    100 tons is the maximum capacity of the fully configured machine, this one is a lot smaller. The ice is used for seafood preservation on fishing vessels etc. The explanation is on the manufacturer web site.

    There appear to be 20 blocks of ice per "run".
    Each block appears to be about (SWAG) 200 gallons (US).
    1 (US) gallon of water (@62 Deg F) weighs up to 8.34 pounds.
    200 gallons * 20 blocks * 8.34 pounds = 32,960 pound of water or 16.48 tons per run.
    Ignoring loss of water due to slight thaw to remove blocks from molds, an unknown solution (yellow stuff at end) used to freeze the water in the molds, it could be presumed 100 tons of ice per 8 hour production shift (given 1 hr to freeze each run= 6 hrs plus 2 hrs per shift for maintenance, setup/reset and sanitation).
    It's all in the labeling/marketing.

    I worked in an ice plant that made ice on a vertical sheet then it got broken up and used for shrimp boats. Then it had a seperate line that took ice chips and pressed them into block form as water flowed over it. Then it was bagged and palletized and stored.

    If you saw how foamy white that ice was that means it's not pure. Clear ice that multiple days to produce. When the ice is approximately 1 to 2 inches a hole is punched in the top and the interior water is removed and filled with purified water and a salt tablet added to pull the remaining impurities out of the water. When the ice is crushed to make bagged ice the foamy center is discarded. The remaining clear ice is your bad guys.
    The production of this ice in my opinion is for commercial use such as in the fishing industry possibly shaved or chipped to be placed over captured fish. Just an observation on my part. I worked in a block ice house and we produced clarified ice for consumption.

    • @joelmartin2549
      @joelmartin2549 Před 6 lety +1

      J, clear ice needs to be made from flowing water, it has little to do with the purity of your water unless it is visibly contaminated. The white ice you see here is due to the way the molecules set up, for example; snow.
