He noticed when his best friends grew older, Amy and Rory. But the ones he loved beyond that.. which is very hard to surpass, he couldn't see any different, as if a glowing light illuminated them always. Clara, Rose, River.
this is such a magical moment i've never been so moved by Christmas in my entire life
Man, this episode still puts me in tears watching it. Hell, I'm tearing up just recollecting it while I listen to this remastered version. It is the first real moment where the Twelfth Doctor really opens up to somebody. Peter Capaldi's incredible performance truly manages to convey the optimistic desperation of a man who can't bear the thought of losing his best friend, and looking equally for forgiveness from Clara as he is companionship.
same here. even now, like if i listen to it, and think about it, i'd just tear up. and yeah, it's surprising how optimistic and open he can be, a man devoted. but he gets what he gives, just see Clara's face gazing at him on Santa's sleigh

My favourite christmas specials have always been the sadder ones. I get that you don't want people to cry on christmas day but let's be honest, there the ones you remember.

I really love this track, I can imagine it being Capaldi's regeneration theme or at least another tragic ending such as Clara's, it also reminds me of The Long Song and seems like a fitting ending theme but feels progressive and not downbeat, perfect Regeneration track.
I can sorta see it as Clara's ending theme with Twelve in the situation not understanding how to cope with the loss as he slowly breaks down.. :/
Would have to cut the Good Man segment tho.

Another of those great pieces of DW music that never got reused, I guess some tracks are too associated with a particular scene
It got reused in Face the Raven and today in the Wild Blue Yonder especial episode!
It was used in both Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle, from the 60th anniversaries

I always have - and always will - wish that this had been Clara's last episode as originally written by Moffat... the idea of her travelling Europe - teaching - exploring - LIVING though never QUITE moving past Danny... a wonderful send-off.
Not that her OTHER ending was bad - far from it. But this... this was better.
I disagree, I find his ending on Hell Bent amazing. It feats her "doctorisation" character's arc and the take on her relationship with The Doctor on this episode is beautiful !

@@PerovNigma You might want to check every Doctor Who rating website then. It's a loved episode on IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Doctor Who TV and Gallifreybase. The haters are just a tiny minority
never quite moving past Danny, huhu... what a life to lead. No, I feel like that dream of Clara being old was her idea of her life that she imagined in that moment. Like, if it was real, I'd want her to find someone, if just for her sake. But unfortunately Clara's a fictional character so her ending can be symbolic, so your opinion is without question valid

It's the scene in Doctor Who season 6 Closing Time where the Doctor is talking to Craig asking if he feels safe with him and calls himself stupid and selfish for endangering Alfie and Craig, and he keeps talking about the fact he's going to die only to realise Craig was asleep, not hearing a word he said, and there are some beautiful violins playing as the doctor puts a blanket over them before heading off. If the soundtrack for that scene was seperated from the voices, I would be so grateful!
