Flyleaf Says Goodbye To Lacey

- "As Flyleaf begins this new cycle to introduce our third record New Horizons, we feel our fans should know that Lacey has stepped down as lead vocalist of the band. Her statement below expresses her reasons for leaving. In order to continue on with New Horizons, Sameer, Jared, James, and myself have selected Kristen May, formerly of Vedera, to assume lead vocal duties for future tour dates. We are excited for this new chapter in the history of Flyleaf, and hope that our fans will accompany us as we continue on this journey to bring hope and inspiration through our music. "I have been beyond blessed to be in Flyleaf for the past ten years, touring with 4 amazing men and the Flyleaf crew, whom I love like my flesh and blood family. They have all given so much. It took everyone on our team to make the beauty in Flyleaf possible. I am honored to have met so many wonderful people who love Flyleaf music all over the world. Your incredible stories continue to inspire me. I am very thankful to have recently become a mom to one of the greatest blessings of my life, my son Jack. You may have also heard that we recently lost our brilliant sound engineer, Rich Caldwell, in a devastating car accident. Now, more than ever, I understand the phrase Memento Mori. I understand that, for me, living life to the fullest in this season means to step down as the lead singer for Flyleaf. I wish the best to Jared, Pat, Sameer and James and I know that as I continue to pursue the highest heights of what I am created for, it will free them all to pursue that for themselves too.
The guys will continue to tour and write music together. I'm so very grateful that they are able to do what they desire and that there is a beautiful and talented, warm hearted girl like Kristen May to sing for them. Because of this, you will all get a chance to see a new Flyleaf show and support the new album.
As I take this first step on a new journey, I pray that each one of you would pursue your highest calling with reckless abandon as well, understanding that sometimes the fullness of life comes in doing things that are only understood by you, God, and the special people God has put in your life that truly love you for you... not for what you do, but for who you are. im crying right now... i love lacey! shes amazing and beautiful! and her lyrics have helped me through sooo much! and i hope to meet her in person one day! because of her, i want to persue my own dreamsto become a singer and sing for others! not my own wealth and fame, but for others to help them through their problems, like lacey and the band helped me. im glad she is persueing her dreams though and raising her family. we will all miss her grately!!!

Why Why Why!!! I just read this and I am devastated. I loved your vocals Lacey. You brought me back to Christian Rock. Before you I listened to some new stuff, but it sounded so old persony. I needed ROCK. You delived. Thank you. And I am glad I was able to see Flyleaf live at "The Swamp" in Destin, Florida.
Cause "God" doesn't allow rock music when you're a Christian from Texas. Organized religion is "why"

yeah, i read it yesterday and seriously bursted into tears ;( she just inspires me so much and i love her voice and the lyrics of her songs. the're so true and real and she's my fav singer for at least 5 years now. and recently i was so excited about their latest two songs. so, my disappointment was quite big at first.
but i understand very well what she says in the letter for her fans. she knows what she is doing, she's so wise. love her
Let me just say, I have been a die hard Flyleaf fan from the release of their first album... I even had to purchase a couple albums again because of so much wear and tear. I didn't steal it from the net, I supported them and their mission. They prayed making their music that the Holy Spirit would be in the music and so many times I felt it. Lacey and I shared similar conversions and a similar past, and I continued to love and support Flyleaf.....Then I stumbled upon this.... I was DEVASTATED..... and I will remain devastated, but.... I don't question Lacey's choice of stepping down. I wish so bad that she didn't... but she has a child now, and if she feels she has done the work that God planned for her.... Then it is done..... To the band, I will continue to look for your albums and tour dates.... Honestly though, those words, the music was the old Flyleaf and Kristen does have a pretty voice... but there has been and their will only be ONE LACEY MOSLEY-STURM..... I'm glad I found someone would scream like the angel of death "REPENT REPENT" with a growl and scream that made me fall to my knees hearing the wrath of God, as I was uplifted by the beautiful and angelic voice that only Lacey can deliver. I heard the pain of the world in it, I heard the beauty of mankind in it, I felt the hope of the future in it, and I felt the peace of God in it. THANK YOU From the bottom of my heart for bringing me back from the dead and with my face towards God...I love you!.

i just discovered this band a few days ago and WOW!!! i listened to their 1st album in entirety and absolutely love it!!! cant get the songs out of my head. Lacey has a unique style in the way she pronunciates and with her amazing power in her voice.... and she is super hot!!! Makes me wonder... was I under a rock when they came out??? Damn. I wish her and the band the best.
listeing to this song and reading the letter on here made me cry:( Lacey was a role model for me:( but i respect her decision taking care of her child is the most important.
O...tearing up....this band has brought me through SO many rough times...practically grew up with them. :( and they had a BIG influence on me spiritually

Lacey, thank you SO much for the time you spent leading flyleaf and writing music. It won't be the same without you, it's like it's flyleaf 2 now, but thank you so much for the songs you wrote, the story you have told and are telling, keep doing what you're doing, we miss you, and if you ever would be open for one last show, I speak for all washington state when I say that we would travel far to see you in concert just once. Lacey has been one of the biggest influences in my life and I will miss her deeply. I hope she continues to sing as the industry would not be the same without her :)

I really hate that she left Flyleaf :( God bless her in whatever new path she follows though.I am having trouble associating Flyleaf without her voice. It's very difficult. All of my favorite groups from middle school seem to be replacing members, members leaving or on the verge of breaking up these days. :

Biggest thing that pisses me off.. Is how people bitch and complain about their new lead singer, When Lacy hand picked her... every one like that isn't a true fan.. because i honestly think the new girl is pretty good. I'll always be a flyleaf fan. Though I'll always miss the unique element that Lacy gave when she sang and wrote.
Agreed. Lacey was amazing. Kristen is still a great singer. She never will make up fully to what Lacey was but that's because she isn't Lacey. I'm glad we got Kristen because it could have been someone way worse. Still supporting Flyleaf and still love the music

Flyleaf is so perfect. I love Lacey so much. She's my impersonation. My idol. I love her, cannot even express how much she means to me. She saved my life, she gave me faith in the lord. Her words, her voice, they saved me and understood me when no one else could. They gave me hope, and strengthened my faith. She's so perfect.
Well for all she has given...we can bare with her choice...and a outstanding one...for a season of seasons.
No I am devastated..I see her sweet spirit as she walks out her destine as she believes..and I love her even more for it..I just dont know if i can believe this new girl is going to keep with who flyleaf really is...or change it to a secular band !!!!

I'm so glad I got to meet lacey sturm in person. She is a wonderful, beautiful person and should be treated as such. I'm sure she would love to continue to sing for Flyleaf but her son comes first. She loves that little boy and i admire her for putting her family before her music.:D btw this is between her, God, and her family.

I hate to say this because of the backlash i'm going to get, but I was hopping through Flyleaf's songs and came across a interview she had given some time ago. Now granted I have been a fan before they got big but had never dug into the band on a personal level. Something happened to me 30 seconds into this interview that has changed my life. I don't know how to explain it but .......Thank you Lacey..you saved my life...

Ohhhh nooo!!! I'm real late on finding this news out. I've purchased tickets to the show in spring Texas. Texas crawfish festival (May 2, 2015) and was really looking forward to hearing lacy. She has such an awesome voice!!! I understand why she left but it's just not going to be the same. I love the band's sound. And Kristen will have some tough shoes to fill! :)

You need to put yourself in her situation, she has a family you know and things become more important in life. If flyleaf is one of your favorite bands or favored, then you would support her decision in leaving. I hope for the very best for flyleaf and their future.

I would just like to thank Lacey for the music she gave us with Flyleaf, may her new horizon of raising a family be a blessing to her. Because she's taking a musical hiatus does not mean she won't be back at a later time - and bring new experience to her music with it. As for Kristen May, she is not Lacey, but there is a reason the band sought her out, and after listening to Veda/Vedera's "Trade this Fear" and "Safe" something intangible is telling me the band Flyleaf is going to be okay...

My theory of why she left is because the music industry was not in harmony with her beliefs, as well as to be with her family. I'm sure she's missed much by the fans as well as the band, but it's good to know she's still musically active within her church.

Lacey will be missed a lot, but you guys keep on rocking as in the first two albums!! please don't turn in another of those pop/rock christian band that year after year recycle their music following always the same patterns decided by the market. Especially in first two albums, you had a great tough sound and a great message, keep on that way! and leave the pop music to others. We need band as Demon Hunters and as you to reach the people that don't listen easy listening music... GB!

Flyleaf will not survive without Lacey, at least Amy Lee didn't let her fans down. I will always love Lacey, but I think she will regret leaving. Lacey was not just the body of the band, but the soul :(
