    Rob shows us how to make a cool tote bag out of 2.5 inch strips of precut fabric (jelly rolls). Rob used Road Trip Rolie Polie by Kelly Panacci for Riley Blake. Learn how to sew boxed corners and attach a handle.

    Rob to give you a tip about you triangle bottom pieces. Since your not cutting them, attach a button at the tip of the triangle on both sides of the bag. Now you have a reversible bag.
    Awesome bag Rob.

    Fabulous bag for almost $40. Will try it first with scraps, of which I have many. I'm sure I can come up with a reasonable facsimile Love the use of the zig-zag for strength.

    I just finished mine with a couple of tweaks (because I never follow directions exactly). I sewed my strips in pairs first with open sides facing then in pairs again and again until it was all sewn together. I also did my handles differently, more like a fabric grocery sack. Thanks for getting me inspired.

  • @bethcooley9224
    @bethcooley9224 Před 7 lety +1

    i just finished this. It looks great. I strongly advise sewing the pieces as he shows, unless you like waves (ask me how I know?) The bag looks amazing. I took a viewers advice and added buttons to the flaps and added a closure flap with the left over strips, I had two, and made it look like the handle. I then made a small opening between two pieces to act as a button hole and placed a button on both sides to keep it reversible. It is a gift for someone who follows on Facebook so I can't send a picture.....yet. Thanks for this wonderful idea.

    I am thinking Christmas presents. Who wouldn't want a bag like that? Thinking a bit out of the box, I could take the one side (no longer being reversible)and put laminate (the do it yourself is soooo much cheaper then purchasing fabric already laminated) over the fabric and I could use it as a great beach bag. Ideas are stirring. I truly enjoy your tutorials and look forward to them every week.

      I am cheating and will use a bias tape maker (I plan on making lots of bags). I have been looking in my mail box every day waiting for it to come. I will use a 2" one and most of the stores don't carry it and neither does MSQC (the first place I looked). I will post a picture when I finish my bag. I fluff up like a proud peacock when I make something and can't wait to show it off especially to people who appreciate the time and effort.

    Almost forgot this hint I learned about binding, make sure bottom side is a 2 mm bigger, that way you never miss it when you sew on top

    A lot of sewing machines have an overcast setting - use that for the side of the bag rather than a zig zag. Or if you have an overlocker a rolled hem might look nice in very tight satin stitch.

    There is a tool called the sasher. You can pick it up in multi sizes. Fold first inch then put through tool, pin to ironing board and run and sasher down the length of fabric. Comes from Australia.

    You should use a edge joining foot to keep the strips lined. When you use it you don't have to worry so much when sewing them together the just feed up in the join it perfect.
