This was very informative. I'm getting my traps ready now. I run traps early and late in the season like you mentioned. Capt Bruce makes quality traps. I have a mix of his and retail store bought traps. I still use vinyl box traps from over 20 years ago and they are still holding up. I'm planning to make a trip when we get some consistent warm weather.

New sub. I'm glad I found your channel. Moving to the eastern shore soon and plan on learning how to fish and go crabing out of my kayak

I made my own ring nets years ago. They slammed crabs. I had crossed bait lines in the bottom of pegged them with 4 separate chicken necks. One good quick pull would lock them in the bottom. And then steady pull to the top of the water. I got rather good at telling if I had 1 crab or 2 crabs. But because I had 4 necks every once and while I would get trips or quads. You could just tell by pulling them up. I don't have my nets anymore. Long gone and long story. I would like to build new ones. But my supplier of nets is gone. And I have no idea what size they were or number they were. I have never heard of this captain Bruce until watching your channel. Do you think he would be able to help me out?
    Thanks Alan Knight.

Wanted to ask about the Promar 32-Inch Lobster and Crab Net, I just so happen to have 2 of these. Would this net be illegal to use in Maryland?

Novice crabber here (be nice!). I noticed there wasn't a float on the topless box traps. If you don't have a float, won't the string lay on top of the bait like the ring net?

I'm going to try crabbing with those rings. How long do you let them soak? How long do you wait to move if you don't catch any? Chicken necks or shad in Florida? thanks in advance
