Such a good idea to have the characters listed at the beginning. It saves searching backwards to remind yourself of how someone links into the story, which I have to do a lot with some books.

SO EXCITING, Katie! That map looks so authentic as a mid-19th century map. You know how swoonish I am about the U.K. edition of Hartwood Hall, but this new cover! BEAUTIFUL. The illustrations, the foiling, the spine. It belongs with the special editions of Jane Austen and other classic novels. I've had my copy pre-ordered since your first announcement. Is the lack of a U.S. publisher because there's no American branch of your U.K. publisher? Would it require getting an American agent to shop American publishers? Perhaps you'll get one once the book turns into a film series!
Thanks so much! So, it's complicated with trying to get a US publisher. My overarching UK publisher does have a US branch (my publisher are Michael Joseph, who are part of PRH), but my imprint (Michael Joseph) is just UK-based. Also, usually publishers don't have world rights and just publisher in select territories. UK agents do in general submit to US publishers, and some agencies work with sub-agents or have international agents specifically to submit to different countries, so this book has been submitted to some US publishers, but I've struggled getting a deal. I think this is partly because it might feel a bit niche in premise and also because my first novel was marketed much more as a mystery in the US than in was in the UK, so for the US, my second book doesn't feel on brand, if that makes sense. Anyway, we shall see. 🤷♀️
@@katiejlumsden WOW. That IS complicated, but you've made sense of it. Perhaps American publishers will catch up when it goes to screen. I can see it SO vividly--kind of like the opening of P&P (either one!) with all the chaos and exasperation and dramedy. 🙂
