  • After hours and hours of looking for an aftermarket center console for my Honda Element - I landed on a very unexpected solution… the Ford F-150! Specifically model year 04-08, with automatic floor/center console shifter. Surprisingly very little modification was required. Watch for details, post any questions below.

    I just did this! Took me less than an hour and that included putting my tools away. I used a Dremel Tool to trim off the tabs. Otherwise I followed the video which was reallt easy. Thank you Rich, you just made my (new to me) 2003 Element much more comfortable to drive.
    Edit: I got my console off e-bay for $200 plus $12 shipping.

    I did this! It’s perfect! I also cut up a cheap grey tote from Goodwill and used the plastic to shape the inside a bit more. That way it doesn’t just look like it’s sticking out to nowhere

    I got a black one from a Harley Davidson edition F150 at the junkyard. Looks good, works great. I haven't anchored it yet, it's wedged snugly in between the seats.

    This is nice. Def left some room for improvement on making it a cleaner fit.
    Maybe use that shifter opening for a trash bag holder thing?

      Lots have done that. Some have successfully 3D printed a cup/tray to drop in.

    Thanks for posting! Let me get this straight…you put this right OVER the OEM console and used it as a based to screw/secure the Ford Console?
    Reason why I’m asking is bc my E didn’t come with an OEM console.

      Correct. You can see the oem console through the ebrake access hole at about 1:40. I believe all E’s came with that low console at the very least.

    Howdy, very cool. Did you remove all the inner parts that are hard plastic that route the air to the back?
    And did you remove the seat caps on the bottom insides of the front seats?

      Yes, all the guts came out, only the underside of the arm rest storage remained. I used an oscillating tool to cut off all of the clips where it would attach to the ford.

      It takes a little more push/pull to slide the seats, but they still have full front/back motion.

      I can’t be 100% sure. I know it works with those with the cooler console, it just sits a little further back. Unless you pull out the Honda console base, or cut out the back bottom of the Ford console so it can slide further forward on top of the cooler console base.

    Have you or anyone else tried this with a stick version of the Element? Does it leave enough room for your arm when you shift?

      I can’t say from personal experience, but I don’t see why not. I’ve seen one owner post photos on the Honda Element Owners Group on Facebook. Search “f150” there to find it or post the question.

    Curious which F150 model that was taken from? I've had an F150, Triton V8, SuperCrew & the center console you show is totally different than mine

      This one was from a F150 FX4... but the key is 04-08 models with the 'floor shifter' which basically means the shifter is in the center console, not the stalk on the steering column. That is what gives you the hold to reach through for the Element e-brake.

      You wouldn't have access to the e-brake without the one with the shifter hole on the console.

    I installed an F150 center console today, but now the safety belt alert stays on unless both seat belts are fastened. Any suggestions?

      Sorry, no clue there. I didn’t have that issue, not reports from others. Is it possible an electrical sensor line was cut/pinched/unplugged while installing? Probably not if it goes off when you click the belts it , but worth checking.

      I will check those things. When I remove the console, the seatbelt alert works normal. The fit is extremely tight, so maybe there is something to that. I'm going to play around with it again this weekend.

      Unless you find yourself sliding the seats all the way forward for your bed, should still fit fine.

      As I can best recall- 4 bolts under the front cup holder panel, 4 screws inside bottom of the arm rest glove box (maybe under a piece of felt) and 2 bolts/screws on the front and rear lower sides. You don’t need all the AC tubes ans shifter base. All that can be left inside the truck.

    Is the F-150 armrest more forward than the E armrest?

      I’d say the stock E arm rest is approx the same forward length as the F150, it’s jut wider for both passengers, and provides storage and more elevated cup holders.

      Your install would be even easier. No need to remove the stock E armrest to fit this one.

      @@regalt1987 Yes, as mentioned at 3:28 in the video, you have to remove any arm rests you have. What I meant by my last comment was the install would be easier IF you have no E armrest to remove first. ie, if your E doesn’t have an armrest to begin with.

      It sure could, but that’s the angle/fit it has in order to connect to the Ford dash. I’ve thought about cutting the front bottom to round the hard edge a bit, but would still have space between. Which I need either way because of the sub woofer in the dash.

      You could get some ABS or Kydex plastic sheets and mould a front cover fairly easily. They have black and grey with a texture that will blend with most automotive finishes.

      Everting unbolts. Plastic tabs can be cut out by hand or like butter with oscillating tool.
