    Stopped by the gear shop on Tuesday. The young man up front was very nice. Saw Lorenzo but he was helping a customer. Could have stayed longer taking in all the gear and asking questions but had to get back to convention that I was in town for. Bought some GOHUNT swag so mission accomplished. It’s very easy to Uber to. I encourage anyone visiting Vegas to stop by. Well worth it.

    We have taken 6 elk with the 6.5 creedmoor and never had one run over 50 yards. All shot 300-500 yards in Arizona

    I'm not taking a 6.5 creed on a once in a lifetime hunt... I'm taking a 6 creed.

      Same. It's clear some folks don't understand terminal ballistics.

      @@jackwagon1798 I'm happy they have worked for you. I've read a ton of terminal ballistics, and listened to people way smarter than me... but I still don't buy it. I'd rather pack more than is needed when it comes to hunting and taking an animal.

    Elk always sound like a teenager whose voice is breaking. Also the Bullet and how it kills means more than caliber used, Case capacity is used to get the bullet into its performance window at the distance and wind conditions your hunting in.

    What a podcast 😂 moonlight, 6.5 cm, ballistics, UV’s , eye sight, hearing, luck and more.
    I’ve never agreed and disagreed more in one show, but laughed the whole time and appreciated the show thoroughly.

      Definitely! Here is that article Mark wrote for 2023 and a lot of that information is still greatly valuable: www.gohunt.com/browse/tips-and-tricks/using-the-equinox-and-moon-phases-to-schedule-your-archery-elk-hunt

    Been washing my camo with Atsko brand UV blocker and it works.. was able to talk to the owner on the phone and the US military have used it to conceal camo from nightvision, I’ve stalked in to single digit yards and been busted and the deer only paid attn to my untreated clothes

    32:00 Concerning the discussion on 6.5 CM for use on elk it's important to consider bullet type. With a 127gr Barnes LRX we can produce around 2920 MV, at 300 yards we're still moving 2372 fps and carrying 1587 ft pounds. The monolithic design of the LRX is going to help it cut a very deep wound cavity, likely giving us an entry and exit hole. While I'm not hunting elk with a 6.5 CM, I can see how it would be a good cartridge for newer hunters, kids, or smaller statured folks even for elk hunting. If sticking to a 300 yard shot then with a 200 yard zero we have 7 inches of drop, with some practice most shooters should be drilling tiny holes at 300 with a 6.5 CM, lending some weight to the argument that that soft shooting cartridge would help folks put their bullet in exactly the right place, something recoil adverse (non-Brady Miller) people may have trouble doing with a RUM.

      @highcountryprecision4639 Před měsícem

      The 127 Barnes was a very poor performer on elk when used in damage hunts, they would all exit but wound channels were small with some elk making it 900+ yards before slowing and follow up delivered from a 215 Berger.
      My daughter has taken a number of elk in the 300 yard range with the Creed and 124 Hammer and it's a 30-50 yard trott n drop , most lethal mono I've seen used in elk damage hunts.

    Brady. Let go of the fuddlore.ypu honestly believe a 140gr bullet traveling 1800fps won't go through an elk scapula? Lol. Ok.....

    I shot my first deer on opening day of my first archery hunt. I was creeping up a draw and as I came around a tree on the corner of a point there were two deer standing there 30 yards away. I hadn’t spotted and stalked them but I was moving in the opposite direction of the wind and was moving diligently. So I was fortunate to come across those deer, but it wasn’t luck because I had done specific things to lead me to that opportunity. If I had taken that shot and my arrow hit a tree branch and the deer jumped and it ricocheted into the deer. That might be considered a lucky shot.

    Seems contradicting to be for mechanicals considering the risk of malfunction but opposed to smaller caliber rifles 🤔 i wont use small calibers or mechanicals its just not worth the risk to me

    Not the same thing. Projectile energy in a bow, comes from the shooter. In a rifle, it comes from the cartridge.

    So true. Personal experience in 45 years; big bulls typically sound big But i have called in numerous monsters that sounded like a girl. Against that i rarely here little bulls sound like drooly, nasty, tree ripping monster.
    If you can watch other bull elk reactions to the call you will know.
