Went to Australia for a month back in 2000. Sydney Harbor for the millenium. My wife aned I both cried like little kids when it was time to come back to the United States. Best vacation ever. Fabulous people. Not a day goes by without thinking about the greatest place that we've ever been to. Miss you GSL...
That's really touching Steve. I love your people, and see more and more of you here as time goes on. Hope you make it back one day (it's been so long since your post, you probably have been back since). So long
Mate back in 2000 I worked flat out at Sydney airport arriving and maintaining hundreds of flights from all over the world coming in for the millennium and Olympics, might have been me working on your plane. 😲 I always loved talking to the American pilots as I'm half Yankee myself. 🇦🇺🇺🇸
Haven't I seen you there at the time Steve? Been there too for the turn of the millennium. Unforgettable!!! Just my way was a bit shorter from the Sunshine Coast, Qld Australia. Been now in Down Under 40 years, from Germany, just tooo happy😊
Don't worry, we Aussies think of it as one of our unofficial national anthems (we've got about 20 of them, honestly). Others include "You're the Voice" by John Farnham and the classic song "Waltzing Matilda".
Many years ago , I used to run up a hill near my home from the river to keep fit, when I got to the top I sat down to catch my breath and listen to this song whilst enjoying the view and think to myself how much i loved growing up in a small country town in Australia.
exactly the same right here... take me with you. The perfect tune that made me homesick for a place which cannot be any further away from home on the entire planet.
Born in Oz on Mallee farming country, and I hated the dry, dry dry..... It took me many years to appreciate this land. The vast blue skies, the sheer size and space, and ...right out there in the desert, the reverberating SILENCE! Love the silence....
I used to put a few tunes on when I was lying in bed in the dark years and years ago in a grim terraced house in a north English industrial town, this song somehow transported me thousands of miles away to Australia, I’ll probably never get there physically but somehow I feel like this song carried me there. A fantastic song that I always go back to from time to time.
Im so dying to go to Australia. I love the people and the land. I'm so drawn to go there. I have many friends in Australia. God Bless Australia. Much love from The USA.
It's strange, when you read the lyrics how much you can relate to the song, I don't know if the people who live in the big cities and towns get it, because now for the last year I have lived in the city, but before this I grew up in the bush behind the Sunshine Coast, and have worked from Brisbane to Charleville, from Tully to Berri, from Albany to Port Hedland and from Darwin to Innamincka and you can feel the spirit, in the deserts, or the rainforests or the rocky bush of the channel country,
It's very similar here in the U.S. when you get out into the western deserts and the rockies... It's like stepping into a different dimension. And yes, there's definitely a spiritual feeling you get. And aura that takes over. There are just certain places upon this Earth that seem to take over the mind and make you feel as if you're at one with nature or whatever it is in the great open lands.
Enjoy Australia day today my fellow Aussie and Aboriginal people....we must learn to come together and become as one in this great country we live in....we are truly blessed to be living in such a beautiful country....
Great Song from the 80's. An underrated Band with fabulous Songs. Makes a shiver to hear this song, when closing my eyes,i nearly can see this beautiful land.
In 2017 we Travelled to Australia, to visit our daughter, 26 Hours journey from Germany, but when we arrived in Sydney, it was Love at First sight, wonderful Country, lovely people, and Form eines, it was the First visit, but Not the last, and this Song was my favourite ohne in the eighties, but now i Fan feel Australia Listeneinstellung this aweful song, thanks for it Icehouse.
Itravelledt to Australia about 20 years ago, on my own. Would not like to miss that experience. and of course I would like to go back for a longer stay.
Ursula that's a pretty brave thing to do on your own! It has become very crowded in the cities over the past 20 years, and very expensive as a result, but it is still beautiful wherever you go. As beautiful as Germany! Machts gut x

I didnt hear this for years, until my teacher played it randomly in the middle of class, a lovely childhood memory hearing this song. Considering its like 30 years old, most Australians probably know it, and maybe some others! My whole class started singing "Great southern land!" And they were like screaming it and the whole school could probably hear them
The Aboriginals used to burn the bush to encourage new plant growth to attract animals, also to clear the overgrowth to make hunting and access easier.
Great song and animation . I stay there for 8 month , you can provide information on the locations of the recordings . Some I know , Sydney , and then the image is Bondi Beach and Uluru . But I really want to also visit the other places .
I love this song above all others, very moving, spiritual, it seems to really honor the the great people of Australia, God I wish I could live there, Every Australian I everet was very polite and so full of life. This song truly nails it down!
Marre de la France je vais me barrer la bas voir mon amie, mon pays perd la boule, loin de tout ce bordel,j'y suis allé....depuis longtemps déjà, in my head ,bones, spirituel, embrasse, vive Oz!!

I'm from Australia and listening to this from Turkey. I always seem to listen to aussie songs while overseas. Greatest country on Earth!
WTF ARE YOU DOING THERE
@@jasonwest2698 Seems to have left what was the greatest country on earth.
Without animosity to offend the Australians, I consider this song as the Australian Anthem.
Don't worry, we Aussies think of it as one of our unofficial national anthems (we've got about 20 of them, honestly). Others include "You're the Voice" by John Farnham and the classic song "Waltzing Matilda".
No offence I agree
I used to lie in a field a few miles from my house and listen to this song over and over. Been called to Australia my whole life. Maybe it's time. :)
the interior of australia is vast and magical, to drive around its coastal edges is also totally epic, just saying :)
Many years ago , I used to run up a hill near my home from the river to keep fit, when I got to the top I sat down to catch my breath and listen to this song whilst enjoying the view and think to myself how much i loved growing up in a small country town in Australia.
If you can hear a didgeridoo through this piece... it's time.
Hope you got here and it was everything you expected it to be...and more! 😎🏄♂️

Yea I get it. If you have travelled the seemingly never ending outback its a lot easier to relate to the song. Love this country.
It's very similar here in the U.S. when you get out into the western deserts and the rockies... It's like stepping into a different dimension. And yes, there's definitely a spiritual feeling you get. I'm a Kiwi but I've loved this for years! It's so emotive. Enjoy it all my Aussie mates.
You are lucky to be this away from the rest.
Enjoy Australia day today my fellow Aussie and Aboriginal people....we must learn to come together and become as one in this great country we live in....we are truly blessed to be living in such a beautiful country....
I'm really wanting to learn more about the Aboriginal people. I keep dreaming about them.

I wrote a little poem in my native language dedicated to Australia

From a Pom, love this song. Hope to visit you Aussies some day!
The Aboriginals used to burn the bush to encourage new plant growth to attract animals, also to clear the overgrowth to make hunting and access easier.
They would also light a fire beneath 2 trees burning the base of them black which indicated a doorway to their tribes area.
Super Video, tolle Rhythmus! I like it!

By the way Carlos, "Great Southern Land" in Latin is translated to "Magna Terra Australis".
