Thank you for the explanation and the review, Chris! I am glad you like it. Knowing that, it gives me more faith that I will enjoy it - and I know more of what to expect now - once I get around to playing my copy! 😃
I have this, with a few expansions, but I haven't got it to the table yet. I fell in love with the aesthetics of the game as it looks amazing?
I store my games horizontally, as gravity intended.
Some of us store our games vertically, as the law of optimizing shelf space dictates. :)
Not to mention how much easier it is to pull any vertically stored game off the shelf compared to having to dig out a game buried under four others.
16:46 Chris, I was wondering how you feel it would play as a 3-player game? Thanks.
I chose to not get this in the pledge manager for Unconscious Mind since it seemed like it wouldn't hit the table as much as that game. I have to admit though, the FOMO still hits at times... this looks fun!
I dont know. Im having hard time getting my ks version to the table. Im selling mine, and waiting for the unconscious mind + playmat if that makes the tableing faster and easier with fewer gray hairs
I call this an action selection, hand managment game with a focus on area control. Never worker placer deck builder hybrid... never!
You should check the updated rulebook and the variants, link on the KS page. Was a game-changer for us! Also Rivers and Rafts was huge for us. Imo it should have been part of the base game.
I tried and I was not sold ... it felt like playing 5 different mini-games except all with the same Paleo theme... and then scoring it all together ...
Any experience with this solo? The PM for Unconscious Mind was extended and Endless Winter is available as an add-on. I've had my eye on it but have been trying to talk myself out of both games. I primarily play solo anymore and usually only play 2-3 or 5 when I play with others. From your player count section, which I may have missed solo comments because I was watching the video while working, you seem to indicate that it is best at 5, which might be enough to talk me out of it. I do appreciate your coverage as always!
I have loved this game at 3 players a lot. That is what I would probably say the best player count is. also, the solo mode is pretty easy to run and is slightly challenging! I would definitely recommend.
Yeah no experience with it solo unfortunately, but I did like it a lot more at that higher count rather than the head to head. I think the jack of all trades feeling is pretty key, and that's probably why I liked with more people because it felt like the game expanded
Worker placement just feels WAYYY overdone now. I don't feel like this makes me too excited over older solid titles that are in my collection already. But it's great to see this much quality.
Did you watch the review? Chris thinks of the worker placement in this game more as an action selection mechanism (and the deckbuilding more as card management).
Got the All-in Kickstarter but sold it after about 6 plays. Just didn’t click with me and is probably my biggest Kickstarter disappointment (especially as the production value is sooooo good)
It's interesting that you said that hunting may be overpowered.... cause I have had the opposite experience. I have thought it has been a better side gig for food to fuel the rest of my game. What is your avg score when going all in with animals?
I had the same experience. In a four player game, we all barely went hunting because it just didn't seem worth it.
I think my scores ranged from 130-140ish
@@RoomandBoardReviews that's right around what a I'm scoring with basically ignoring.... I totally thought hunting was a little weak. Crazy you had the exact opposite experience
@@Agrios211 definitely cool, feels like it all balances out which is always nice in these jack of all trades situations :)
I like how you seem to mention Rising Sun every other video which has nothing at all to do with Rising Sun. 😂 It's one of my TOP 3 games too.
Endless Winter felt to me okayish. Only played it once and will give it another try after watching this video. To me the little bit of everything was more a Jack of all trades, master of none. But just in order quote myself: I "will give it another try. " 😉
Product value is good, I like “mishmash” games but I was disappointed in this game because all the different mechanics where too shallow and not diep enough. Rather less mechanics and more focus on the core mechanics and I love games like civilization and 4x games, these are games with lot of different mechanics but done well. Sold my Kickstarter version, going too try Dune imperium look more up my ally.
I have to agree that there are so many of these games that are just too busy with the mechanics salad. It doesn't excite me when it tries to do so much but ineffectively.
While I liked the game and LOVE the artwork, the game doesn’t feel as smooth to me as say, Arnak.
I have decided to pass on this in favor of Unconscious Mind given that theme speaks to me more, and I only have so much space.😂
I think unconscious mind definitely looks cool, I'm sure it'll be a quality game
