for that long.

    Phil: This summer I applied a ceramic coating to my tow vehicle and our RV. I got this idea from Martin at RVSTREET to use a soap cannon with my pressure washer and soap from “The Chemical Guys”. After a trip I can just foam the surfaces, let it sit for a few minutes, rinse it off and then towel it dry. All but the very worst bugs come off without even rubbing. The ceramic coating works on clear coat, glass, fiberglass, and plastic. The soap has a PH of 7.0 (neutral) and it will not harm your decals or your paint. It has made cleaning our Rv a breeze.

    Cabinets look great! Nice job. Agreed that blue was horrible. Ha
    Typically the lower cabinets are darker than the upper when doing the new trendy look. I would paint the upper cabinets now as well, especially since you don’t have a kitchen window... would really brighten things up further and tie it all together --and I think would look original down the road if you go to sell. Cheers from Bermuda! I enjoy your videos...

    We are from Texas and have camped at both Coleman and Lake Arrowhead. We really like Lake Arrowhead. It's good for group camping. Because of Covid, it was difficult to make reservations at Texas State parks because they were shut down for a while. I'm sure it will pick up soon.

    Our RV had a problem that ruined the underlying floor bracing, subfloors and flooring. We’re stuck at home another 6 weeks or so until the repairs are complete. And, we’re in Central Florida so it’s so so so hot and I’m having to hibernate until we can get to the mountains! Can’t wait till we, too, can hit the road!!!

    So we have the same Kenwood Stereo. It’s sort of a pain to download the Garmin update tool on your laptop. But once you do that it’s just a mater of putting the update on a SD card and then plugging it into the stereo. You leave that card in the stereo and it reads your map data off that. Once you’ve done it once it should be really easy to do after that. We have the 770 also and use that as our primary GPS. I use Waze on my phone as a tertiary GPS for traffic and hazards.
    The cabinets came out great!
    Great update on the slides. We’ve been sitting for about a month now and we’ll probably be sitting for at least another month. Great to know it’s a simple fix if we have that problem. Thx!

    • @usahome
      @usahome Pƙed 4 lety

      FYI the SD card method for updating is not a trick - It’s the only way you can update that kenwood. I have the same head unit in my 2018 Tiffin Open Road Allegro and I have updated the firmware as well as the Map. You need a 32GB Micro SD card formatted to (very important) FAT32 in order to make it all work. You actually put the Micro SD card in the kenwood first - this will put a unique ID into the Micro SD card, then remove the card and put it into your laptop and download the update from the kenwood website. You will also want to update the firmware on your kenwood before you install your new maps. It’s actually easy and can be done with a MAC or PC laptop. Feel free to shoot me a message if you need a step by step walkthrough. It will take about 20-30 minutes to complete. Also, love the new color of the kitchen cabinets!

    Like you, we use the Garmin 770 as primary and the in dash as back-up. I have used WAZE in the past and especially out west found it very unreliable. Doesn't account for vehicle size or weights and takes lots of "shortcuts" through middle of towns and neighborhoods. I don't use it all any more for that reason.

    Gray can be a hard color, there is no true gray - we were told:
    Gray- with blue undertones
    Gray-green
    gray-purple/red/pink
    gray-yellow/brown
    We twice painted our bathroom with different grays we liked only to feel like the more we looked at it the bluer it got:/ so we stopped looking at gray/blue even though we thought they were the prettiest swatches, and went with a gray/green undertone and LOVE it , to me they look gray!!!!!! I never see green. Hope this helps anyone else that is gonna paint something gray. The off white looks really nice BTW :)

    I still don't understand why you painted perfectly good varnished cabinets, but there's a lot of things I don't understand. I like the color they are now better than the whatever it used to be and it sounds like you do too. Maybe I can hook up with Phil and his wife for the horse barn thing. We have a purchase agreement on our house and as long as the inspection goes OK tomorrow it should be sold but October 1st. Then an RV right after the first of the year. Keep the good stuff coming.
