Tough day in India. i almost got scammed... twice.
The first one i booked accommodations with booking dot com. the room was avaliable and listed for a certain price, when i got there to my shock the dude tried to charge me 3x the price.
second scam: this one doesn't hurt the wallet but it annoys me and its about principle. being charged more than a local for simple things like sugar cane drink. it doesnt cost much more, but thats not the point. Honesty is what i appreciate.

Don't argue with them if you haven't paid them online already. Its not worth it.
The audacity to say foreigners are not allowed when they are attempting to increase prices because you are a foreigner. Their hotel business must've been short on cash and I believe they might be related. You should also drop the business name so we can give low stars. Last half of the video was great. You should travel in a group so they don't try intimidation.

Choose hotels with a minimum 3-star rating to avoid scams, same stuff happens with locals as well.

check lowest stars and see the reason for that. If you see anything scatchy, don't go for it. India is a developing country every man here will try to make as much money as possible, and I am afraid many people choose to loot others in order to do that. So be careful and be smart. Also if you want accommodation in low prices, go for Indian youth hostels or Zostels and similar hostels. They provide nice room in decent price , and you can guarantee that they will not scam you. @@abdixplorer

9:40 I don't think this was a scam. He said "bada" means large, which is 20rs. I live in India only, the large size is sold for mostly 20rs and small one for 10rs. The lady cleary asked for small size with no ice.

Relax, get a travel routine and don't stick to this "scam everywhere" thoughts, it will make your time harder. Of course when there is a serious scam going on that's another story and we should be aware, but complaining a poor guy for 10 rupi (10 EUR cent) is just cheap in my eyes.

Besides these is no tourist prices when you buy local stuff tourist prices are only given by govt. You can see it in Taj Mahal but where is the noticed in the hotel with a govt stamp or in a shop where it says tourist prices lol

@@bashird467 there are 2 sizes. And more sizes in actual shops. The street vendor is honest. The lady drank a small glass which cost 10. I pay 30 for that same glass in the area where I work.

This dude visits all the cheapest places and ask for luxury hygiene and respect…500 inr is hardly 4 dollars and if u get a room per a day at that price that’s what you get u get what u paid for…and don’t go and argue at such places good thing that u came back safe. Little advise for you my brother when you visit india anytime in your life just go to the brighter side of it don’t go and explore cheap and darker side and expect rewards.u will be treated as a king at good places and a piece of shet at slums and the places you opt in this video…don’t go cheaper in india cuz everything is already cheaper

I have been 4 times to India and I never paid more than 10 dollars for a hotel. most of the time it was between 3 and 5 dollars a night. usually you pay 2 or 3 times more just because you are a foreigner.....
i was born in and live in india and have never paid below Rs 2000 (about $25) per night for a hotel (recent years) and that is what i would consider decent / budget hotel. You get what you pay for. A lot of foreigners go to the absolute worst hotels where even the locals would think twice about going (they are mainly for prostitution) and then complain.
The worst I have stayed in was full of spider web and rats running around in the room with dirty bed. I stayed there for 3 nights and never complained about the state of it. a room is just to sleep and nothing more. I am not interesting by anything more than a bed.@@chickenkm

Price on online booking website and price when u simply walk in,
is usually different price.
If u paid online on online booking website, and then appear at hotel,
the hotel cannot ask for more charges.
If u never book online but just appear at hotel,
usually the hotel will charge u higher price.
If u book online and then appear at hotel,
but hotel then cancel your stay,
the booking website will penalize the hotel,
or the booking website might ban the hotel from all future bookings
it is odd since booking (or other website) take a cut. Which means you expect it actually to be lower on the spot.
I had this one time in Turkey, where the guy asked to cancel booking reservation and pay in person instead because they charge much.
thats a big problem with tourist in india, they think things will work the same way as in europe, but nooo, things dont work like that at all... safety is wayy more important in india, not just physical one but a mental one, and that is only possible in a 3star hotel

The hotel scam is common in India. It is for all, not just foreigners. But the juice guy had two different sized cups, he said so. Small glass 10, big glass 20. Not sure how you missed that. He explained it to you when you spoke with him before the lady showed up.

Any reputable spot would've apologized and tried to fix the website but would've honored the price paid. The fact they were dismissive means they know their rate on Booking is super low and are banking on ppl booking and then charging them more at the hotel. And a lot of people would because they already booked online and don't want the hassle. I wouldn't want to sleep there anymore

If you go India, be prepared to pay at least half of what you pay in the UK. India is still developing after the British left. Poverty has created bad habits where in poor areas, people may see foreigners with pound sign on their heads. If you pay a decent amount, they'll be no risk of this. I've booked cheap because it's tempting, but it's not worth the headache.

First one is scam for sure, the second one (juice) I don't quite agree.
Your living standard is much higher, how you should think is how much one would offer this juice back in Australia. Then you sort of get the 'fair' price you should pay (since your income on average will be higher due to higher living standards).
Honestly, I was like you pennypicking in foreign countries making sure it was the same price. But after lots of traveling I came to a different realization. Tourists actually 'scam' locals by demanding local prices while having relatively crazy high income. Especially countries with low income, so the country get double scammed and will not have opportunity to develop more with proper tourist income. Just thought experiment a Swiss person coming to a poor place to haggle about 5 cent USD, given their high median income. Would be crazy right?
This comment makes no sense. By that logic when someone from a low income society immigrates to a high income society, they should be entitled to cheaper groceries, as they are coming from a low income country. Now multiply that by 1 million and your economy is bank-rupted
Put that in reverse, as shown in this video, and you have raised the value per item. Now, why would i serve low-income people when I can charge higher-income more per product? Low-income people suffer and eventually your econmy is starved.
Lets call it what it is, oppurtunistic selling by a vendor. He priced his product based on his available audience, but stupidly got caught out because both parties purchased at the same time. Its a backwards way to practice any business, especially in the catering industry. Why do coffee shops generally have menu's which stipulate price per item and have a tip jar with no minimum? The customer has a mandatory price and voluntary price to pay.
Like any local business you should keep your prices fixed based on the local economy and if you provide a good enough service, you gain oppurtunity to raise your prices based on service level, and also tips from people of high income.
This guy was trying to make a quick buck and got caught out by someone who was quicker and was called out for it, rightly so.

You can say a lot about Pahar Ganj, but at least in the hotels there they have their rates available by the check-in counter and will welcome anyone who's able to pay their listed price.

Everybody travels, considering his budget. But you come from a Tier 1 country like Australia. You earn better than the upper middle class of other countries.
