Steve Sarkisian and Dan Lanning in Joel Klatt’s top 3 Alabama HC candidates | Joel Klatt Show
• Steve Sarkisian and Da... - Sport
Sark is not going to leave TX. He's got everything that AL has w/o the pressure of following the GOAT. Sark did a great job at Bama but he's not coming back.
not only that but he has Arch in the wings waiting for his turn and Texas has no state income.
@@darrylbrown8253 Arch is not good enough to sway a coach. What will keep Sark at TX is several things: massive resources, not following Saban, and (the most important, imo) he is building his own thing at TX.
You don't understand a competitors mentality.
being at alabama literally saved his life, who knows. if a guy is worried about pressure of a program he's not the right guy. lol
You can say the same thing of Lanning. Plus easier route to the playoffs, no problem being top-10 in recruiting every year, probably _more_ NIL resources than Alabama -- and then you don't have to follow the GOAT, less pressure, etc.
when the time comes, the 30 for 30 about Nick Saban is going to be an awesome documentary to watch.
Do they stipple make 30 for 30s?
Dan Lanning already said he turned down the job. He isn't leaving Oregon 😂.
While I dont think Lanning will come, I will say Nick Saban also said he turned down the Alabama job while he was at Miami. I think most coaches will deny until they negotiate the contract they want and if they don't get it they can still save face with their current team
@@sf6040 lol...he aint going
Lanning posted a video on his Twitter. He's staying.
Dan Lanning has said he is out. Not sure he was ever in but he is not option. Sark is not leaving Texas now that they are part of the SEC. Lane Kiffin makes the right choice. He wants the job and he has done a very good job at Ole Miss.
Lane Kiffin isnt going to alabama. He had a bad experience coaching at alabama and it ended on bad terms. If you had an employer you hated working for would you go back and work for them if you didnt have to? No of course not. Its going to be dabo, there isnt really any other high profile coach who is willing to take the job.
Lane has too much baggage.
Wrong. I’m kinda thinking Alabama gets Kalen Deboer from Washington
Agreed Bama needs to get over what happened in the past bc Lane seems to of matured a lot since then. He makes the most sense and fans like him.
Kalen Deborah
Because the landscape of college football has shifted, I find it unlikely coaches at established programs would be willing to leave for Alabama. Saban WAS Alabama, and now that he's gone, other programs like Texas or Oregon or LSU have a through way to elevate themselves.
There’s no way Sark is leaving Texas.
Why would Sark leave Texas? He has a loaded team, unlimited money, and get's to coach in the same conference Alabama is in.
Loaded team? Their starting running back, and two best WRs are leaving for the NFL. Also, Texas does not have the same recruiting pedigree as Bama. Texas has signed five 5 star recruits since Sarkisian has been there. Saban signed eighteen 5 star recruits in this same time frame.
@@bc_qbeval 🤣🤡
@@Mark-zx2bqmad?
@@Mark-zx2bq🤡🤓
@@bc_qbeval5 star rankings are baseless and often wrong. Besides, how many of those 5 stars are still at Bama?
It's just been reported that Lanning is staying put
It was reported that Nick Saban was staying put in Miami, so let's see how the dust settles
It’s gonna be between Deboer and Kiffin. Deboer I feel has all the boosters and staff he wants and is winning at Washington with little expectation. Why leave that?
Lane seems like the only person that really wants the job…. Maybe an NFL OC/DC will interview. Maybe a Leipold or Dabo would want to come. Gonna be interesting for sure
Sark has money and is winning at Texas. Why leave? He has the chance to resurrect that program. They’re willing to pay him to keep him too. Dan Lanning just said he’s not leaving.
Just feels like Lane or someone from the NFL is all that’s left. Unless they really feel like rolling the dice on Prime…. Which would be idiotic
Love the f-1 analogy…Joel Klatt is the goat of great analogies
They should give Mike price a call maybe let him coach a game this time
Credit where credit is due. Joel called this. Deboer is the new coach at Bama.
🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
Coach, the 🐐, cheers for the memories!
It's going to be Kiffin. Unlike DeBoer and Lanning, Kiffin has institutional knowledge of the program from the inside out and it was Kiffin who brought Alabama into the modern offense era. Unlike Sark, Kiffin isn't at a school that is top-10 in college football brands and legacy. And noow that Saban is gone, Kiffin has no mentor to beat.
Kiffin at Alabama sounds like a disaster waiting to happen
Wrong
It's almost 6 pm Thursday lol. Mike Norvell probably will take it. Don't see Sark leaving Texas for Tuscaloosa in the NIL era...nor Smart leaving Georgia, he's set for life there. Don't see the admin and boosters rolling the dice on Kiffin. Now, they could poach an OC from the NFL. That's entirely possible.
after what happened to Florida State this year, Norvell seems like he would be keen to leave for a job like Bama
Sark is the best candidate, but he has tremendous financial backing at blue blood texas and has a championship contender at texas(prob staying at texas)
Lanning has tremendous financial backing at Oregon. No one has a richer booster than the Ducks.
Sark would leave Texas for Bama if this was 2019. But in the NIL era, Texas is an incredible spot to be, and they'll be in the SEC soon anyway. Why go to Tuscaloosa when you have everything you want and in Austin lol.
@@cacogenicist yup...we got the big bag
@@jeffreyroedel9804 Because Sark has a chance to win a Natty at Bama. It ain't happening at Texas.
It will be Washington's coach he fits the bill. He is a really good coach
The only coach out of Lanning, Sark, and Kiffin that has the nerve to abandon his team and go against his loyalty will be Lame Kitten. He did it at Tennessee for USC.
Boo Hoo. which coach wouldn't leave Tennessee for USC? Besides, it's a job and USC offered more money.
He did it at Alabama for FAU. Left before the season ended. As a Bama fan I still want him back.
It doesn't matter what all three are doing or saying now. No one wants to follow Saban, you want to be number 2 after. Kiffin might be the sacrifice, and if it works out, then good for him and Bama.
I love that guys who haven't done anything near Alabama levels of accomplishment are the top candidates for the job
Joel you mention that it is hard to be the guy after the goat. In my mind there is always going to be enormous pressure on the Alabama coach, so I would rather be the one right after him so that I could inherit all of his good players and coaches. Do you think that there will be less pressure later?
Nick Saban was a master with coaches, who were also very good at recruiting. They always had the deepest teams with the best players that time is gone. They're gonna fall back to the middle of the pack with everyone else.
Joel,
With all the new structures and perks in collegiate football what happened to the educational component to college football? Should there be a separation between athletics and academics? Should universities just run football as a revenue source and acknowledge that they are running a farm system for the NFL? With the “New Dawn” of college football is it better to just cut the tether with the academic component?
This is going to take longer than Joel thought. I think if your Dabo, you move on from Clemson and take the Bama job. You don't want to be in the ACC right now. Staying in the ACC is going to be more and more of a disadvantage going forward. Look what happen to FSU. I'm saying its Dabo to Bama.
Like Nick Saben, any coach who takes the Alabama job will need to not only be top-notch but must have the spine to demand the administration know and accept that he is in complete charge of the program or no contract... if he does not, the powers to be at Alabama will try to control everything and when nothing works out the new coach will get the blame and be fired.
Kind of surprised you didn't list guys like Lane Kiffin or Jimbo Fisher
I can't see Jimbo at all. Kiffen for sure I can see
jimbo BWAHAHAHAHAH
I don't understand why so many people say Dan Lanning, he specifically said no no and no a few months ago and now, he says no again what are these people thinking
Dabo. Not my first choice but that’s the safest pick.
My dark horse is Kyle Whittingham
Can someone explain to me why lane isn’t on these Alabama replacement shortlists?
Dan Lanning said he’s staying at Oregon.
If you’re Alabama, you put a blank piece of paper in front of Kirby Smart and have him write a number. Slide it back and Alabama writes the check. Otherwise, yes, these 3 make sense. Without Smart, I think Alabama will take a dip, not sure how deep.
DeBoer is not leaving and his new contract will prove it.
DeBoer is either coaching at Michigan or Alabama, my guess is Michigan. Sorry Dawgs but the last four recruiting classes at Washington ended up 36th, 80th, 27th and 30th. His record at UW is impressive but recruiting to Washington is a serious challenge. Hats off for the 2023 season, looks just like the Ducks 2014 run.
I’m kinda thinking Alabama gets Kalen Deboer from Washington
Joel. Is there a coach already chosen as some have said ? Can’t see Saban leaving Bama high and dry either.
Pete Carroll? Bill Belichick? lol
Gonna be Kiffen. He knows the Sec and he has Ole Miss a top 10 team. He also knows Alabama.
If Kiffin gets that job, you can kiss those future Natty's goodbye!
@@scottpolasek3770 I’ve talked to several Bama fans and they like the Kiffen Idea. They do not want DeBoer. Now this is just the ones I talked to personally. One of them did mention that he was arguing with another fan about DeBoer but most would rather have Kiffen
@@scottpolasek3770 and also want to point out that Kiffen would win nattys at Bama with the right staff in place. He’s literally taken two programs FAU and now Ole Miss and completely turned them into winners. Ole Miss is on its best run since the 1960s. Pshhh dude is a great coach and would be a great fit at Bama.
I keep thinking what will Pete do
Lanning, Dabo or DeBoer. Those are the only three who would take it
Lanning already said he’s staying at Oregon
Makes no sense for a big time coach at a power program to leave for Bama, unless they are unhappy behind the scenes, except for Dabo because it is his alma mater. My top 5: 1. Matt Campbell 2. Mike Vrabel 3. Kalen Deboer 4. Willie Fritz 5. Lance Leipold
MATT CAMPBELL?!?? Whaaaaat in the world
@@g.t.phillips7759 Yeah I think you get a young, experienced guy who knows how to build a program. Because he isn't a huge name, there would be a little less pressure on him.
What about kiffin muschamp or belichek ?
Is Lane Kiffin not a candidate? I believe he could follow Saban with no pressure because of the way he goes about things.
Lanning said he's staying at Oregon.
He said that because he had not been offered the Alabama job.
enjoy what texas went through after Mack Brown was gone😂😂😂😂😂
I think bama next HC woll be either nick saban or wilford Brimley
Dan Lanning has just stated he’s not going anywhere. “The grass is the greatest” in Eugene, Oregon. 😊😊😊
Sark is my first choice. Well Kirby. But he ain’t leaving. He played there.
I don’t think Alabama asked Lanning, Lane, orSark. I believe it will be a unknown coach that is already an assistant in Alabama right now.
They aren't going to hire a coach with no had coaching experience
None of what you said would be a serious, smart, or expected move.
Sark isn’t leaving UT lmao
Kalen is the new coach
Urban Meyer?
Lane Kiffin or Demeco Ryans. Lanning is staying at Oregon early reports
Demeco Ryan’s why would he go to alabama and I don’t think alabama would hire a black head coach if that’s the case then they would be looking at Charlie strong who is there DC!!! Just saying
Mrs. Sark is not leaving Austin.
Saban almost left bama for Texas when Mack brown left.
So why would sark leave Texas for bama?
For some reason I’m feeling Clemson or FSU is looking for a new coach soon. 😂
I still think Mike Norvell is an option
Why not Urban Meyer
Wowww now that is definitely a name that would rattle the college seen and it would stop the bleeding too immediately
Probably because he’s a slime ball? It is the SEC though I suppose…
Because he don’t want to have heart attack from the pressure!
Dan Lanning has integrity. He loves Oregon and he is starting. Sorry Bama fans.
That's what y'all thought about the last two coaches lmao
@@pnut3844ableDan lanning officially announced he’s staying sorry bama
As an F1 fan for the last 25 years, it's a perfect analogy. To further reflect on that train of thought, Alabama and Georgia are what Red Bull and Mercedes have been to that sport over the last 15+ years. Ohio is equal to a Ferrari, world famous but never quite getting to the top tier year in and year out like Red Bull and Mercedes.
I have seen unconfirmed reports that Dan Lanning is the "heir apparent" chosen by Coach Saban himself. Unconfirmed reports that Coach Lanning is already in Tuscaloosa popping up everywhere...
This was confirmed false by players and Dan posted a video today stating that he’s staying in Oregon
Don't believe anything on the internet
@@chasejackson7248 I’m not sure if your reply was aimed at me or the OC, but Dan Lanning himself posted that he’s staying
Ironically Oregon is the team I expect to have the hardest landing in the big 10
Nobody expects anything from either California team and will end middle of the pack, Washington and oregon has split the CFP era series, but Washington has won the last 3 in a row which are away, home, and nutral sites. Assuming they maintain this momentum Oregon is likely going to finish 3rd at best 6th at worst next season
This is Bama if players want to go let them go, not begging anybody!
You think Sark makes sense but you also think he won’t wanna go? YOU don’t make sense.
Honestly none of them are taking it. Once you get a high profile job you aren't leaving it. Why rebuild? Rosters can get depleted over night with the transfer portal.
I don't Think Kellen DeBoer Leaves Washington
What about Urban Meyer ?
Hey Klown - the only constant is change. Saban was a stabilizing force and the reason for success. Alabama $$$ is controlled by dumb backwoods simpletons - my guess is that it reverts back to that post-Saban.
Urban Meyer or Lane Kiffin. Everyone keeps saying Dan Lanning built Oregon how the team won 12 games in 2019 then 2020 was Covid year and 2021 10 wins then he takes over in 2022 and does the same 10 wins If anything he hasn't crashed the car but he hasn't built anything.
Clemson doesn’t want to lose dabo to bama but let’s be serious. He is easily a top 3 coach (with saban and Kirby) and anything said otherwise is laughable.
What about Lane Kiffin
Must not watch the macafee show Lanning said no way he's leaving
Mr. Klatt....there was Bear Bryant..........then along the way, there was Mike Shula. No program stays at the top forever. Bama could decline. There's no guarantee they can't "go through the wilderness" for a while.
Not with this roster. Get a good coach with that roster and it’ll still contend
@@tylerdrake1113 Probably.
Why not Lane Kiffin or Nick has a farwell tour one last season
Why not call urban
Bob Stoops would be a good replacement for Nick Saban at Alabama
They need a seat warmer because nobody in their right mind wants that job!
Quinn Ewers returning says Sark ain’t going anywhere.
Conner Stallions
ALABAMA FANS will never recover from their NICK SABAN .............HANGOVER ! NEVER ! He was that GREAT!
We are fine lol. Times change. I’m excited about a new coach. Won’t be Saban. Won’t recruit like Saban. But we be fine.
@@timtapscott8737 Then theee alarm clock went ...........ON !
Mack Brown
People like to see new faces competing for the championship--unless of course you're a Bama fan. It's nothing personal against Bama, but no one outside of Alabama is rooting for you. Whoever takes this job will fail simply because it's time for different programs to enjoy some moments in the sun.
It's not about luck and it "being your turn"....Bama MADE IT their turn...and they deserved to be on the stage. If a great coach comes in with a winning mentality, why would you not want to see Bama back on the stage? Hater.
@@bc_qbeval I've got nothing but respect for what Bama accomplished and if they can keep it going I'll tip my hat to them, but my point still follows. It's the same reason no one wanted to see Golden State win title after title or New England. It's not exciting for people outside of those fanbases to see the same team win over and over. And we're not even talking about pro-level sports where at least you can admire the skill sets. This is collegiate level athletics. At this point, no one is rooting for Alabama unless you're from Alabama. Fact.
@@cryogeneric where you're wrong is saying "no one wanted to see them win".....not true...I love seeing dynasties because you are watching the best of the best maintain peak performance. over a long period of time....that is more special than seeing a diffeent team win very year IMO...respect tho.
Have a better chance at Matt Rhule than anyone Klatt named
Joel, I know like their viewership but you gotta stop talking about Day as elite. OSU should just hire Vrabel!
I'm a diehard Bama fan and bleed crimson, that being said, I want the winning to continue and willing to have a coach I may not love but can win nattys! Hire Urban Meyers!!!! He knows how to win nattys and his players love him!!
Maybe not his kickers...
He knows how to fake mental health problems and medical problems.
The NIL & Transfer portal changed everything. Why would Sark leave the richest school in the SEC for Alabama? Or Lanning leave all that Nike $ and a coast to coast B1G?
Maurice Clarett has Ryan Day's bus ticket 🎫 purchased and has his bags 🛍️ packed...

Your top 3 are going to turn it down and it’s going to be Lane Kiffin!
Deion Sanders??? He did commercial with Saban.
How about the director he made the commercial.
Deion gets a lot of scrutiny as it is, following behind Nick Saban is a career killer…..Bama is going to have to hire a young coach with nothing to lose
@chasejackson7248 what about the duck.
I would be SHOCKED if Kiffin got it. If his personal life is in order then maybe I could see it. I’m truly shocked that Saban didn’t handle/help line up his successor. Dabo could have this job if he was willing to change from his current beliefs on NIL and the portal. He was on good terms with Nick.
27-20
Joel Klatt is staying the obvious. Saban already told his players that Alabama would hire his replacement within 72 hours.
Gonna be Deboer or Kiffin. Lanning is staying and nobody else makes sense
Lanning said he is staying at Oregon because Alabama has not offered him their HC job.
@@marcusjones5287they definitely offered him the job lol. He makes so much sense, only thing is he’s loyal to Oregon.
@@braydenwise770 do you have some "inside sources" that told you they offered Lanning the job?
If Harbaugh stays att Michigan it could be Sherone Moore. He beat Ryan Day.

Not Sark. Please not Sark. Texas has struggled for 15 years. Sark has led us out of the darkness. Please don’t put us back there.
They should hire bill belichick and the patriots should hire saban. 2 dynasties restarted 🙌
If FSU or WASH coach don't take the Bama job... it's hard to see any A list quality coach wanting the job as they're all in great spots now. Why would they want to leave a great situation to follow a legend that includes the often brutal/delusional Bama fanbase. There's no where to go but down for the next coach (mostly). My money's on Bama having to settle for an unproven coach then it may just be our turn (again) to go through a decade long+ coaching carousel.
