2013 Ford Mustang GT vs V6 Mustang 0-60 MPH Mile High Mashup Test

- ( www.TFLcar.com ) What's the fastest Mustang you can buy from 0-60 MPH @ 1 mile above sea level. Is it the 2013 V8 Ford Mustang GT or the V6 Mustang? The answer of course is the Mustang GT as it has 100 more horsepower. But you already knew that. What we wanted to find out is just how much faster is not only how much the 2013 Mustang can go to 60 MPH, but also (and perhaps more importunity) how much that extra speed costs. In order to do that we got two 2013 Mustangs together and Mashed them up to find out.
They should have both been automatic... Neither of these guys can drive worth a damn.
In all fairness the stick shift transmissions are shit.

@@fastfordman1965 nahh bro your just boring

2 seconds from 0-60 is an enormous leap in performance at these times, even with the altitude/payload hits.
My GT Premium rag top w/ auto did it in about 5.1 seconds, but I didn't have 2 fat asses in the car.
It probably wasn't a mile above sea level, either..

My dad and I are on a road trip in America and were driving a 2015 mustang v6. It's pretty damn fast, I got 0-60 in 5.4 secs!

+Dante Smith that's bs
but why
Not even some supercars get 2.3 second 0-60 times..
lesson learned - if you can't drive get a V6 automatic, install a shorter rear end and you will beat the GT manual guys at least 3 times out of 4. Both of these guys should be testing tampons for cow's.
Laszlo Makrai the transmission can be like that sometimes although I usually miss 5th gear if I miss a gear at all
tampons 4 cows lmao but 4 real😂😂😂💪🏿
they're using the V6 bese model if they would've use the performence pk. outcome would be very different.
People who own v8s and shit on v6s are just trying to justify spending $10,000 extra. A v6 will do the job...
what? lol you can easily get a GT for under 9K
A v6 will do what job ? Getting beat by every singe one of its competitors ? You v6 boys are just finding any way to justify buying a woman’s car, v6 Camaros, 350zs, 370zs, g37s sedans and coupes, my personal choice the Genesis coupe 3.8 all rip through that pathetic v6 slowstang LMAO

I remember watching this video years ago. I still have my ‘14 GT and I love it. That’s the beauty of the mustang line up. There’s a mustang for everyone!! My fist mustang was a ‘98 V6 5 speed manual and I loved it. I had plenty of power and so much fun. Now with my GT it brings back memories I lived with my V6. They are both awesome cars!! Plus that V6 had more horse power that the previous GT’s!!
I had a 1982 5.0 GT that put out a whopping 157 HP. Yes, 157..How times have changed.
I really enjoyed watching 2:05 on 0.5 speed lol.
+Nathan McDonald actually, set it to 2.0 speed and ROFL
I've seen the 2013 Ford Mustang V6 do just under 6 seconds in other videos and the V8 around 4.3 seconds. For ever day driving, I would stick with the V6 just because it is way better on gas (19 city/31 hwy) and it is still very fast! No point in spending $10k more if you're not going to race it and suffer with 15-18 city/25 hwy.

READ!! they mention elevation. The higher the elevation the more power loss. Generally at 6000ft a turbo car loses about 3% of its power, supercharged -8% and natural aspiration -18%. You guys in mustang GTs who beat say a STI would lose to an STI up here. I used to have a 96 trans am auto and raced a 3000GT vr4 and won, but here I would have been smoked. Btw he beat me to 60 but I passed him around 80 and was 2 cars by 105. My 5.8 clocked 0-60 would be around 7.5...his would go from 5.9 or so to 6.0(turbo). My reg cab shortbed ram hemi 4x4 gets to 60 in 7.9. My friends 12 charger r/t is about 7.0.

The look on a drivers face when I dust their anchor V8 in a 4.0 is just.. priceless. Greatest part about driving a 6 cylinder is you're almost always underestimated, which makes victory just that much sweeter.

soulerflare7 and loose some weight

I would love to own a GT, but I'm still happy with my V6. Some people call the V6 a disgrace to the Mustang lineup, while I call that bullshit. A Mustang is still a Mustang no matter if it is automatic transmission, manual, V6, GT, 2014, 1969, you name it.

Crazy how much of a difference the altitude makes. My 300 HP 1999 GT 5-speed did 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. This was timed with a datalogger, so it's accurate.
8.34 seconds for 0-60mph in the v6? I don't think so. I have the 2014, and it doesn't even take me close to 8 seconds with it just in Drive, maybe a little over 6. I used the Sport (Select) Shift and could've sworn it took me around 6 seconds to get to 80mph. And 6.14 seconds for the 5.0 (GT).. a 412hp car.. what!!?? LOL

I test drove a 2013 GT Premium with 4,000 miles on and that car wanted to fly. It was really fun and the exhaust has been modified to sound louder. They are asking 29,900. Is that a good deal guys?
its a steal. a new premium cost 35,000$ and a fully load v6 mustang cost 30,000$
brightsun11 I did some research online today and found a red 2014 GT premium with leather, brand new for 29, 800.00. The dealership is about a 100 miles from where I live, so I may just check that one out. What do you think of the 2015 model?
Ravaniscool . hate how the 2015 looks. im getting a 2014 mustang gt in two months. fully load premium, with every options expect backup camera, which is 41,000$, brand new. just look up the mustang on ford website, and click up on the build my car feature on the web site. and there months ago I also found a 30,000$ 2013 premium gt, so they are around. it just depends on the options
Ravaniscool . get it buddy, if you want a performance car and you don't want to wait for the 2015 i would say grab that one, great car, and a good deal you sound like you're getting. You should also check with fleet to see what they have to offer if its a Ford dealership. the car is very nice, comfy, and a performance bargain, at its price point no other new vehicle will be able to match you, I took a GT premium silver w/ebony stripe, louvers, silver/black wheels, I forgot the exact packages from here in Cali to Vegas in 2012 when the 2013's were brand new and I can honestly say this. I opened her up big time on the I15 even going up to 130mph at times lol. There is nothing like driving a driver's car on a road trip. the driving dynamics, the sights, the sounds, people looking at the car while you're driving and at stops, man that was a whole lot of fun! i really liked that car and trust me you will too.
Ravaniscool . not a fan....its a nice car...but its getting away from the mustang/ american muscle appeal and going more for a eurotrash bmw 3 series wannabe. my opinion...it should not be called a mustang. Ford is basically puckering their lips to kiss european consumer ass while giving the American market the middle finger.....ironically...the europeans like the Mustang as it is specifically because its different then what they are used to.

Bill Peirce can't never beat the sound of a v8
Yeah but then you'll kill the reliability of the car and also a lot of its engine life , and also you'll be reaching the motor power limit before building the motor , the v6 will just never complete with the v8

The mustang v6 comes to $75 per horse power and the gt comes to $74. As the guy from KBB review pointed out these are tough economic times, better get the most out of your money and buy the GT. Great review guys! Looks like you had fun making this. Also if you do not care about options and just want a light fast car the base GT costs around the optioned v6 you showed. And base for base is about 7 to 8 grand difference. You could use that money on the v6 for a turbo... but you would lose warranty
I agree. But what is the point of buying a muscle car without the muscle. If you don't want a v8 you would look better on a genesis or something like that. I would never buy a v6 camaro, mustang, or challenger
My 2014 v6 Mustang is faster stock for stock than any GT produced before 2011 soooo your comment doesn't make a lot of sense. And Mustangs and Camaros are pony cars not muscle cars. Do some hw homie
I got a 2013 gt with very few upgrades and is pushing almost 500hp. So you do your homework. You can supercharge a v6 and still won't get what a stock gt has
And a proper mustang should have that v8 rumble. Whats the point of having a mustang if it sounds like a nissan
Germain Gonzalez And once again you prove you know nothing about Mustangs. A pro charged V6 would wipe the floor on any 2014 bone stock GT.
It wouldn't even be close. If you don't believe me AM posted a pro charged v6 video with a dyno and quarter mile time on their website. You can also search on youtube. There are many videos posted of supercharged v6's taking out stock GT's. haha Go back to reading your 5 issues of Motortrend that you read occasionally and don't open your mouth unless you know what the fuck you're talking about noob. I swear fake ass car enthusiasts pretend to know everything about cars but all they know is v8>v6. Brochures will only tell you so much. And stop lying about what car you own. You're just like every kid on my block
Germain Gonzalez lol bruh the nissian gtr has v6 with twins on. guess they need a v8 to hun?
I test drove the 2010 Gt and the 2012 V6, While the GT with more torque was quicker it really wasn't nearly as huge a difference as you see here. I chose the V6 for better gas mileage and insurance rates. Damn near as fast as any prior GT and is as quick as the Mustangs of the 60's save for a few exceptions.
If Roman put mods like headers, quad exhausts, Air filters, and racing shocks, his v6 would murder the GT
You should probably learn what testing a car a mile above sea level does to horsepower next time.
Of course we may not know how to drive a car...or the other possibility is that you don't know what testing a car @ 1 mile above sea level does to horsepower.
Sorry for the delay. We both know that any engine with enough money in it can make great power. Im not sure the 4.0 block could be built up to anything like 1200hp and im sure with the same budget you could make far more power. I'm talking about stock engines. you could bolt on that 4.0 all day and youll never break into the 12s. you would need a good FI system. Theres lots of v8s (mine included) which can crack 12s very easily. I am not attacking all V6s.
That's fair as we just waisted 5 seconds reading this bad cliche of a comment.
Here's a thought: Get what you enjoy and what is best for your budget! My first car was a V6 Mustang, and I absolutely loved it/drove the hell out of that car. I was able to pay it off on my own, and afford the insurance. I had a LOT of fun with it. A year ago, I bought a '14 GT, and the difference is night and day. I will never be able to go back to a V6, as just the roar of the engine alone is enough to put a grin on my face. That said, I still respect V6 Mustangs, as should everyone. V8 owners shouldn't hate on V6 stangs, and V6 owners shouldn't talk shit about V8s. It's sad to see the hate among Mustang fans. Then there's Chevy VS Ford VS Mopar. (One of my best friends has an 04 Termi, the other has a '12 Camaro SS, and we each respect each other's cars. Well... the Termi is the winner as of right now...) The only time I hate V6 owners is when they put 5.0/GT badges on their car. Same goes for GT owners that put GT500 emblems on their car. At the end of the day, we should all be unified with one goal: to seek and destroy ricers. THAT'S what muscle cars are about.
All this said, if you honestly believe that the 5.0 sucks, you have NO idea what you are talking about, clearly no knowledge about cars, 0 credibility, and probably drive a lawnmower of a car.
You're not just paying for the 2 seconds. You get a better overall interior, an upgraded sound system, and the bragging rights of a badass 5.0!!
I just wanted to say kudos to you guys for keeping in the failed 0-60 tries in the final cut.
0-60 tests should not be done with family and friends sitting in the car. Its typically done by a 150-180 lbs adult. You both together might weigh 450+ lbs. There is a reason why professional drivers weigh less. You cant get the best 0-60 with all that fat around your belly. LoL! But, because you guys do it for fun, its ok. we can live with it. We wont take your numbers seriously. But, in all, its fun to watch your videos. Keep it going guys!
It is not just the higher sticker price but also V8 insures for more, drinks more gas etc.. so taking into account the ownership cost over 5 years, 1 sec more is going to cost like 7G instead of 5G
No! How can millions of viewers be wrong!? I think we're okay without your wisdom... honestly. Glad you're watching; happy we're entertaining you!
As an everyday driver, exactly how often will you actually use the full speed and horsepower of the GT? The v6 has 5 more horsepower than the previous generation 4.6L V-8. If you race, GT all the way. Go V6 for everyday driving. Otherwise you’ll be paying a $10,000 testosterone tax.
You could save a lot more and buy a Yaris. If you're buying a Mustang for it's practicality you're doing it wrong. I bought a Track Pack car for a fun daily driver; I get 19.5ish to the gallon and I wouldn't give up any power. For all the noise I've heard about the MT82 - most of it repeated by people who've never touched one - I've lived with one for about 10K miles now and I have no complaints.
You guys need to test more than 0-60.
But yeah 412hp vs 305 is no comparo. Those people below saying their V6 is as fast as a V8 are just blowing themselves up. Real world power usability is in a different league when you have 400+ hp.
Take the V/6 and the performance package and you had a list price of $24990.00. That's all you need, you get the GT suspension , a much lighter car and a big difference in price. Off the base of $24990.00 with the rebates and discounts they had you could be be around 22K. That is a lot of car for the money.
Both are great values. If you have the extra 10k and can afford to pay higher insurance and more gas, then go for the GT. But the v6 is pretty damn good too
I beg to differ, there are LOTS of guys driving their respective cars with true skill.
Being a professional has nothing to do with it, learning how to extract the performance your car offers is what give good numbers, practice, practice, practice is all I have to say if you wanna run great "magazine" numbers....
You know we could have easily cut out that part of the video where Nathan blows the shift but instead we decided to go fishing for trolls with a little bit of troll bait. And guess what...we caught whopper.
Its because they are 5000+ ft above sea level in this video. The higher you go, the worse a naturally aspirated performs. This is across the board too, its not just a Ford that would have this problem. Running right next to both of these Mustangs, an iroc would be slower even with a few mods. Oh and an iroc only weighs about 150 lbs less than new Mustang GT. Less yes, but not all that much
I feel the pain I’m missing 2nd or 3rd gears in the MT82 transmission in these 2013 GT’s. I do it all the time at higher RPMs, they’re horrible
Thanks buddy! We're chomping at the bit to get our paws on a Focus ST. Ford is bringing us to Los Angeles to test the new C-MAX models... so maybe the Focus ST is right after that. Fingers crossed. Thanks for watching!
You can clearly see you intentionally didn't give it gas in the V6. When you're trying to do 0-60 you don't go for a rolling start and then floor it when you get to the V8. Also you can't use two different drivers why on earth would you think that's fair?
Very good observation you made it fair as possible, as they were more bias toward the Generic Toy being faster and that's not true as they should've at least made it a level playing field and used an 3.7 V6 prem. or the performance pk.
@@BACON-l3t What's even funnier is that both cars have a track mode that's used to measure 0-30, 60, and 100. Doing all the work for you.
Please bring it to Denver. We'd love to see you run 5.4 at over a mile above sea level. We'll even video the run and make you a star. Please put up or shut up.
erm... don't wanna argue physics here but you realize the air is thinner, not thicker right? Thats why you need oxygen tanks to climb mountains. So you would probabley lose a significant amount of horsepower at that altitude since your engine would be running lean
Yeah, Im not worried about that. The 86 was a 190 HP 305 TPI, thats gonna need more than a "few modifications" to beat the 412 HP 302 when there is only a 150 lb weight difference... You were the one that said your iroc was quicker than these cars, which it wouldnt be in the same altitude setting.
In the right conditions that shouldn't be a problem for the 5.0. The numbers that they got are more on par with the 99-04 models.
The guy in the video is wrong with the statement of the 2013 GT having 412 hp. It was upped to 420hp.
I really enjoyed the video. You guys seemed to have a good time making this.
Lester, we have zero interest in your mean spirited and ugly name calling. You've been warned! Next time you'll be banned from our channel.
For those of you obviously uneducated in Mustangs, the GT equipped with the 3.73 axle ratio needs 3rd gear for 60 mph.
There's a lot of trolls here so I hate to make more negative comments but I don't understand how you can be a "car guy", create your own channel dedicated to the passion, and not even know something as basic as the HP your car has? Also Roman's talk about the cost per second with the 0-60 time was total noob talk. Maybe it was mostly sarcasm, but two seconds is a huge difference. Other then that, not bad, nice presentation and video quality. Keep working on it & continue having fun.
One; I never said it was stock. Two; It's easier to outrun an 8 than you think. Three; Six cylinders have the inherent gift of low-end RPMs, thanks in-part to it's combustion event that's 1/3 greater than that of an 8 of the same size. Which simply means given a 6 and an 8 300 HP/TQ to match, chances are the six will be seeing first place for most, if not all, of the race. How's that for some physics. :)
So what elevation were you guys working with here? Extra weight + altitude seems to be really hindering these cars!
I think we all know these numbers are a good 1.5-2 seconds higher than what they could be under ideal conditions haha. 5.0 should do it in around 4.5-4.8 at sea level with a single driver.
They are in Denver (mile above sea level) the altitude causes the car to not run as fast as at sea level
Wish people would read the comments. These times are based 1: REAL WORLD. Not a flat dragstrip in perfect conditions 2. These guys are ONE MILE ABOVE SEA LEVEL. My current car does quarter in 12.3 300 ft above sea level and I guarantee it more likely be in the 13's at one mile high. 3: Another reason to get the v8 is cause the V8 will respond a HELL of a lot more to Mods than the V6 will due to it's NATURALLY higher torque. 4. these times would represent an AVERAGE driver
Just had to say this is one of the most exquisite comebacks I have ever read in the comments haha! love it, and love the review.
keep up the great work, the everyday comparisons allow us a different perspective and change from the car magazines, a pretty unique vid
Yes, skinny teenagers have 40k out of highschool to buy decent sports cars, pay the taxes, registration, gas and insurance. The high altitude kills the times, but they constantly say that, so don't be surprised. Also, they didn't edit the bad driving out so what's there to complain about it? The point is, you see the percentage in time difference from 0-60 between the two cars. That won't change at any altitude with any drivers.
I still can't believe people are complaining about these reviews. These are under real world conditions. Real world conditions aren't always @sea level with a 150lb driver and clean road conditions. Real world is visiting your aunt in Vermont and some guy wants to race you with your 300lb dad in the car, and a backseat full of luggage.
Most guys get 5.2-5.4 0-60s with the stock v6 and mid 4s with the gt, but altitude and weight obviously will probably be making these slower
