"Rock, Rock, Rock!," the 1956 black-and-white film starring Cleveland disc jockey and "the King of Rock 'n' Roll" Alan Freed as himself, told the story of a teenage girl trying to gather the money she needs to buy a gown for an upcoming dance. A number of performances -- including those by Hall of Fame inductees Chuck Berry, LaVern Baker, the Flamingos, Frankie Lymon and the Teengers and the Moonglows -- move the picture along and provide its rock and roll soundtrack.
In this clip, Freed introduces the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum's 2012 American Music Masters honoree Chuck Berry, who delivers his signature moves over "You Can't Catch Me." rockhall.com/inductees/chuck-b... - Hudba
Chuck Berry was the guy who the Beatles and Rolling Stones had in common and both groups loved what he did. Chuck was way ahead of his time as a lyricist and was such a great guitarist.
The way he was able to hook up the video camera in the women's toilet, no easy but chuck would do anything to watch a woman have a dump, pure class 👍
way ahead of any time as a lyricist imo ......you can't catch him as a lyricist
@redfox7490 You know, it's pretty petty to only see the bad in someone when they make a few mistakes, and overlook all the great things they did in their life entirely. We're all human beings, and we make mistakes. Stop being so vindictive and shunning people constantly, when, I guarantee you've done something just as bad, or maybe even worse at some point in your life. You may actually find joy one day if you can just learn to forgive.
Pimpin' women for decades. Ran brothels not for a few weeks or years, but decades.
@@huntergreen1767 Berry also stole songs from pianist Johnnie Johnson. You don't think that Berry wrote all of those songs by himself do you? Johnson was going to sue but time ran out. Listen to numerous songs and you'll notice that they are NOT guitar songs but piano songs - for example, "Roll Over Beethoven".
RIP Chuck, from a Beatles fan in Liverpool who (like the Beatles themselves) acknowledges the massive influence of Berry on their career. A Legend.
Chuck has ole' blacktop moving up quicky.... Beatles chose slowly

A hundred years from now, Chuck will be remembered as one of the greatest American songwriters of his day.
Chuck and Little Richards are modern Rock & Roll founders....
I doubt it. Do you remember the greatest songwriters of the 1920's? Don't cheat and look it up.

almost every rock star in history has done a remake of a chuck berry song. this guy influenced EVERYBODY!
Não consigo achar grandes similaridades entre a duas músicas.
You could also say he was influenced by the guitar playing of Sister Rosetta Tharpe. Little Richard was also influenced by her.
Chuck berry watched me having a big shite in the toilet, although he did not tell me he was secretly video taping me.
@@redfox7490 Shut your stupid ignorant mouth you asshole. How dare you make a stupid juvenile junior high comment on a Chuck Berry video, If you think you;re being funny, I have news for you YOU"RE NOT

John Lennon says : Rock and Roll is Chuck Berry!
Yes! Come Together!
He also said check for cameras if you where having a shite at Chucky's house 💩
Here come up flattop
Yeah he did , he said if they are gonna rename rock n roll, they should call it Chuck Berry
@@redfox7490 What? Is that a joke? I don't get it, if it is, but if it's not, I _must_ hear the explanation. Please, indulge me.
This man influenced so many of the biggest artists in history. Come Together!
Yes! He doesn't get enough credit for what he did!
Come together is a good example
Lennon fu accusato di plagio ma poi trovo' un accordo col produttore di Berry ... lavoro' su dei pezzi rock'n roll e nacque un' album. Grandi entrambi ...
He was good at transporting young girls across state lines for prostitution, his armed robbery charges, putting up cameras in the women's bathroom., swearing at his audience, forgetting his songs when playing live and walking off the stage. Could use some work on his melodies. What a guy.
@@samantacampa3857 Ci sono infatti casi ben piu' eclatanti e non mi sentirei mai di parlare di plagio in questo caso e non per difendere Lennon ma proprio oggettivamente.
This looks super cool now! Imagine What it must have looked like in 1956....!!!!
Not only was Chuck Berry a bitchin' guitar player, and top-notch songwriter, he had the comedic timing of Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton!
Yep a good day for berry was watching a woman have a dump in the toilet , sick pervert 😂😂😂

There is NOTHING in history that is more rock n roll than THIS
Chuck Berry the greatest rock and roll musician that ever lived.
Nope! Not even close.
He is a legend in himself and this sample is the best example.
David Blues they also did a cover of one of his songs to so he isn’t just a legend he is a god.
Ghccoolj a cover???? Your a Fucking joke, like 12 covers
Chuck Berry is the one direct connection from Beatles to Stones. I hear Jagger in this song.
He was already a legend before Lennon ripped off (what they used to call 'sampling') his lyrics for Come Together. Don't need whitebread Beatles to validate great black music.
@@drewwolf533 you're right.
I can see why the kids went crazy for him. So much carisma and God given talent. I wish I would have been lucky enough to have seen the king Chuck Berry in concert. Keef and the Stones loved him so much
Fat Domino, Little Richard and Chuck Berry are all pioneers of Rock & Roll they will forever remain legends may all of them rest in peace.
NOBODY ... wrote a song with such perfect meter as Chuck Berry.
Dancing while playing that guitar. Just amazing!
Well, in this video he was miming & lip-syncing to a record. Note: no guitar cord, no amp, no mic.
Sweet Little Sixteen = Surfin USA = Back in the USSR = 100 other songs. That's how rock music works. The DNA of every rock song always goes back to the beginning.
Chuck was the roots of every great rock artist, no doubt.
Love the way he illustrates the story he's singing and playing. He's doing about 4 or 5 things at once here.
He is miming. That's how.
Dim Bulb He's not really singing and playing here.
that is so ..
it would eventually be called "lip-syncing" 😮
Chuck berry is the personification of rock and roll
Damn, coronavirus lockdown got me listenin to all types of music
You shouldve been done that
Lisyen to punk rock
Yes, time to explore music made before 2015. Amazing but it exists.
Use your right hand
Lol there’s only one reply that makes sense
I had the anthology CD for many years and always skipped this song. One day I let it play through and heard the "here c'mon flat top" line...I never knew about the "Come Together" connection and it blew my mind. Rock and roll has a lot of surprises, especially with the internet and CZcams revealing so much information.
He makes his guitar sound like a whole band is playing with him. Amazing.
One is, lol!
not really cos there is a band playing with him
@@bryanleigh6497 Right on! He was playin with a whole band. Peace, M.A.

My favorite is his 1956 wireless guitar

Chuck Berry i remember seeing this on TV in the 80's when i was a kid thinking this is some cool music, Chuck berry was amazing.
Some of my favorite Chuck Berry footage......R.I.P.- Mr. Berry, the true king & father of rock 'n' roll......
Man, there's some songs that just take you back in time, this is one of them!
it’s the way he actions out the whole somg while playing the guitar with ease. Something else
Sure could make you want to get up and dance. RIP, Chuck Berry, age 90.
I saw this in a rock movie when I was a bike riding kid...I couldn't believe that such talented people walked the planet along with me...they was like supernatural to this country boy.

The real king of rock 'n' roll. It all starts with Chuck.
Love it when ppl get on Wikipedia to read about Chuck Berry then post it like they are an early rock and roll historian. Been listening to him since I was a young kid. 67 yr old now and I have CB on my hifi now.🤣
I saw this movie when it came to town...I was amazed...I was from the countryside...heard the man but seeing him is so much more more.
Love this and love the fact that is influenced the Beatles Come Together, later Brilliantly covered by MJ. So Chuck, Paul, John and Michael thank you for these tracks that have kept us dancing and rocking over the last 70 years. 😊
For the life of me I don't see how this is anything like Come Together. I guess there was a lawsuit but I can't hear it.
@@baronvonnemblesPaul McCartney himself admited that. The intial Lennon's version reminded too much Chuck Berry's song so they had to slow it down. Look for the video and listen to Paul's words.
the grand grand father of rock & roll. One of the first rock & rollers.
I became a fan when I saw Chuck perform this in a movie in the fifties. It's a story in just a few minutes. Delightful.
Chuck influenced so many rockers and blues artists that followed him decades later. RIP chuck.
Almost everyone knows that You Can't Catch Me was that song that inspired Lennon to write Come Together. As a matter of fact, John Lennon also covered the song You Can't Catch Me for his 1975 covers album Rock N Roll.
Bob Seger sang "All Chuck's children are out there, playin' his licks" ... RIP Chuck Berry, you were the Man. Rock would not be rock without you.
The King of Rock n Roll
Whether in music or life in general, I'll never understand why some people think they have to criticize one to elevate another. Chuck has his place in greatness & it can never be taken away from him. Like only a handful of other artists, everything that has followed was either directly or indirectly influenced by him.
that's the real king of rock n roll!
Amen to that and I love Elvis too. Chuck was 1st though and his style is timeless. Watch Jimi Hendrix videos and you'll see some of his moves preformed a decade earlier by Chuck.
Hell, a couple of years ago I saw Slash duckwalking. As long as people are still playing electric guitars, Chuck's legacy will be there.
Angus Young of AC/DC also copied Chuck's moves.

One of Chuck's great and one of his great b&w "sync'd" film performances - great moves in relation to the lyrics. And, yeah, that Gretsch Duo-Jet. RIP Our Man of Rock 'n' Roll. You were and are the greatest!
I love that Gretsch. Real clue that this is lip sync.
Still fresh after all these years. I love you Chuck Berry.
You can visualize his storytelling and his music is the perfect complimentary soundtrack
This man is such a legend... unreal. Absolutely unreal.
Rest in peace Chuck, thanks for giving us music, thanks for giving us the rock and roll.
The greatest rock n roller, he wrote, he played the greatest riffs ever
That duck walk at the end
This guy was so ahead of his time... look at those moves, listen to the music and the lyrics... 1956?? ...a real Master, the father of R'N'R.
for my money Chuck is the undisputed godfather of rock 'n' roll.
Mr. Rock'n'Roll.. can't get any better than this
gone like a cool breeze. Rest in peace
The rock and roll is the God of the music.
This is the quintessential video of Chuck Berry if you never knew what the Father of Rock n Roll looked like. R.I.P Guitar God!!!
Father of rock maybe. But he would be nothing without sister rossetta tharp
Man, the duck was just too cool for words. Chuck Berry had a great sense of humour.
Baby you're tuned to Rock and roll🎧 look at that duck walk just pure classic rip Chuck
Pioner and father of rock & roll. RIP mister Chuck roll.
Chuck was a tough businessman too. If you booked Chuck for a show you had to provide the band, a specific amp setup (Fender Dual Showman’s, otherwise the price went up), and he insisted on being paid in cash before he ever played a note onstage. He was also rumored to travel with a .38 revolver in his guitar case
Without Chuck Berry, there would have been no Beatles, Stones, or Elvis as we know them
I used to rush home from school to play this 78!
Chuck definitely was a true showman and his music influenced so many bands.

Chuck got the kids jumpin in 1956🎶
Not only was he a rock and roll godfather he was also a melodic rapper, Chuck was spitting/singing straight bars and it all rhymed 🔥✊🏾🙏🏾

I think it was a bit exaggerated for that one line like how oasis mention yellow Submarine supersonic I think it was more of a reference I don’t think the song sounds that much alike
@@scarygarey3271 to be fair, the rhythm and cadence with which Lennon sang Come Together is also very similar to how Chuck Berry sings this song. There’s also the “juju” lyric near the end of this song that could also arguably be seen as having inspired John.
I dont hear any resemblance at all to "Come Together."

BTW, Chuck loved John Lennon. It was the publisher who sued. In Chuck's film, Hail, Hail, Rock & Roll, Chuck insisted that Julian perform "Johnny B. Goode." Listen to Chuck introducing Julian & you can hear how much he loved John. Chuck never forgot how John promoted him to a younger audience.

I love all the Rock & Roll music from the 50's, was born in 68, and have a father whose knowledge of the most obscure singers and regional groups, is uncanny.
My parents played the early music I grew to play, and lets get one thing straight, Rock & Roll is a mix of Country Blue Grass, Blues, along with a few other genre, so lets not get into ownership and who created it.
Its a beautfull mix, And Its AMERICAN,,, The Raucous little rebel of the world.
