  • (UPDATE: 12/31/21) This video was previously only viewable via my Patron page. To close out the New Year I am making it publicly viewable. These are the outtakes and some of the extra footage from the crossing Alone Across An Ocean video ( • Sailing Alone Across a... )
    Hello Friends,
This is an episode of clips I couldn't fit into the long format video but felt they would be of interest to sailors. I shot over 300 video files over the 32 days at sea and A LOT of stuff ended up on the cutting room floor. This episode is a collection of some of those outakes. Its a rough edit and meant to be a supplement to the Alone Across an Ocean episode. I have formatted it with the day headers so you have an idea of the timeline the same as I did with the longer video.
The drone footage has no sound on it because no drone footage has sound unless the editor adds some in post. That footage is me fighting the drones automatic attempt to return to the location it took off from several miles astern of Triteia, a function it would not let me turn off before I flew it because the GPS signal in the ocean on my iPhone was so weak. I crash landed it into the cockpit and suffered some pretty bad cuts to my hands trying to remove the battery since it would not shut down. It maybe broken from the crash but at least it didn't end up in the ocean.
Other than that its mostly just footage of me talking about ships business.

It takes an extraordinary amount of courage to cross an ocean alone in a 30ft boat.

Hey man super cool! I am planning this trip solo also in the summer of 24’ interestingly Michael Mann back in 82’ did this trip in a Montgomery 15 “Little Breeze” in 38 days. I just finished the book “Little Breeze to the West” and he had a wild ride! No GPS, broke his sextant so he navigated by DR.he thought he was aiming for Maui (middle of islands for fudge factor) he ended up spotting as island thought it was Hawaii and considered sailing a bit more west. He actually just clipped Kauai. If he had missed it next stop Japan!

Didn't really follow the ending .. But presume you mean you were having trouble setting the anchor bec of the lost rudder? Didn't see the waves you mentioned. Were you towed In? I see you being tied into the slip. But was that your intention all along? Maybe to get rudder fixed? You can see how interesting it all Was -- your story I mean, that I have questions. :) Epic trip across that big ocean by yourself. Wonderful human spirit. Glad it all worked out. You're a great sailor from what I can tell .. Calm under pressure ..thank you for sharing your trip. Most enjoyable
