John MacArthur FINALLY COMMENTS about the Alistair Begg Controversy During Recent Q and A!

  • John MacArthur has finally weighed in on the Alistair Begg Controversy with his first public statements. He was asked about it during a Question and Answer session at Grace Community Church. MacArthur was gracious in what he said regarding Alistair Begg and his ministry but made his position known boldly and clearly. John MacArthur differs strongly with Alistair Begg regarding this issue. MacArthur made many statements about the Alistair Begg situation, attendance of weddings in question and what he doesn't understand in the whole Alistair Begg debacle. I provide commentary and teaching on the topic as well and point to other videos that I have made about this issue. They can be found below and in the pinned comment. There is a playlist regarding the Alistair Begg / John MacArthur Controversy on CZcams and you can find descriptions of each video on the website. You won't want to miss a moment of this video of John MacArthur addressing the wedding issue with Alistair Begg.

RESPONSE VIDEO to Alistair Begg's sermon on 1/28/24 that demonstrates that he refuses to repent and makes the obvious implication that anyone that expresses concern about his position (which is almost all of conservative Christianity) is a Pharisee. I play highlight clips and provide a cold reaction to the disturbing things that were preached. I also make the case that his beliefs and statements have opened the floodgates wide open for the embracing of his same beliefs throughout the Church.

This is very disappointing news about Alistair Begg. In a recent livestream, I provided a well-researched and thoughtful response to the recent issues regarding Alistair Begg. I structured it in such a way that it could be shared with members of Parkside Church to help process what has happened. I also strongly encourage reaching out to Truth for Life with your concerns.

And I think if you happen to compromise the word of God because none of us are sinless that's just Our Redeemer Jesus! just come back and just like you publicly compromised then you should publicly repent/confess. You know the word does say confess your faults one to another, so then you should do it publicly, if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us of all unrighteousness, you can't be prideful and act like nothing has happened.. also I think all of us make mistakes we have to realize that and know that we're not sinless.

My daughter was in a relationship with a girl, i prayed for almost a year for her. That God would speak to her and convict her and show her that her lifestyle was wrong. She was planning a civil partnership with the girl and she asked me if I would attend the ceremony. It broke my heart when she asked me, because I knew I couldnt attend. I stood my ground and we fell out massively over it. I continued to pray for her and God in His mercy convicted her and she repented. Not only did God convict her, but His grace abounded towards her. She went to Bible College and did really well. She has thanked me for not backing down and that she knew deep down that the gay lifestyle was wrong all along. It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance. Praise God for answering prayer and truly saving my beautiful daughter ❤

John Piper, who engages in Trump-hate idolatry, went so far as to put dismissing Trump ahead of the God breathed, God ordained lives of the unborn. Piper said (referring to Trump): “Christians communicate a falsehood to unbelievers when we act as if policies and laws that protect life and freedom are more precious than being a certain kind of person.” (This is the most damning, most egregious statement Christendom has ever produced.)
Do I idolize Trump? No! I am deeply appreciative of the way God was able to use him to save children from often painful, and always deadly abortions. God worked through that foul, despicable sinner in ways that were nothing short of miraculous. Piper will never see this, for he is fixated on Trump’s obvious shortcomings to the exclusion of seeing God’s mighty hand at work.

How do you love your enemies? You dissect what love is in the love chapter. Love does not rejoice in iniquity but rejoices in the truth is the part of love we need to look at here. The truth is that those that distort and blaspheme God's order will not inherit the Kingdom but will indeed see and know God's wrath. This is both love and mercy to not affirm what God does not affirm.

Absolutely agree with Pastor John because it’s NOT his opinion but because it’s what God says. IMO, I believe that many women have become “gay/lesbian” DUE to a bad marriage experience, they have been SO hurt that they’ve lost all hope in men. But also that many women ESPECIALLY younger women are narcissists (they want all the attention and want to be lavished all the time) they go for whomever can provide their dream lifestyle.

My actual response was to just to remain single. I didn’t hate women at all. I just didn’t trust my judgement anymore regarding relationships with women. Then I met my soon-to-be wife. After 14 years of marriage, I still marvel that THIS is what a real Godly relationship is supposed to look like.

I have love for Alister Begg and pray he repents. Pastor Mac is right to say not judge a man at his weakest moment. With that said, it’s the doubling down and tripling down that is even more concerning to me. When I got saved I ended up in a mega church and it put on performance that was evil and I was the only one that walked out. I cried and was kind of traumatized because it made me realize there was some pretty unscriptural churches out there and this one was even blasphemous. Then I went on a three year Bible study day and night so I would know when I was hearing false preaching because it scared me to think of being seduced by doctrines of demons. I’m guilty of anger towards these kinds of pastors and was crushed more by Alister’s triple down because how could he not know better? I think to myself how a man that has been scripturally sound for so many years say this. I questioned myself and wondered if I had missed something. Bad advise and bad understanding of Gods Word causes so much confusion with babes in Christ and the body in general. This is heartbreaking.

@stevebeasley5181 it's too bad you see something as serious as sexual perversion, overblown nonsense. Maybe you don't understand the bible that much because if you did you would understand why giving someone the advice that they should not only go and celebrate, but bring a gift is so bad and misleading. Allister Begg understands the sin and abomination of homosexuality, so to advise as he did is irresponsible as a pastor, and extremely confusing to the one hearing it and confusion comes from the evil one. Yes Allister Begg has been a faithful man of God, but the advice he gave is troubling.
The LGBTQ community was praising AB, that's a problem as to what it says about AB advice.
And one last thing. AB, and all of us should be more concerned about offending a holy God than making sure we don't offend a practicing homosexual who is a relative.
Real love tells the truth and warns the sinner of the consequences of unrepentance. Showing support for a wedding that is actually not a wedding but a perversion of a wedding by telling someone to not only celebrate, but bring a gift is cowardice. AB treated the situation like a social justice warrior would, like someone who is a progressive. Unfortunately all his years of faithful preaching are going to be overshadowed by this poor advice and his unwillingness to hear and accept correction. That in itself is another serious issue.

@@stevebeasley5181 No, this is a tremendously important issue the church is attempting to deal with and get right. Although we should all know the answer to it, if we spend any time at all in the Word, it is the same old conundrum Christians have dealt with forever. What do we do when our family members, whom we love dearly, are walking a path of destruction and want me to bless them? Shouldn't be a problem to answer that, should it? We expect the heretical churches to answer as Beggs did, but not HIM. These issues come to test the church. God wants us to pay attention to not just the unbiblical answer of Begg, but the fact that a leader can not only make a terrible error, but the response the church, and the Pastor who made it, has. The church is not really good at discipline. This goes back to the Corinthian church and its tolerance of sin. The lack of repentance on Begg's part is something the church needs to watch. Maybe there are bigger things that take precedence over other people wrong choices. Jesus showed there is a way to show love but not be in support of sin. Begg erred for sure. The minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ publicly states that you all are probably not going to like what I say… In that case, he should reevaluate the thought process by which those things that he says is developed. Upon again Christian attending a gay or transsexual wedding is in sin… And there is no other way to explain it. We are to shun the very appearance of sin. I would suggest that Alistair read Titus again, especially the part about strongly disagreeing with, and chiding those who are soft on sin. Though we are instructed to love our brother, and, those outside of the state as well, we are instructed to strongly Police and watch over the ministers of the faith to ensure that they operate within the confines of the scriptural guidance and protocol. Unless Alistair Begg repent of the sin, he should be removed from the conference.

Hi there...just found your channel and so thankful ! I believe the Lord answers our prayers by showing us the way/truth through media like this! I heard about this story back when it happened and I didn't really have the time to think about it seriously. I will be honest and say that right away I imagined this happening to one of my family members and thinking to myself "what would I do?". And my flesh/emotional self immediately said "how could I not go? Even if I don't agree with it, that's a close and beloved family member, no matter what..." Now I can say this: if this situation ever happened to me, I could only pray that God would give me the strength NOT to go, and not to give in disobeying God. And instead seek God's help in finding the right words to explain why I wouldn't be going to ALL of my close family members which most are not real Christians to begin with. This would be one of the hardest things I ever did. Unless I lied to everyone and told them I was sick or something! Of course this would be wrong too!

He has readily stated that he holds to the orthodox position on the matter from a doctrinal point of view and so has not ‘departed from the faith’. Let’s just say that it was poor advice which on reflection should have been different. Which pastor does not regret advice he has given in the past? Where does ‘he who is without sin cast the first stone’ come in all of this?

Please see my other comment below to see that I do understand the challenges with family relationships and these issues.
Until now, I hadn't taken the time to hear about the rumors regarding Alistair Begg.
Alistair said, "All I was thinking about was how to help this grandmother not to lose her granddaughter..."
The relationship is already lost right now. Until that last sentence is understood to the core, and action steps about what to do will come from emotion and not truth.
There is no fellowship of light with dark, no matter the tender memories and bonds that we had with family at some point. No matter if we raised them as our own and invested time, physical strength, tears, prayers, finances, and devotion to help them find Christ and walk with Him.
We have more to hold dear with a person that we have never met, from a different culture , living thousands of miles away--IF they follow Jesus--than we do with a parent, child, or sibling who not only doesn't believe, but calls God's design rubbish and their prideful sin adorable.
If the granddaughter does not repent, there is no hope for any level of relationship with her Christ-honoring grandmother. At best, the grandmother can hold space and be kind, truthful when interacting. No matter how great the lost person feels about it and how much they define the saved family member's love as connected to supporting it by attending, make no mistake, the wedding is a satanic celebration.
The mercy gifting is a beautiful thing that we are to use under the guidance of truth. Those who have it must examine our own blessed gift to be sure that we are using it for what serves the body and no for what brings comfort to us personally. Mercy gifted people will get deeply crushed at times by what seems to harsh of God. In those times, we must deny the most kindred feelings to cling only to what God calls fellowship.

Great video. A man standing in the pulpit preaching God's holy scriptures is held to a higher standard. The clergyman is the teacher of scripture to his congregation. God expects him to teach His Word without compromise or usurping His authority. Satan certainly worked hard in deceiving Mr. Begg. Mr. Begg allowed his feelings and compassion to override that of God's Word. To misguide God's flock is a critical error in shepherding. That would be no different than a Christain mother telling her children it's okay to attend their friend's gay wedding. It's hypocrisy whether it be from the pulpit or from home. The Bible is very clear on the do's and don't's of God's instructions to all believers. This is where I believe the Holy Spirit speaks the loudest in our hearts and minds. We must never depend upon our own reasoning above the Lord's. Believe me, I know. As we all will have to do, Mr. Begg, also, will be accountable for his sins before the Lord on judgment day. The days of repenting will by then have passed us all. To our God be the Glory forever and ever.

Begg's framing of his "counsel" to the grandmother -- whom, conveniently, he had and has never met -- used a common persuasion technique known as "looking past the sale." When the car salesman focuses your attention on those luxury, heated, leather car seats, he's diverting your attention from the base-price of the car. And if luxury, heated, leather car seats turn out to be what grabs your attention, you've been persuaded to look past the sale. You've already subconsciously bought the car, because you need a worthy place to put those luxury, heated, leather car seats. Begg had the grandmother -- if she ever actually existed -- look past the sale with his "and buy them a gift" -- delivered as though an afterthought. Subconsciously, attending the wedding was now a fait accompli in this conversation -- the only thing remaining was whether to buy the couple a coffee-maker or an air-fryer. In short, the grandmother story wasn't an off-the-cuff incident he suddenly remembered. He planned to tell it when he told it, and it was structured to persuade -- the real or invented grandmother, first, and us, next. Further, when he recounted it on Sunday night at his church, that telling had him being much more passive and responsive than he was in the original, intentionally persuasive version.
Not only did he groom the grandmother -- if she ever existed -- past the sale by tossing in that bring-a-gift grift, he immediately turned his attention to the host to quickly reel him in -- and by extension, us -- past any doubts, questions or pushback. He not only doubled-down, he triplied-down.
First, he quickly put the host in the awkward position where ascent to Begg's "counsel" was his only option: "And it is a fine line, isn't it? It really is." What was the host to say to that? Begg asked him a leading question, and then promptly answered it for him. He put the host in the position of having to oppose a highly respected pastor. How was the host to now say, "Pastor, you're wrong," after Begg wrapped it up with that framing? The host was already dragged across the line at that point. But Begg was not done.
Second, he relativized it all with a nod to Philippians 2:12 ... "And people need to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling." If the host had any objections, Begg let him know Christians attending gay weddings -- and, conveniently, pastors who counsel Christians to attend gay weddings -- is a conscience issue. There's no absolute right or wrong to guide the decision. It's non-binary. Every Christian will have to decide for himself, herself or ze-self.
Third, he delivered the kill shot ... the deal-closer ... the coup de grâce to all who object ... Inevitability. Nothing -- absolutely nothing -- can resist inevitability. "I think we're going to take that risk. We're going to HAVE TO take that risk a lot more if we want to build bridges into the hearts and lives of those who don't understand Jesus and don't understand that he is a King." Did you hear it? Christians have NO CHOICE if they want others to understand Jesus and know he's King. After all, they want to build bridges, don't they? Well, it's INEVITABLE -- they're simply going to HAVE TO risk going to gay weddings and "a lot more."
Congratulations, Granny ... you've just bought the car. Enjoy those luxury, heated, leather car seats. Indeed, you've also been primed to return to this dealership when the next new model, "Lot More," hits the street.
    ...
Begg used the speaking skills with which he has been blessed to promote wickedness. He broke down the wall that will see thousands of Christians turned into LGBTQ "allies," who will then push the issue even further in their churches. He created the situation where the majority (I hope) of evangelicals will be forced to push back, earning them even more scorn and contempt as anti-LGBTQ bigots and Pharisees, which Begg claims he is trying to prevent. And, apparently, those bridges he wants to build to those who don't understand Jesus doesn't include him crossing over one of those bridges to the still-faithful church he has damaged to publicly repudiate his evil counsel, which we should expect of one who believes Jesus is King.

@@DJG11 Here is the transcript of the original video of Begg describing his conversation with the grandmother:
And in very specific areas this comes across. I mean, you and I know that we field questions all the time that go along the lines of "My grandson is about to be married to a transgender person, and I don't know what to do about this, and I'm calling to ask you to tell me what to do" - which is a huge responsibility.
And in a conversation like that just a few days ago - and people may not like this answer - but I asked the grandmother, "Does your grandson understand your belief in Jesus?"
      "Yes."
"Does your grandson understand that your belief in Jesus makes it such that you can't countenance in any affirming way the choices that he has made in life?"
      "Yes."
I said, "Well then, okay. As long as he knows that, then I suggest that you do go to the ceremony. And I suggest that you buy them a gift."
"Oh," she said, "what?" She was caught off guard.
I said, "Well, here's the thing: your love for them may catch them off guard, but your absence will simply reinforce the fact that they said, 'These people are what I always thought: judgmental, critical, unprepared to countenance anything.'"
And it is a fine line, isn't it? It really is. And people need to work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. But I think we're going to take that risk. We're going to have to take that risk a lot more if we want to build bridges into the hearts and lives of those who don't understand Jesus and don't understand that he is a King.

The responses by so called Pastors and Teachers giving Satan a sign of the weaknesses of these Church leaders. I wrote John MacArthur an eleven page letter in Hope of having Alistair return to the Shepherds Conference so we can put this explosive issue behind us and I sent Alistair a copy.
Alistair was absolutely correct in his advice given the evidence presented. I think as believers we need to realize when THE BIBLE talks about love and hate it is not this hollywood/worldly understanding, The Bible says that GOD so loved the world it wasnt an emotional type meaning it is a commitment to us as HIS creation that he would make a way for us to be saved. Malachi 1 God says he loved Jacob but hated Esau. He had committed his promise to Jacob's lineage not Esau's. We must put GOD'S words first. Even if there is someone we are close GOD is first. We can be gentle about it but the truth must be told. The BIBLE says the truth will set you free not men"s words. You say the truth and THE HOLY SPIRIT do the work. We must hate our family members if they don't obey GOD, Remember what I said about the word hate. We will side with GOD and not commit to walk in the way our family does.

Many will anyway though - because of his slanderous attack in his sermon on any Christians that are concerned with what he is promoting.

Being very close friends for over 40 years, wonder if pastor John called Pastor Begg to discuss this matter. Hope it or will happen.

Yes, they did speak. They both decided it would be best if Alistair did not attend the Shepherd’s Conference as originally scheduled.
