Stumbled on this video and of course saw Kim and of course wanted to check it out. This horrified me, except of course watching Kim perform. My first thought was it was a totally adlibbed performance to check the sound. Of maybe non of these people had actually met before. Then Kim started to scream at me. Singing I suppose. WTH is all this? And why all the people there to see this? They most know something I am missing. So I watched it again. Then again. I started to get it. I could hear how they were bringing it all together. Now I am searching out more Sonic songs. Final analysis, not for me, but excellent!!

Follow how (some of) those bands have evolved from complete "deconstruction of music" to sophisticated innovative sounds, like DNA -> Ambitious Lovers -> Arto Lindsay. Sonic Youth sculpted their noise into more traditional song structures. Try "Shadow Of A Doubt" on their best album Evol. Or Tunic (Song For Karen)
To me art is an expression of one's feelings of life and the world around them. Sometimes those things can be ugly, but that doesn't make the art any less valid.

The funny thing about this band is, when they aren't trying so hard to be "alternative" and just make a song, their songs are brilliant. 80% of it is total trash though sadly. They could have been super stars.

It is NOT just you....one day I was in the local church owned thrift store and though back in the day I had purple hair back when you got spit on for being different in this kind of way, back before all the boomer women went gray, watched a Walgreens commercial nd decided " hey wouldn't we show the world how truly wild and crazy we were and still are and dye our hair colors God gave to flowers and no human on earth". But it was like 25 years after it was wild and crazy any more.... Well now my husband says I dress like a soccer mom ( thanks for that david) and I am a little like Melissa McCarthy, very friendly and sing songy voice, so there I was shopping and I wish I remeber what t-shirt this guy was wearing, some old time punk band, though. I told him I loved them and he was so surprised, his reaction was "you don't LOOK like someone who listens to ( said band)". That is the trick, you look innocent and discountable but you have a rebel, punk and fight the power heart and mind". It is fun to see how it surprises people. Like my nephew who is just 2 years younger than I, he looks like a pirate with a goatee and a beard standing 6 foot 2 inches, wearing t-shirts to Mexico that say " hard to kidnap", he grew up steeped I. Punk also, but wasn't it usually the littlest girls in the most pit that were the fiercest? Oh the band's I've seen and the times we had, lucky to be alive still and not been arrested for some of the shenanigans from back then, we weren't real trouble or crimina, just disenfranchised youth, and it was so much FUN!!!!!
