    Since 2011, when Yemeni youths took to the streets and sparked the eventual demise of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh's regime, the country has fallen to pieces. The new embattled government is now struggling to cope with a bevy of issues, including sectarian rivalries, CIA drone strikes, and one of al Qaeda's most sophisticated branches. It now risks presiding over the failure of one of the world's most fragile countries.
    In "Yemen: A Failed State," VICE News visits some of Yemen's most dangerous and hard-to-reach places and groups, including the national Army in the country's lawless East, the Houthis in Sana'a, and the Popular Committee in the South, to find out how both the government and the West's policy toward Yemen have gone wrong.

    Yemenis are kind people. The situation of Yemen is not because of the Yemenis but because of foreign interventions each country tries to use Yemen and the Yemenis for their own interests without thinking of the innocent Yemenis. If foreign countries let Yemen by itself and support Yemen with good intentions things would be much x1000 better than now.

      carl1223 No, western nations are puppets for the anti-Christ agenda. These conflicts you see in the Middle East is because terrorist western states love to intervene, they have the resources because they’re thieves and have the devil behind them. You will never see the brave middle eastern countries bow to anti-Christ agenda, God above all. To Him we will all return.

All of these different type of Muslims have to push their ways on everyone else by force because they think God is supporting them and them alone. They all need to humble themselves and repent. They talk about the American government's arrogance in regard to foreign policy but fail to acknowledge that a majority of Muslims themselves, especially the more devout and extreme ones are some of the most arrogant and hypocritical people on earth.

    • @Lightscribe225
      @Lightscribe225 Před 9 lety

      Yes, because if we didn't exist, something else would have filled the void as dominant species. And competition for resources would have triggered large scale conflicts, and those conflicts would in turn inspire the creation of tools that are more effective at neutralizing competition at minimal cost to themselves(weapons).

      Sometimes i think it's sad that our cousin the homo neanderthalensis has gone extinct. Having to share our planet with another "human species" would have teached us humility and prooven that homo sapiens is only an animal among others. With that knowledge we would never have adopted religion in the first place and this world would be a way better place to live in.

      I don't think so. Religion was designed as a way to explain what couldn't be explained at the time, like lightning a earthquakes. Easier to explain it as gods being angry rather than trying to put words and meaning to tectonic plates and particles in the atmosphere.
      Though I do agree, with another species, religion at may have taken a more peaceful turn, rather than 'my god can beat up your god'.

  • @jarcnuscole1199
    @jarcnuscole1199 Před 9 lety +30

    So people, let's stop to think for a second very serious. Analyze this and let it sink into your brain. Why are these people becoming so violent, oppressive and conflicting? As much as Islam is a crappy religion, it isn't the *cause*. The first few seconds of the video queues the motive... RESOURCES, POVERTY, JUSTICE. None of this exist here. The governments at support and empowered by foreign governments like the US exploit its people. The people become poor and uneducated. They are desperate and they will steal to survive or improve their lives. Some will cling to religious radicalism to *excuse* their actions.
    IF you can't see that, then maybe you fail entirely at critical thinking or the ability to observe something and learn.

    • @NDnf84
      @NDnf84 Před 9 lety +1

      yeah, well, maybe you should think critically and wonder why there is no jihad-like symptoms in non-muslim countries that are just as or even MORE poor. Crime yes. Jihad no.

      TwoFistsOneHalleluja yeah, in fact i've heard that pathetic cherry-picked response dozens of times. you can point out one, two or even 5 groups and say that makes it just as bad as Islam, which has hundreds with hundreds of thousands of violent followers. Why are people so bent on defending Islam? what is the point? what GOOD is Islam doing in the world today, ever ask yourself that question?

    • @NDnf84
      @NDnf84 Před 9 lety

      Jarcnus Cole Seriously, you're talking about a cult with less than 1,000 members, and that's a serious equivalency in your mind?

    • @jarcnuscole1199
      @jarcnuscole1199 Před 9 lety +2

      Nick D'Aloise Size wouldn't and shouldn't change anything. How many people in the world are Islamic? You are cherry picking then to say (religion > human choice).
      I already stated Islam is a religion I am not fond of or support and to me it's like any other garbage religion birthed from the Middle East-which those regions are historically violent, not the people. I gave you examples of countries that are Mostly Muslim and you ignore that to say I am cherry picking a few cultists. that's a bit hypocritical of a viewpoint on your behalf.
      My point is though, the violence, suffering and turmoil from this region of the planet has *VERY LITTLE* if anything to really be derived from religion. The only thing this religion has done is make people a bit more bold and violent. However it's the fact of their geography that is an issue. Socioeconomics and the fact other countries have meddled, pillaged and bombed these people back decades of progress every few decades. There are simply greedy, "evil" people out there who only use religion (the people at the top) for their benefit, not like they actually believe.
      Look at West/North Europe and even the US. It's been enjoying new standards of living, very high for many years now. Through these years it has developed increasing atheist/agnostic populations. That's no fucking coincidence. Developed countries without impoverished people aren't going to be as beset by violence and religion by population.

      6 years later...
      Most of Yemen's problems today can be traced to the Zaidi Imamate, who have isolated North Yemen from the rest of the world. South Yemen was a communist state and it was by far more developed than GCC countries.
      After both Yemens unity, the dictator Ali Abdullah Saleh just missed every thing up.
      Yemen was the most developed nation in Arabia for litterally 3 thousand years, and its one of the oldest countries and civilizations in the region along with Egypt and Mesopotamia and Levant.

    I believe in God, but I strongly believe religion should have no effect on government. I can't force the way I want to live on other people, a successful country is based on tolerance and acceptance. So I support gay marriage and religion out of schools. I don't know why people feel like they need to force other people to live their way. If people were really as religious as they say they are, then they would leave judgement into God's hands. I learned I am nobody to judge, I can only live my life.

      Religious politicians come from religious homes. You can't even become president in America unless you can prove that you are a strong believer in christianity. Political leaders often do photo shoots on the doorstep of a church while wearing a cross to gain approval rating. As long as the cancer that is religion exists it will always corrupt the nature of politics.

    • @aldoralaplume566
      @aldoralaplume566 Před 9 lety +4

      John McClane Religion doesn't corrupt politics. People corrupt politics. Always pointing the finger at religion and religion is nothing but a belief. So ridiculous.

      Bells Castillo Leaders enforcing Sharia law do not allow females to go to school. The boys that are allowed school are only allowed to study the Quran. Young men are indoctrinated into militant groups through islam. Political leaders use religion to control the people and recruit youth. Religious beliefs absolutely affect political descision making. Every political leader in the Middle East starts and ends each rally and speech with God is great. They enforce Sharia Law through religious police. You are extremely narrow minded if you truly think that religion does not corrupt politics.

    • @aldoralaplume566
      @aldoralaplume566 Před 9 lety +2

      John McClane Now the Middle East is a different story. They have not modernized in the way the U.S has. They don't experience extensive immigration therefore a majority of their population is Muslim. Muslim's support Sharia law because that is what they believe in. I wouldn't call it corruption, although that is your personal opinion. In your eyes, you believe in freedom it sounds like. They are not ready for freedom, because they believe in Sharia law for them it is "normal" and not wrong. U.S. has attempted to democratize the region over and over again and has failed. The Middle East has changed, in places such as Oman woman can drive, in the UAE woman can go to school, they are making progress towards freedom hence all the revolutions going on. I never said religion doesn't affect political decisions because it does. But I don't blame religion for it. I blame people for not being able to distinguish the two. The U.S. is not an old country and we have become increasingly more liberal, secular and tolerant. It is a process which will take years, decades even. But you can't say we haven't progressed because we have. If it wasn't religion, we would point the finger at something else. There is nothing else to blame, but people.

      Bells Castillo When will there be an atheist American president? Last year, a rightward leaning Supreme Court has issued two major rulings granting sweeping new privileges to religious belief. Atheists and secularists in America are angry and frustrated, and it’s natural to wonder when we’ll have a government that heeds our wishes. Is there any prospect of an atheist president any time soon, or a nonbeliever in some other high political office? If there truly is a separation of church and state why are there so many religious politicians? That said, I think the real achievement won’t be the first atheist presidential candidate, but the second. As long as atheists running for office are seen as unusual or exceptional, there will remain that otherizing perception that there’s something different about us, that being a nonbeliever is a category unlike the rest of humanity. When an atheist candidate isn’t an exceptional event, but something that doesn’t even occasion comment or raised eyebrows. *When all candidates keep their beliefs to themselves instead of using it as a campaign tool then and only then will there be true separation of church and state in the body politic.*

So denouncing their religion is by no means up to anyone but them... At the same time however some of these trolls saying that Islam is corrupting them are looking at little less on the extreme spectrum... Idk...
