And this goes both ways, hard to compare Kobe to Duncan or Kobe to Duncan on a "what did he do in his first year basis?" There just worlds apart on where they started. Well, he also had a former MVP and scoring champion champion as his running mate. Remember, the Spurs landed Duncan because David Robinson got hurt like 6 games into the 96-97 season... he missed the rest of the year. They had some other injuries that year too. They were a playoff team out west. With Robinson now a little older, having Duncan was perfect. They were the twin towers. Then of course, they landed Manu and Parker. Duncan was great... he also landed with the ideal organization: competent. Think just how differently we'd perceive Timmy if he'd landed someplace like the Nets or the Clippers who's franchises had always been run poorly. Look at what happened with KG until he left: he can't win (even though we know you need more than one guy to win a title.)

Jordans playoff shooting percentage and numbers actually went up in the playoffs where kobes went way down in the playoffs. Kobe was a good defender but Jordan was the best defensive shooting guard of all time. How is there even a comparison jordan shot over 50 percent every year but one of his career minus the baseball comeback and the wizard years at plus 40, kobe Never did and most years did not even come close. I think there is an argument to be made that wade is the 2nd best shooting guard ever since he too averaged more blocks, steals, rebounds and assists per game and shot at a way higher percentage and wade has 3 rings. And btw Drexler averaged more rebounds assists steals and blocks per game too shooting at a way higher percentage than kobe did. If you dont believe me feel free to go look it up. Kobe is closer to wade and Drexler thsn he is to Jordan, I do like kobe as a man, he was real smart, spoke 3 or 4 languages, and seemed to be a Great father, and is horrible he died he was a great player but he was no where near MJ I am sorry he just was not and I know I am in the minority especially after his tragic death but I think theres a pretty good argument to be made that D Wade is the second greatest shooting guard of all time.

    Tim Duncan never had a losing record, never missed the playoffs this is really not a comparison. Duncan is top 5 all time imo.

    Little known fact. Timmy has the most blocks in playoff history. By a good amount.
    But I have to ride with my boy Kobes.
    He was more than basketball. He was beyond it.

    It DIDN'T matter the roster who was around Tim Duncan. He won when Parker/Ginobili was young, old, and in their prime. He also won with a young Kawhi.
    It DID matter the roster that was around Kobe. He only won when he had a dominant front-court to divert some of the workload.
    Duncan had the better career and its kinda obvious to be brutally honest.

      ManuDuncanSpurs besides Jordan. I agree. Duncan had a better career than Kobe and it’s sooooooo obvious. But his fans want to put him in the same breath as Jordan when it isn’t the case at all.

      He really wasn't. You don't win MVPs for playing on poor teams, at least it was that way before Westbrook.

      Oran Johnson because that’s boring and it’s not debating.. which is what this show is about... satisfying the small percentage of people which is you and other Kobe fans, isn’t what makes a tv show.. you follow the script and feed the fans the type of stuff you’ve been doing for years.. again this is a debate show, you wanna see player appreciation watch: the jump, that’s all they do on that show

      disagree. If anything, we can say Duncan more stability and a better system than Kobe did throughout his career. This means Kobe was at a disadvantage when it comes to that.

    • @eldio2124
      @eldio2124 Před 4 lety

      Heavy Papa It’s not the big market team, it’s the fact that Duncan wasn’t a marketable outspoken star. He didn’t have a star personality like Kobe, if he did then this wouldn’t have been a debate.

    For a long time there it was either lakers or spurs winning championships. We had to go through Kobe in his prime to get some of those champions. It was an honor watching those two legends go at it in the early 2000. Like Steven A said the model of consistency that Timmy displayed during his career wins over Kobe. Man won championships in 3 different decades.

  • @kbdemonbain

    Am I the only one that remembers when SAS discusses this years ago he said Kobe has had the better career cause Kobe went through far more instability and chaos with the lakers organization where Duncan had the consistent spurs organization?
    I could be wrong
