Korean Air B747-400 Flight Experience: KE1229 Gimpo to Jeju

- It was a dream come true for me to fly Korean Air's B747-400 aircraft on a domestic flight between Seoul - Gimpo (GMP) to Jeju (CJU).
The flight was packed with holidaymakers but service was cheerful and courteous throughout the flight (and the crew are so beautiful ;) ). It was a very nice experience with Korean Air.

Yes, the announcements were very, very soft (had to max out the volume of the clip but its still too soft >_< ) I don't know why. Can't hear anything during the safety demo too, and forget about the Captain's address to the passengers on the flight details. Inaudible at all! Quite sad actually, because I do love hearing inflight announcements. Anyway, thank you, very much for watching, glad you enjoyed it!

Well, Gimpo is primarily a domestic airport but it does have scheduled international flights to Japan, China and Taiwan. :D And yes, its a modest airport, great for spotting planes though!

Summer of 2012 I flew Korean Air B777-200 Dallas to Seoul and then Seoul to Beijing! Was the best feeling I've ever had flying. Service was amzaing and Korean Air is the best in the sky. Glad you got fly with them. It was also a dream to come true for me to fly with them. Dreams do come true. Can't wait to fly with them.
Hi Mario, I felt eating out in restaurants isn't so expensive in Korea (slightly cheaper than restaurants in Singapore), and definately, Korea will be less expensive than Japan. Subway is not expensive too, about USD1 for a single ride for short distances. Thank you always, for watching my videos!
Korean air is one of the best airlines for sure!
I guess Seoul to Jeju is still a major trunk route with many departures throughout the day, might be alot of capacity for Incheon to handle.
Also, yes, only a drink service is offered as the scheduled flight time is 1h 5mins, compared to a relatively longer flight time of 1h 25mins (I believe) from BKK-HKT.
Overall, the crew were very cheerful and very polite. Great service on this short sector!

Hellos, there was just a drink service (with soda, juices and water) on this short flight actually, as it is just 52mins in actual flight duration!
I didn't know you love watching planes too! It was my favourite thing to do when I was young! :) But yes, larger planes are so much better to look at than the boring B737s and A320s :p haha

Yupyup you're right. I wanted to visit beautiful Jeju but to be able to fly the B744 on this short sector really is too irresistable! It was a great trip and I was so happy, and still am!

A380 is the BESTTTT for Korean Air. I'm more of an Asiana Airlines person but Korean Air is still awesome. Muchhh better serice and flight attendants (including appearance) then any airlines around the world. Both Korean and Asiana

I like several commercial airliners, but the B747-All Series will always be my favorite. Thanks for sharing your flight experience.
If you like the 747-400, check out air force one, I think it is a 747-200 or 300, you are gonna change your favorite aircraft, that aircraft shows the full potential of a legend like that.
Wow. Thanks for that!!! Really brought back memories of my nearly 2 years in Korea in the late 1980s when Gimpo (Kimpo then) was the ONLY airport in Seoul. The terminal you left out of opened when I was there. I want to go back!!!!!!
I probably belong to the older generation who still are in love with the B744. Most glad you like the A380 though! :)
It was the biggest plane around when I was young! I've never gotten used to the A380 lol. The B744 will always be the Queen of the Skies for me!

I guess there are alot of domestic Korean tourists to Jeju to justify utilising the B744 (I believe 6 flights per day on the B744 during this period!).
Nice flight! Fun fact: This plane HL-7489 was delivered from Boeing on January 18 1994.

yes apparently, anything from an B737 to a B747 is deployed on the domestic trunk route between Seoul and Jeju.
They seem very good on this short domestic sector.

KE has always operated B773s to SIN on a regular basis. I believe you must have taken the B744 during the december school vacation right? KE upgauged their aircraft usually during that time to cater to the hordes of Singaporean tourists heading to Korea for their winter holiday!

Korean does justice to the cabin interior. What's more, the carrier has ordered 10 747-8s according to wikipedia, so we'll be seeing more of the baby blue coloured jets for some time yet!

You must of been really excited while boarding the Boeing 747. This is my favorite plane, and I hope to board my first one next year. The thought of boarding one gets me all excited.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Korea, particularly Seoul, where it is so easy to get around via subway and good and inexpensive restaurants are everywhere. It is also a shopaholic's dream too! I want to go back! :)
I thought there might be some domestic flights to Jeju from Incheon but perhaps, your dad must take the train to Gimpo airport to catch a flight there. There are dozens of flights throughout the day to Jeju!

Rather mild ones actually. Only recalled an incident on a JAL B767 from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore which was shaking so bad a woman screamed!

indeed a B744 on an one hour flight is not common but I guess it might be a peak season for travelling to Jeju and the traffic demand is there!
As always, great video! As for the PA being soft; I have noticed this on Korean Air A330-300 in the past too, I think it may just be how they tune their PA systems.
I LOVE THE JUMBO 747. I HAVE ADORED THIS TYPE OF A/C SINCE I WAS A CHILD. JUST LOVE IT..UNBEATABLE.

i agree, considering how the flight was almost full in Economy, maybe the plane didn't carry much fuel since it was just a domestic flight which allowed a quick lift-off!

Thats a pretty fast take off..
its pretty common in Asia for airlines to use wide body aircrafts on short hops. Singapore flies the 777 from Singapore to Vietnam for example.
