You have no idea how many times I have been asked to get the leads of Netflix’s hit show, Young Royals on the podcast and today it’s finally happening. And first up welcome the Prince himself, Edvin Reading to the podcast!
If you haven’t watched the hit Swedish Netflix show yet, it follows Prince Wilhelm, who is sent to boarding school and falls for Simon, played by Omar Rudberg. And when I say you are in for a treat, it's got a 100?% rotten tomatoes rating to prove it.
Today, fresh from the show’s huge second season, Edvin talks about THAT season finale cliffhanger (it's the ultimate coming out scene really, isn't it??!), learning to embrace his differences and he also shares one of the best pieces of advice I have ever heard, which I think we all need to listen to and live by!

At one level, this interview can show us - since they speak a lot about self-awareness - how NOT to be an interviewer. There is an obvious and large difference between critical appraisal and GUSHING. Josh gushes his way through most of this interview. Embarrassing.
That Edvin Ryding was articulate and thoughtful despite the gushing says much. And the contrast between interviewer and interviewee is precisely the distinction - for the most part - between gushing and thinking.
On MENTAL HEALTH: in Season 2 the last interaction between Wilhelm and the counselor is crucial of course. But Wilhelm makes the distinction: "There was the real Erik and the Prince Erik". "And "How hard can it be...?" Etc. The issue of "the double life", of lying and integrity, matters. Of course. BUT, why oh why can viewers not make a distinction between Wilhelm and Edvin Ryding? Or Simon and Omar Rutburg? Failing to do so issues in these often inane and cringe-making "questions" these actors are "subjected to." Oi. Life imitating art.
Of course it's an ensemble performance. But season 2 really is carried by Wilhelm congratulations to Edvin on such a fine performance.
PS: compare - if u dare - Netflix's Elite with Young Royals. Elite is, at best, soft porn now: utterly mindless. A comparison shows the,quality of Young Royals.

This actor is wise beyond his years. I am a therapist and I was super impressed with his reflections and views. What an inspirational individual. It totally comes out the work he does. A truly phenomenal actor.

honestly i feel like that's where we're going pretty soon bc you can even tell he's practiced his "english" dialect in the last year so i feel like he'll be going out for ~hollywood~ roles soon (like can we get him an a24 feature please!!!)
@@k8ieedits he said in an interview that he went to London for a few auditions and there might be some USA/UK project in the future. With that acting skill and resume, I can't imagine him not succeeding in everything he does.
I want to hear more from this wise and sincere young man. I am 59 and I could listen to his heart and things he is learning all day. He is really amazing.

I’ve never seen such a young person be this well spoken. He always says exactly what needs to be said with such beauty and intelligence. You can tell he radiates kindness and cares about everyone he interacts with and is just so humble. All that aside, he is also one of the BEST actors I have ever seen on screen. I become more in awe realizing how long he has been acting for, and how much longer he has left to grow as a person. Like he’s only 19 but has so much maturity for his age. Pure talent. It also always shocked me how well people speak English as their second language. I could go on forever but to conclude, thank you for this
Edvin is utterly brilliant in so many ways. He is so obviously multi-faceted and multi-talented. I think the trait that carries him is the way in which he cares about the world. One cannot contain so many qualities and not contain the same amount of love.

Edvin's command of the English language is very impressive for a Swedish 19 year old, so much so that he could easily teach English at any school in Sweden, or anywhere else in fact!

Edvin is AMAZING. I'm older and have experienced a lot. Watching him in season 1 was the same way I felt seeing Tom Holland in The Impossible or Leonardo DiCaprio in This Boy's Life. He's going to have an incredible career. The best is yet to come.

I am so SO grateful for this wonderful interview as it feels like forever since we've binged YR season 2, and it's kind of the first time we get the PHENOMENAL Edvin Ryding to extensively reflect on the show. @@darktwistedlady Very well said. As he stated, he ocassionally was left to his own devices at a young age in the industry which made him scrutinize human behavior. He observed & assessed the way people treated him and others, and that led him to come up with some strong values concerning friendship, collaboration and respect. He radiates joy whenever you see him interact with others which is a trademark of emotionally balanced people. HIs strong personality will enable him to be succesfull in the industry and, at the same time, live a happy, balanced private life. I sceolled through his insta once, and read an incredible post about the importance of emotions, the connections between toxic masculinity and the high suicide rated for men, and he lamented over how boys & men get so many messages about not crying, being "tough" etc, worrying about his litttle brother losing his rich natural emotions from thw social pressure of toxic masculinity.
He wrote it when he was 15.

this is one of the best interviews ive ever watched in my entire life. the questions were really really interesting, the whole conversation felt very natural and edvin really put his heart in every answer. i just got into young royals but i already admire him a lot. great actor and great person. congrats on the video both of you!!

this was so beautiful to listen to, edvin expresses himself with such maturity and intelligence, i could listen to him for hours
The bravery that Edvin displays in his vulnerability to his private life, the continuity of his own personality with the roles he enacts is absolute credit to his integrity. His is a super intelligent, introspective, emotionally sensitive, such a gifted and talented guy who is totally at ease in his skin. Dealing with his 'coming out' was so emotionally precious and inspiring there is a transcendental purity that invites you to love him, just feel love for this terrific guy. If he and Simon made it, more credit. Mostly Edvin's integrity makes the splash: surely being in his position to enact, grow and continually mature in his subsequent roles, is a gift he really appreciates. His modesty is legend, absolute babe-boned exposure to his most sensitive pockets of secrets, demonstrates what it means to mature without arrogance. If he and Simon area item, go for it: if not where on earth will he find a mate to meet his emotional needs with the strength to love him as the differentiated angel that he is. Angels are blond with mullets.
Let's just ignore for one moment how cute and literally every other adjective in this world edvin is, and take a moment to appreciate the guy, who is doing the interview! He's adorable omg, I love the way he acts and speeks to edvin!!
Totally agree! Honestly back then in spring 2022 when I stumbled upon him doing this great insightful interview with Kit Connor - I kinda fell in love with Josh and the amazing way he listens to and communicates with his guests.. 🧡

OMG! Super funny and intelligent . He should be a script writer or director. He actually made a lot of proposals and improvised scenes. Loved the part with the birthday presents, the way he reprimanded his parents! As parents we can also learn from this, how our kids needs us in so many ways. I love his take on mental health issues. I love how casual this interview is, I’ve seen so many Young Royals interviews but it’s so refreshing seeing Edvin smile and laugh and answer questions that aren’t just about the make-out scenes

The interviewer ruined the last scene of season 2 for me and those who haven't watched it by bluntly ruining it. Edvin ryding seem like a mature actor for his age. His chemistry with Omar is wonderful.

Edvin is so articulate, compassionate, intelligent and genuine. People keep saying he's an old soul and I agree. Perhaps it is partly due to the profession he's been at since young age and it hasn't always been easy. It grows a person. Don't know if this is the case, but nevertheless he seems happy now. I hope to see him keep acting and doing what he loves. Shall keep up with his works in the future.

What a great interview, I loved listening to Edvin on how he evolved on his role as prince Wilhem. Reaching this moment in his career is an actor's dream, to be able to produce the cliffhanger of a show like Young Royals, which by the way, paved the way to a mandatory season 3. To identify with those moments in which he was not well treated in the past. As a retired actor myself (I am 78.5 years old), I had some very tough moments with stage directors in my country, that at times had to do with miss casting me or my interpretation of roles, which turned out to work very well as I was doing it, I identified very much with Edvin and his disposition to support a better treatment towards young actors. I look forward to seeing more of his work as an actor and I wish for him the very best, as keeps moving along his career. Well done Edvin.
