Installing an hour meter is a great way to keep track of your maintenance on a generator. Between oil changes, air filters, valve clearance checks, spark arrestor cleaning; a lot needs to be maintained and the hour meter will help keep things on track.
I used an induction hour meter which means that you have to wrap a wire around the spark plug and then the hour meter can read the electricity feeding to the spark plug while the generator is running.
I chose this hour meter over the vibration style for peace of mind. For I feared that the rattle of my truck may set off the vibration (anyone with a diesel knows what I’m talking about). And with how simple it is to install, you might as well run the wire.
I’m not super stoked with where I ended up installing the meter and I suggested mounting it a bit higher onto the top of the case. This would avoid having to remove the wire every time that you open the side case. Also, the wire would have a short travel distance.
    Learn from my mistakes!

They say to wrap it around 5 times, I only wrapped mine around twice on all my Generators and they all work just fine. Love the channel and all the videos. Keep them coming.

I may have only wrapped it 2-3 times. Haha it’s a tight space to wrap more then that!
      Thank you for the support!!

@Soup Can worked fine for me! Still works though I haven’t put many hours on it over the last couple years.

Wrong location for the hour meter. Now you have to remove the wire and reinstall every time when changing oil. Also, run the wire through some other place but not the spark plug cover - may be around rubber cover near gas cap. This would prevent a potential water dripping onto the spark plug in bad weather.

Thank you for making a video that shows exactly how NOT to install an hour meter.

@@Svaren I was poking fun. It did help me because I was planning to do something similar but, instead, ran the wire through the vent below the plugs on my 2200 Yamaha.
