  • This was first class, so what could go wrong. In fairness, not much, although I didn't expect to get a compartment, which is my least-preferred type of carriage. You have to face strangers and fight for leg room for hours. Come along for a fun ride on 'The Rybak' from Szczecin to Gdansk. #polish railways

    Having travelled 1st class from Warsaw to Krakow due to Ryan air diverting airports, I'd saw up grade was great. Free hot drink enroute.
    Also half a train full of UK tourist, the bar ran out of booze two thirds through the ride! I do feel the 10 or so party of Welsh, Irish and Scottish I was with caused this much to the amusement of the Polish passengers.

    When you put on the screen you were going to get some fresh air, I thought you were going back to the WC, lol. Certainly puts a lot of our trains to shame. Looking forward to the next film

    I love trains with compartments. I face strangers yes, but I would usually start a conversation in the first ten minutes. And then these people are no longer strangers. I like to talk with people on buses, trains and planes. The time passes quicker this way. Occasionally there would be a passenger who has no desire to talk with me. But the clues are usually clear. I accept it.

    I travelled Gdansk to Szczecin last year on another train (not the "Rybak") and the carriages were more modern feeling, i.e. no compartments, and I'm sure it took a lot less time....although it was delayed en route for around 25 minutes causing a mad scramble in Szczecin Station to make my connection!

    Nice to see you had one of PKPs retro liveried locomotives at the front of your train. The design of course, very similar to a now withdrawn type that used to be in the UK.

    Another excellent video Scott - thanks for posting. Very interesting to see all the different types of seating accommodation within the same train. I think if I encountered that particular passenger in my compartment, I'd have escaped straight away to the second class open carriage for fresh air! Cheers. Vivian

    I am surprised there was no restaurant carriage there. Usually there is a restaurant carriage on long routes and they are labelled WARS. I was surprised by tasty and quality food served there and it didn't cost that much! Beer is also served there.

    Something I've noticed about Poland... wherever you go, there's always a signpost to Lublin. Which either means Lublin is a popular destination, or the word has another meaning.

    • @kajobecha
      @kajobecha Před rokem

      @@derektaylor2941 Lublin is small, without something `` amazing ''. Every Polish larger city offers the same as Lublin + a lot more. Example of Szczecin: Boulevards, Castle, Monumental waterfront, layout of roundabouts, squares as in Paris, access to the sea, the old town, almost 70% of the city is water and green. Currently, the water front is still under construction. Lublin has only one of all these things.

When it comes to architecture it is a very nice city. Majdanek Concentration Camp, Zamość and Kazimierz Dolny are also quite close from Lublin.

      Back in 1962 Polish Railways had bought 20 or so EU06 (polish class number) locos bulit by English Electric complete with the licence to produce more of them in Poland. EU06 was based on British Rail Class 83. In later decades EU06 became the basis for newer classes of electric locos developed in polish works. EP07 seen in this video belongs to one of these classes.

    I was in a first class night compartment like that in Poland, starting at Szczecin. At the following stop (after midnight) 4 polish riot cops dressed as star-troopers decided to amuse themselves by sitting with me and trying to intimidate. It was about half an hour before they realised I was a foreigner. I annoyed the cops by taking a selfie with them. We all sat in the compartment for 3 hours when I wanted to sleep.
    Oh bad news about the pole dropping one. What sort of person does that ? At least he didn't leave behind a Glasgow Lettuce. All polish men look as if they are soldiers to me, the women are significantly slimmer and prettier than British females, food is good, cities are dour with at least 1 fancy shopping mall and a big square.
