Talaria Sting R MX4 Review from a 72v Sur Ron owner!

- The Talaria Sting R MX4 has taken the Sur Ron community by storm, but is this "lightweight" electric dirt bike worth the hype or should you still get a Sur Ron X Light Bee? In today's video I ride my 72v Surron down to Luna Cycle to try out the brand new Talaria Sting R MX4.
In this video I test the Talaria Sting R top speed, and 0-60 acceleration speed, along with a variety of other things. In this video I'll express my opinion on the Talaira Ebike from the perspective of a surron owner who's done more upgrades than I care to admit in the past 14 months.
While this isn't exactly a talaria sting vs Sur Ron video, I do make many references to how this sting compares to my 72v surron as well as how it compares to the stock Sur Ron x. Hope you enjoy the video!

Man I was dead set on the solar eclipse then I saw this and 1500 cheaper. I ordered it should he here early June. Going to order the 72v 57ah battery I guess I'll need a different controller any recommendations for controller? Was looking at this to buy first the batter downn the road.
The aftermarket on the Talaria is pretty strong. Anything you want to do to a Sur Ron can be done to the Talaria. The Sur Ron definitely has a wider selection of the same parts, but TBH I haven't found anything lacking in the Talaria aftermarket.
The reason I went with the MX3 (purchased back in '21) was because of the gearbox and the ability to fit a 100/90-19 in the rear without trimming. For me, the gearbox is necessary since I ride woods, enduro, and single track where mud would be a major issue for a belt drive. Regardless, ride what you have, have fun, and don't worry about what others are riding.
My friend's MX4 arrives today so I'm pretty pumped to compare it to my MX3 especially when we hit the woods.
awesome, and great point on the gearbox for offroad riding. Specifically the thing that might not me compatible is a controller upgrade and tune since it is IPM motor that is different then the surron motor, but largely yes there is a healthy aftermarket selection for both ebikes. happy riding!
Yeah, I bought one about a year ago, and just recently was surprised at how much the aftermarket support increased over the course of a year.
I have the MX4. I've been upgrading the crap out of it. At this point, I'm just going to purchase another frame for about $850, and a gearbox for $350, then use all of the OEM parts I have taken off to build a complete second bike, so my friends can ride with me. The bike is awesome! I love it! Even completely stock, it's really impressive. All the surron fanboys say there is no aftermarket support, but that's completely not true. And, there are more parts available every day. Just waiting for a rear control arm to come out. The bike will probably cost me 13-14k when it's done, but upgrading it is half the fun. And did I mention, it's AWESOME!

Nice video. But you have to compare apples to apples. Obviously a 72 v system is going to outperform a 60V. Im purchasing a Talaria R. Keep up the good content

Yeah it’s not fair to compare a stock bike to a upgraded bike, but the mx4 is a nice performance bike my top speed is 56mph

the added weight is the upgraded battery 45ah vs 38 on sur ron etc. It has a gearbox vs belt pulley. I love my sting and will upgrade once i get it paid off lol. A lot of upgrades have already been applied and they fixed many of the complaints of sur ron and previous talaria so the appeal is strong!! Cut the wire and it will be a wheelie monster! My seat doesnt have the red etching though....did i get ripped? There are a lot of parts for this btw, many of the sur ron parts will work on here too.

question i just got a 72v 60ah, and when i was riding around 40-48 mph my bike was cutting out a lil i could fix it by pulling back the throttle im i using to high of a KW or is it more then that?
Is it true that they still haven’t solved the problem with the battery loose in the compartment?
the only deciding factor for me with the talaria sting r vs sur ron is the weight. I am not sure what to get. I want to be able to jump the bike and whip it around but I am on 5'7 and 120lbs what do you guys think I shoudl get?
The Sur Ron is lighter, a big part of that is the smaller battery I’m sure. Tough call!

Looks like the seat is aftermarket, also the mud flap protecting the rear shock looks added. Like you kept saying it's heavier and its definitely noticeable I think the surron probably is worlds easier to wheelie. It's gotta be easier to pull up and control and balance a bike half your weight. Whereas the talaria is closer to my body weight. I think it makes for a better off roading platform tho. And they already have controllers and batteries all kinds of stuff for the talaria.

Man I just ordered the sting r was originally going for the solar eclipse but I thought I'd save some money and get a 72v 57ah battery down the road. Do you think I made the right decision ?

I've been there in person twice and was told both times that they don't offer test rides, even for their more basic offerings such as the Luna Banana. I guess they are more accommodating if you show up in a modded Sur Ron and have a CZcams channel... or maybe they were just feeling friendly that day? I ended up buying from ONYX instead (also in El Segundo) in part because I was actually able to do test rides there. Been interested in buying from Luna for over a year since I live in the area, but I get a kinda unfriendly vibe from them which pushed me away. I am afraid of what the customer support would be like.

Of course your Sur Ron is going to be faster with more power, due to you spending $1000's on after market upgrades. What you should do is get a out of the box Sur Ron and compare that to the out of the box Talaria. Going on what we've seen its pretty obvious that if you upgraded the MX4 the same I'd bet money that it would piss all over the Sur Ron.
What regen level is it on that will affect wheelies
If you were to pick Talaria or solar eclipse out of box which one would you pick?
that's a tough call. being that I already basically have a surron, probably the eclipse because it serves a different purpose than the sting/surron. I have another video coming soon. the eclipse feels more like a commuter, the sting feels like a dirt bike

How would you compare it to the Solar E-Clipse?
Different animals, the talaria seems more nimble and agile with its shorter wheel base and true mid drive motor vs the swing arm mounted and longer wheelbase of the eclipse. The eclipse has a much larger battery so you’ll get much more range. The talaria has much more ground clearance and is truly a dirtbike whereas the eclipse feels best suited for street riding and higher speed cruising. I’ll be posting another eclipse video in several days, I boosted the top speed and let a stranger borrow it… who crashed it 😆 will be entertaining
The talaria is a far more capable bike off road. The solar eclipse right out if the box is orib a better road bike tho the talaria has more potential and available parts if you ever need to fix or replace sumn.
@@JuicedJoyrides I was the one that told you about turning the power up on the eclipse. Kind of funny someone wrecked it hopefully it's not too damaged, I've seen to many surron test rides end in looping the bike to ever let anyone try my bike especially not with the power cranked up.
ok, been looking around at various websites selling Talaria in Europe.. it seems like there are several different models, or t least different model names?.. how many models do they really have now in 2023? one model called XxX, but I cannot see it on the websites but it show up on CZcams, and then one model called MX and another L1E... and her you show one called MX4?
How many are they and what are really their differences now?

L1E is a street legal version. You can get it registered
it weighs more than a stock surron but the talaria come stock with peg brace and a bigger battery, you would have to pay an extra few hundred dollars more to get a surron to this level.
Would you says it’s about on par with the surron with a bac 4000 and a bypassed stock battery
That’s probably a good relevant comparison actually, although the talaria can do it for longer since it has more battery capacity
Ordered the ebmx x-9000 controller and will go for a 72v in a couple momths. Hoping to bypass battery and be able to hot 60mph. Thats the goal

As long as it’s the same voltage, which is 48v you shouldn’t have a problem, may need a connector adapter

Today, 11/21/2023, the Sting R MX4 is $3000! Not sure why the big price drop, but it would be hard to justify a Surron for sure with a $3k price on the Talaria. They have a model with a 'better' inverted fork, 4 colors to choose from, and possibly some other things for just $100 more. Likely going to order mine soon.

Man its a really tough choice between the sting r and the sur ron. Sur ron has such a huge aftermarket of parts. Easier to find install videos etc. Still its really hard to argue against the talaria sting r for the same price.

Something that you have not upgraded your front fork. The Talaria MX4 comes with a decent fork. I have an older sur ron and instead of dumping huge amounts of money like you have thinking of selling it and buying an MX4. Also one can get the BAC 4000 that is already available as is the battery bypass.
be nice to have a housing unit with a mini drone for deployment
KO makes a myriad of parts for talaria the rest is just measurement parts as far as suspension and brakes but upgrading batteries and controller units motors all available for Talaria
they probably haven't cut the factory cable to unlock the power on that showroom one

in stock form it's fine, I feel like the sting r and e-clipse are about the same acceleration, sting r is more of a stunt bike feel, e-clipse is a better street cruiser. is it worth $6k is the real question to ask. the sting r is a great value in the ebike space. I boosted the e-clipse top speed, new video in 32 mins.
