I lived in Sandiacre, my parents always used to take me to the stock cars. Absolutely loved it,Coventry too and Skegness.
Crying shame what's happened, so many memories.

A fantastic film--so many memories of PROPER stock car racing, and a wonderful track.

I remember the old stock buses coming to LE as early 90s my mum and dad ran the off licence on corner of Recreation Street opposite Tenants Chippy. We loved Wednesday and Saturday nights. Nottingham road was always full of double parked cars each side the road. We could hear the stocks in Toton and sometimes if the wind blew right, in Sawley too. It was a very "community' thing for LE and put us on the map. Speedway too built our town for many years. Shame it's all gone 😒 now we just concrete jungle with a potential stupid bread knife on its way to cut LE in two that we don't need. Just electrify the MML and make do with what we have to save the Biodiversity of our town and countryside.

I was there and the chippy is still there. We used to park in a little car park in a side street opposite the main entrance on Station Road - some sports ground I think. Now the track is a pile of dolls' houses and a complete eyesore. All the promises of re-opening the track never happened and it wasn't because any locals complained.
Seeing those stox coming through the bends and overtaking the slower cars was fantastic.

Of course, in the early day those aerofoils or whatever they call them on the roofs of the cars were not used! I have some old b&w prints (well-worn now) taken with an old box camera of some of the cars in the pits in the seventies. I must try and get them digitalised.
There's a book about Long Eaton Speedway - bot nothing about the Stox.
Occasionally Stock Car racing featured on ITV's Sunday sports programme but as far as I know it was never filmed at long Eaton - usually Northampton (Brafield) or elsewhere.
The stadium went into liquidation (well it's owners did) in 1995 so all racing ended and it lay idle till it was bulldozed in 2010 - a very sad day.
