    Awesome! The pencil tool is much more useful now. I might even give it a spin now instead of juggling bezier curves with the pen tool.
    Thanks for showing those new features in such detail man!

    Great overview, Jhon! The variable font feature is the one I will probably use the most.

    The improved pencil algorithm and the width tool are really helpful additions. Also great to have variable font support. It's still early, but the Canva acquisition seems positive. IF they keep their word and don't force RENTAL, I'll stay and pay for version upgrades.

    Beware! 2.5 has a bug that does not allow any of the Affinity programs to start in some Windows (10 and 11)computers. Continue using 2.4.2 until they work out the bug. Hopefully 2.5.1 will be out soon to take care of this bug.

    If I purchase Affinity for iPad and it changes to a subscription model, can I still use Affinity but without any new updates please?

    • @jhon.vectorize
      @jhon.vectorize  Před měsícem

      I think so, I don't guarantee that, but Affinity and Canva don't show interest to change to a subscription model because they know that they're competing with Adobe

    No blob brush and eraser yet...

      I wouldn't complain, they are doing a good job to be honest.
      the version 2 has shape builder, warping in vector, fill tool, width tool,
      is a winning position :)

      Some tools that people ask for that are in Illustrator aren't really requested by a lot of people. Vector Trace is, but other than that possibly a gradient mesh. I am an illustrator that's been using Adobe products since the 90s and I've never used the blob brush tool. But, I've also never used gradient mesh, either. I guess a vector trace would be nice for a lot of people, but also as an illustrator myself, I've found tools like that to be sub-par. Even using Adobe Streamline way back in hte 90s, it didn't do a great job. I always ended up drawing things by hand anyway. Same thing with AI background removal in Photoshop. I still end up drawing a path with the pen tool and then clipping it out myself, at least for areas that aren't hair or leaves. All this AI stuff, while interesting, hasn't been very useful to ACTUAL designers and artists tht do professional work

      @@timz9862 I use the blob brush, mainly for organic looking lettering in a paint and cut back fashion. I don't use the gradient mesh or image tracer, but i do like to use the freeform gradient in illustrator. I agree about Ai not being that useful. Ok for genrative fill in PS but the illustrator beta AI is poor. Firefly never does what I want it to... I use both Illustrator and designer at work. I find designer to be a cleaner app, but i do find myself right clicking and menu diving more in designer as I'm so used to Illustrator. I also like to use fresco's vector tool on the ipad as it's nice and simple to use.

      @@jhon.vectorize Not complaining, :-) I use both, but I do love the blob brush for organic yet clean creations. In Designer i have to scribble with a fat brush then expand the strokes, then combine the shapes to clean up the points.... Just a longer process. I just love painting in the blob brush and then cutting it back. Simple!

    The Variable fonts is okay, but the rest features adobe has them over 10yrs ago.
