Thank you. I have been researching domes for use in Central America and your bamboo dome made with the plastic pipe connectors is a great idea. Poor people here build with what they can find and many things do not last because of weather, sun and destructive insects. I am working on solutions for this area and the problem has been price. Bamboo is here but we will need more to be grown for harvesting. I have decided to build mine and cover with aircrete. I might need to find other cheap ways to cover, but no others seem to work here or for long term use. They do try Maya ways of building for poor, but have lost the art of long term use. Again, best cheap idea for building for poor people!

    English Description
Bamboo Geodesic dome V2 self-construction and "Zero Waste project" by Fabio Mao Valletta
Geodesic dome V2 self-construction , diameter 4,4m, bamboo and polyethilene joints, Zero Waste project, clean up in nature and bioremediation of plastic by Pleurotus ostreatus mycelium. English Italian, and Spanish languages description.
I'm just sharing a way to realize it. Others tips are Welcome
    materials used:
    65 segments of bamboo
    polietilene tubes
    26 nuts and bolts
    Let's start
select segments of intact and resistant bamboo, which do not have holes, fractures or are houses of insects
Cut bamboo segments, with an hacksaw, in two sizes (A-1.23m and B-1.09m), trying to keep the same diameter on the ends
cut off possible lateral growths on the bamboo
polyethylene pipes recycled by cleaning the nearby countryside sometimes used as an illegal landfill
mark the tubes at about 20-25 cm
cut the pipes with pruning shears or strong shears
prepare at least 70 sections of pipes
Check that the pipe sections are fitting on the bamboo segments according to the diameters of each piece
shape the polyethylene joints by heating them with a flame or heat gun, then tighten one end with a vice to be able to overlap them and fix with bolts
    heat joints at one end,
heat near the tip and turning constantly
be careful not to burn the plastic (dioxin is toxic!)
compress in a vice fold on 16-18 degrees and hold in position for several seconds
    joint compressed to one end
    drill the flattened end
bevel the edges with a scissors or grinding wheel
3 dimensions and diameters of polyethylene joints
    I like "Zero waste"
ideas so enjoy a solution for
    not dispersing plastic
some precautions for not dispersing plastic
    some plastic powder
    clean up the plastic produced
plastic residues products ready to be digested from the mythical mushroom pleurotus ostreatus
Put the plastic waste in a container with some kitchen vegetable residues like coffee, tea bags and oiled papers
I recommend keeping the container closed with mycelium and plastic residues near the sink
in order to add the coffee grounds until the container is completely full
Before to build the Geodesic prepares the components and do some checks
    prepare 26 nuts and bolts
    130 polyethylene joints ready
    some more test
testing of polyethylene joints to form polygons 6 to 5 ways 10 to 4 ways and 10 to 6 ways
insert and force the joints on the bamboo segments
when necessary, warm up the joints or use some sticks to fix them at the best
check about dimensions of the 35 bamboo sticks A-1,30m
check igual dimensions of the 30 bamboo sticks B-1.20m previously marked
test of stability of the joints on bamboo
    begin to assemble the structure
form a decahedron with long bamboo segments A
add segments forming triangles alternating the two dimensions of bamboo
complete the base and join the joints with the bolts
lift the triangles and continue joining segments
little by little… ..piece after piece .....
    complete the first level
    continue to the upper level
second level forming alternating hexagons and pentagons
finally close the structure with the last pentagon
    tighten the bolts
    mission complete
nice easy cheap simply of the best

poco a poco ... pieza tras pieza ...
    Gracias y finalmente a relájarse

    Descrizione in italiano
    marcare i tubi a circa 20-25 cm
    prepariamo 26 dadi e bulloni
    130 giunti in polietilene pronti
    qualche altro test
poco a poco …..pezzo dopo pezzo.....
    completare il primo livello
    continuare con il livello superiore
nel secondo livello formare esagoni e pentagoni alternati
    stringere i bulloni
    missione compiuta
bello, facile, economico, semplicemente del meglio.
    Ringrazio e finalmente relax

Bamboo does not grow in the high desert climate where I live , could this work with lodge pole pine? Also it would be great to hear more about the bioremediation of plastic via mycology. My dad developed insitu ( on site , microbe and , hydrogen peroxide and microbes were injected into contaminated ground water) bioremediation of hydrocarbons in the 1980's this was sued at several superfund sites as well as fuel tank leaks into ground water in North America.

Bioremediation is always a great and necessary work, thanks to your dad too (would be lovely to know more about his work). about poles, you can adapt to the source material more aviable near you, pine's poles can work too, I suggest to treat them with fire or waxes...I believe that this kind of structures can be used perfectly to remediate soils, covering them from weather changes, rainfalls and boosting bacterias and mushrooms growing. I hope to be able to soon update some videos about mushrooms remediation and training to remediate plastics too.

Thanks for sharing. I encourage you to check out the videos of my geodesic dome design. Three years ago I created an all-ages dome design that is definitely cheap and can definitely be used by anyone. I'm going to be experimenting with aircrete too! Cheers.
