I used to work in a factory that made restaurant equipment. We sold alot of Richlite cutting boards. I still have one. I figured back then it was a matter of time before someone made these.

I find it kind of ugly. The ebony color suits better. They exagerated and doesn't look like rosewood at all.

      Totally agree.

@@brianjones7521 Well, you know... this opinion thing... 2 years later and I kinda dislike it less. I think a purple heart version would look really nice though.

In terms of sustainability this is great, even in terms of sound it's definitely viable. But I'd personally prefer to just find an alternative wood like Pear, black locust which we don't use and the latter of which we have too much of in Europe anyway

i tried some kind of artificial fretboard material made from pressed birch..Acorra or some name like that..it was so hard that when i pressed the frets in it caused the neck to bow..i havent noticed this on other guitars. I suppose that the fret slots could be a bit wider, but i dont know how i could adjust the thickness of the saw without compromising its functionality..

Would love to see an image of it side by side with rosewood just to see how it looks.

Why not make a guitar that's 100% Richlite? Richlite back and sides, Richlite tops, Richlite necks, Richlite bodies. I'd love to see that.

Because a guitar needs to vibrate a little - even solidbody guitars vibrate.

Your sound plate and back are curved differently for maximum vibration and the difference between a hardwood (back) and soft wood (front) needs to be proportional in order to get the most sound out of the guitar, if you're talking about acoustic. Hard woods vibrate more because the deflect sound vibrations well, while softer woods absorb them. If both are the same, you either lose vibration resulting in a deadened sound, or get too much resulting in high reverb and crackling.
Hope this help answer your question.

that is WHY we will never buy this - first fretboards - now bridges - obviously it will spread to sides & backs (where vibration not major issue) - forget it!

Rosedale doesn't look like Rosewood. How about a deep purple color for purpleheart wood.

    • @chrispile3878

Yes - Richlite made a Strat from Richlite. Very heavy, sustain for days.

Why the heck would they share that with you? They're a business and most likely have proprietary processes.

I feel sad for the younger kids in the future. I have had the privilege of playing some of the finest ebony boards in my lifetime. I'll pass all my guitars to my kids so the don't have to touch this crap.

I have several clients who own high end Gibsons with Richlite boards. They didn't even know it wasn't ebony until I mentioned it to them. Best thing about Richlite, is you don't have to worry about fret sprout because Richlite doesn't shrink when the humidity and barometric pressure changes.
